15-9 in 33 starts, 3.88 ERA. Gets beat up a little bit in the summer, but muscles through it.

Goes 2-for-21 in a June callup when Wilmer goes on the DL, then gets DFA'ed and signs with Cleveland.

Will pitch some, probably for a minor league affiliate of some kind. Strike out a few guys, look good doing it. Will be invited to Spring Training 2018.

One right answer and a bunch of nopes. From yesterday: 1. 1962-65: appeared in 47 games, all with the Mets, in his MLB career. Went 1-22 at the plate. BONUS HINT: Was the first reliever in Mets history. From today: 1. 1964-66: Drafted from the Phillies, he pitched his way back and forth from AAA for three years, and went 5-for-21 at the plate. His brother had a much more successful career. 2. 1993-95: Raced through the minor leagues until his 1993 debut; 3-for-21 in 37 games, then spent parts of three seasons in Oakland. Currently an assistant principal in Minisink Valley. 3. 2002-03: 2-for-21 and is best known for giving up a big home run as a member of another organization. MIKE BASCIK 4. 2009-11: 1-for-21 at the plate after coming over midway through 2009. Has bounced around the minors as a starter in AAA, but hasn't made it back yet. As long as we start no earlier than 9, I can do just about any night that week.

Well done! Today's coming soon. 1. 1962-65: appeared in 47 games, all with the Mets, in his MLB career. Went 1-22 at the plate. 2. 1962: Was the 32nd pick in the expansion draft; went 3-22 and got traded in April. BG SMITH 3. 1962-63: The second best Mets pitcher to come out of Yale. Went 1-22 at the plate. MacKENZIE 4. 1967: 0-for-22. (See #10.) SANDY ALOMAR 5. 1975-77: Born in Fresno, but was no Seaver, either on the mound or at the plate, despite 6 hits in 22 AB. No relation to #6. RICK BALDWIN 6. 1975-76: 6-22 as a backup outfielder. No relation to #5. BILLY BALDWIN 7. 1978: 5-22 after coming over as a PTBNL in a huge trade; traded away in May. KEN HENDERSON 8. 1979: 0-22 with 17 strikeouts, 4-5, 3.70 on the mound. Mostly remembered as an Angel. ANDY HASSLER 9. 1981: 4-22. Goes both ways. (NTTAWWT.) GREG HARRIS 10. 2007: 3-for-22. (See #4.) OTHER SANDY ALOMAR 11. 2013: 3-22, and probably BETTER at the plate than he was on the mound. What a disaster. SHAUN MARCUM 12. 2013-15: 2-22 over 165 games with the Mets. Yep. Maybe they'll get easier! You never know. 1. 1971: Born in Flushing, started his career going 2-23 in Flushing, then famously San Francisco. CHARLIE "YOU TRADED ME FOR WHO?" WILLIAMS 2. 1994-95: Started his career going 1-23 (and 4-7 on the mound) in Flushing, then less famously traded to Kansas City. JACOME 3. 2003: 4-23 as a Met, then got 48 AB in Oakland in 2005 and 30 AB in Oakland in 2010. MATT "WHO" WATSON 4. 2013-14: 5-23 at the plate after being MVP of the first two WBCs. AHA! Put the questions up while Greg's asleep. That's my new plan. 1. 1971: Born in Flushing, started his career going 2-23 in Flushing, then famously San Francisco. CHARLIE "YOU TRADED ME FOR WHO?" You're letting him run away with this, aren't you. 8. 2005: Drafted by the Mets in 1990, but didn't make it up to Shea until 2005, where he went 3-25 with a home run, mostly as a pinch-hitter. Apologies for the typo. Fixed: 8. 2005: Drafted by the Mets in 1990, but didn't make it up to Shea until 2005, where he went 3-25 with a home run, mostly as a pinch-hitter. Heckuva job cleaning up today's, though: 1. 1964: 4-24 at the plate, 3-5, 3.61 in 61 games on the mound. Somehow made into three Topps cards. Holds what appears to be an interesting baseball record. (I can't find confirmation.) BILL WAKEFIELD 2. 1974-75: 4-24 as a Met, almost entirely as a pinch-hitter. Singled in the bottom of the 25th. BROCK PEMBERTON 3. 1977-80: 2-24 as a Met. Best known for something pictured on his baseball card. JOHN PACELLA 4. 1980: 5-24 as a backup infielder, then spent the rest of his career in San Diego. MARIO RAMIREZ 5. 1982-83: 4-24, then got traded. OWNBEY 6. 1986: 5-24, then got traded. JEFFERSON 7. 1995-96: 5-24, then got traded. PERSON 8. 1999: 3-24, then got traded. Holds an interesting baseball record. OCTAVIO DOTEL 9. 2003: 3-24 despite lighting up AAA. Never made it back to the bigs. Pretty sure you just made him up. Doesn't appear in a game at any level in 2017.

