Useful, yes, as long as you realize the context. I wouldn't cite it as an factual source in a doctoral thesis, but when I'm looking to check what album a particular song is on, or something like that, it's an easy place to look.
The O's traded their minor league player of the year for a 37-year-old backup catcher who's not even going to make the team!?!?!?! Did they hire Steve Phillips while nobody was looking?
In my quest to complete the Mets Topps team sets going back to 1962, I got this Bobby Klaus card along with five other 1966s in the mail today. What's up with Bobby's brother? I'd think "ex-major leaguer" isn't the most interesting thing about... um, him?

Payment's not the issue. Fred Wilpon craps million-dollar bills. I'm more worried about the roster spot, which is basically a hole. I'd much rather have a functioning bat in the spot.
First, who gives a rat's ass when the decision was made? Second, why are we surprised that anyone involved in sports management uses doublespeak? This isn't some great revelation. Some of the most "beloved" figures in sports have never said anything worthwhile.
Finally saw this last night, and agree with all of Edgy's points. We enjoyed it, laughed, but yeah, it did seem contrived. And I don't know that there's any way the little girl deserved any kind of acting award nomination.
FK, you didn't give us a chance to guess... I knew it was Park. Fernando Tatis' career falling off the table = roids? You hate to just assume that, but... I don't know that Sele issued it as an ultimatum, per se; he's just saying he feels like he's reached a level where he shouldn't have to linger in AAA. No big whoop. Seeya, Aaron.
No, having Don Mattingly killed will get him to the top of that list. I liked the Marlins last year. Everyone said they would lose 100 games, but I thought they were too young and hungry for that. I really don't see that with the Nats this year, though. They might just be awful.
11. It will cause more caps to be sold -- "I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to trade in their crappy old blue Mets hat for a spankin' new black with a blue brim model," New Era CEO Christopher Koch said. "Who gives a rat's ass about the hat your grandpa bought you when you were in high school with the Sid Fernandez signature under the brim, when you could spend thirty bucks on a nice new cap that sits high on your head and makes you look like a dork?"
