  1. 1. 1962: 11-32 with 3 HR (!!), which gave him far and away the highest OPS+ of any 1962 Met. 1B/OF. 2. 1980-83: 7-32 in 43 games. Spent his entire MLB career with the Mets, but did nothing of any memorable significance that I could find. 3. 1998: 6-32 after a midseason acquisition to help fill a hole created by another midseason acquisition.
  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: is 5 Juaquin Arias? No, it's still Vinny Rottino. But I feel like knowing how many AB Joaquin Arias had as a Met will be of value relatively soon.
  3. Batmags is back! 1. 1964: 3-for-33, 1 2B, 5 K. Third baseman. Acquired from, then traded back to, Philadelphia. WAYNE "NOT MOONLIGHT" GRAHAM 2. 1995: 8-for-33, 3 RBI. Infielder. Got 600 AB in 1998-99 with Tampa Bay. AARON LEDESMA 3. 1999-2000: 9-for-33, 4 RBI. Key part of the 1999 team, but not so much in 2000. PAT MAHOMES 4. 2006: 6-for-33, 2 HR, 5 RBI. Played six positions. ELI MARRERO 5. 2012: 6-for-33, 2 HR, 5 RBI. Played three positions and I have zero memory of him ever wearing a Mets uniform. Still bopping around the minor leagues, although he hasn't seen MLB action since 2012 with Cleveland after leaving the Mets. 4. I'd buy an Italia PIAZZA 31 shirt. Wanted to buy a USA JANKOWSKI 6 shirt when he was on the team a few years back but they never made custom shirts available.
  5. Also funny that of the five guys with 33 AB, the one with the most hits was a pitcher.
  6. Greg BUSTS OUT THE WHOOPING STICK and retakes the lead. The "key part" on the Mahomes clue was my nod that it was a pitcher. (Nobody else has 33 AB in a "key part" role, methinks.) 1. 1964: 3-for-33, 1 2B, 5 K. Third baseman. Acquired from, then traded back to, Philadelphia. 2. 1995: 8-for-33, 3 RBI. Infielder. Oh, I wouldn't buy his shirt. Later Only because we went to the same high school and lived in the same neighborhood.
  9. DAMMIT THESE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HARD. Hell, I even screwed up part of a question and you still got it right. 1. 34 AB as a first baseman in 2004, 4 AB for the Royals in 2007... and that's it. BRAZELL 2. Drafted by the Mets in 1995, but didn't get into a game as a Met until pitching the 7th inning in a blowout win over [crossout]Arizona[/crossout] Florida in April 2008. Got his 34 AB, though, and is still associated with the organization, of sorts. NELLIE 3. Was awful, then a key piece of the staff, then quickly became one of the most despised Mets of all time. Got a single off Roy Halladay in his third major league AB, then went 0-for-31. Still associated with the organization, of sorts. 11. Hey! Just realized I forgot to keep putting photos in here. Oops. Here you go: 1. 34 AB as a first baseman in 2004, 4 AB for the Royals in 2007... and that's it. 2. Drafted by the Mets in 1995, but didn't get into a game as a Met until pitching the 7th inning in a blowout win over Arizona in April 2008. 12. .260/.310/.400 in 372 AB as a fourth OF. Hits a long home run against dangerously overeducated Marlins starter on opening weekend, but then goes into a two-week slump. Terry stays with him, though.
  13. Ben Grimm gets the clue on the first one, which I hoped would confuse people. Well done, and we get a little movement in the standings. 1. Had 1872 AB in 21 seasons -- 1816 of them before being acquired by the Mets. WARREN SPAHN 2. Outfielder acquired by the Mets from Arizona in June 2008; was gone at the end of the season and never made it back to the majors. TROT NIXON 3. Hit one of the most memorable home runs in Mets history, although he might be best known for something he DIDN'T hit. I do wonder what'll happen when TK out-salaries the Marlins in a few years. (I would have loved a Joe Nathan minor-league contract and ST invite at some point, though, Sandy.)