Greg comes strong on a Thursday! Still one point on the board. 1. 1964-65: 2-12 on the mound, 1-25 at the plate. Was the "other guy" on a notable Mets rookie card. TOM PARSONS 2. 1970-71: 5-25, then part of a big trade. Was the "other guy" on a notable Mets rookie card. LEROY STANTON 3. 1973: 3-23 in between stints in Houston. Acquired when the Mets traded away a key piece of their 1969 team. RICH CHILES 4. 1980: 3-25 for this catcher and former 1st round pick who only got 99 AB in part of four seasons between 1978-1985. BUTCH BENTON 5. 1997-98: Only 3-25 with a home run despite being Joe McEwing before Joe McEwing was Joe McEwing. SHAWN GILBERT 6. 1999: 3-25 at the plate. Walked a guy once. THAT FUCKIN' GUY 7. 2005: 5-25 at the plate in 19 games, and then at the end of the season said "fuck this shit, I'm going home." Benjamin Grimm wrote: I didn't look at any names, just did a count. I'm enjoying these Countdown Quizzes, but here's a word to the wise that I've learned from doing Schaefer and dictated my approach for Tabloid Cover Derby: It's best to do the vast bulk of the preparation in advance. That way, when the "event" is playing out keeping it up doesn't become a burden. If you're going to post 32 questions on March 31 don't wait until March 30 to get them assembled! That's sort of what I've been doing. I open up a txt file and then when I have a few minutes during the day, I run through the upcoming players and get them ready to go. Then it's just cut-and-paste into the thread.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'm curious to see what you do when we get down to lower numbers, like 3. Will you still go by number of at bats, or will you switch to a different statistic? There are 32 Mets who finished with exactly 3 at bats. You know, I hadn't really thought that far in advance when I started this, but about a week ago, I looked further down the list... and we're going for it, all the way. The challenge is finding time to type out clues for all those players. ALSO STOP CHEATING, BEN

I'm bothered that they gave a 29yo with no real experience a "shot," but in all honesty, he hasn't embarrassed himself, and if he can offer something to the organization, then whatever. It sells shirts, I guess. If he hits enough to get a shot, then they'll give him a shot.

Four players, FOUR DIFFERENT POINT SCORERS. Now we're talking. 1. A serviceable swingman for the 1980 Mets, he was 6-26 at the plate before being traded to Toronto. ROY LEE JACKSON 2. Went 2-26 at the plate and had a 6.04 ERA in 1979. Perhaps using some... substances... would have helped. DOCK ELLIS 3. Appeared in 67 games in 2007-08, went 5-26 at the plate, and somehow has zero real memories on UltimateMets. JORGE SOSA, APPARENTLY? 4. 1-26. His one hit came in a blowout win over the Phillies in April 2016. LOGAN VERRETT GFafif 22 JCL 15 Batmags 13 Edgy 10 Ben Grimm 8 FK 4 Hahn 3 Chad 2 DocTee 2 SteveJR 2 Lefty 1 NINE points available tomorrow. NINE. If Lunch picks up his game, WE COULD HAVE A NEW LEADER BY THE END OF THE DAY.