  15. Greg gets 'em both and we're back at zero. Your updated standings: JCL 10 GFafif 8 Batmags 8 Edgy 7 FK 4 Ben Grimm 3 Hahn 3 Chad 2 SteveJR 1 Lefty 1 DocTee 1 HERE WE GO! Three players with exactly 35 Mets AB, as we ramp up the difficulty for real: 1. Had 1872 AB in 21 seasons -- 1816 of them before being acquired by the Mets. 2. Outfielder acquired by the Mets from Arizona in June 2008; was gone at the end of the season and never made it back to the majors. 3. Hit one of the most memorable home runs in Mets history, although he might be best known for something he DIDN'T hit.
  16. Omar, for what it's worth, was one of the catalysts for the Padres selecting Travis Jankowski in the first round out of Stony Brook -- saw him at a game on campus once -- which means if he was still with the Mets maybe they'd FUCKING DRAFT SOMEONE FROM ONE OF THEIR HOMETOWN UNIVERSITIES NOT THAT I'M BITTER OR ANYTHING
  17. 17-9, 3.14, finishes third in the Cy Young balloting.
  18. I had written "traded for Jimmie Schaffer" in the clue, but figured that'd be quite a giveaway because that information was still in the post from yesterday. Buford is incorrect. 37 AB I got 37 AB in 1991 as a backup middle infielder, then 19 AB for the Padres in '92, and somehow became the starter in '93, playing 140 games. I got 32 AB with the Expos in 1994 but never made it back to the bigs. 36 AB Two players earned exactly 36 AB as Mets. Both spent the bulk of their careers in the upper midwest; one a pitcher with the Tigers from 1954-1964, one an outfielder with the Cubs from 1993-1995. The pitcher FRANK LARY came to the Mets in May 1964, then was traded to the Milwaukee during the season, then purchased back in the offseason, then traded AGAIN, this time to the White Sox, in 1965, in exchange for another guy who didn't get very many Mets AB. The outfielder batted cleanup in a late April game in Pittsburgh and hit a game-winning 3-run HR in the top of the ninth. 19. It IS Jeff D'Amico! 1. I came to the Mets in the summer of '65 in exchange for Frank Lary, caught in 21 games and was terrible, and then was traded that offseason for Dick Stuart. JIMMIE SCHAFFER 2. I got 37 AB in 1991 as a backup middle infielder, then 19 AB for the Padres in '92, and somehow became the starter in '93, playing 140 games. I got 32 AB with the Expos in 1994 but never made it back to the bigs. 3. Went 4-10, 4.55 as a Met in 1994. Best remembered as a Brave. PETE SMITH 4. Went 6-10, 4.94 as a Met in 2002. Best remembered as a Brewer. JEFF D'AMICO 5. Got 37 AB as a Rule V pick in 2011 but was gone by April 17. BRAD EMAUS JCL 9 GFafif 6 Batmags 8 Edgy 7 FK 4 Ben Grimm 3 Hahn 3 Chad 2 SteveJR 1 Lefty 1 DocTee 1 BUT OH MY GOODNESS WE'VE SPILLED INTO A SECOND DAY. Two players earned exactly 36 AB as Mets. 20. BING BING BING! Five players with 37 Mets ABs for your consideration: 1. 22. DAMMIT. 1. Lost seventeen games as a swingman in 1962, and never really made much major league impact after that. CRAIG ANDERSON 2. I came to the Mets in a trade that brought a key piece of a World Series championship team, then started 19 games the following season, then was traded and only pitched one more season. 3. I was a way more effective reliever than most Mets fans will admit, saving 33 games in parts of six seasons. JCL 9 GFafif 6 Batmags 6 Edgy 5 FK 4 Ben Grimm 2 Hahn 2 Chad 2 SteveJR 1 Lefty 1 DocTee 1

  25. Only one Met totaled exactly 39 AB: a backup outfielder in 1990 who was acquired from the Yankees.
