    The Cubs buried the Cards, 12-3, in a game earlier today. Philly beating the Rockies 1-0 in the 4th.

    Actually, it was pretty decent, maybe a little underdone, but I'll fix that next time. I'm glad I was just cooking from a package from my freezer and not from scratch - I probably would have burned it!

    During tonight's game I'm gonna enjoy a meal I cooked myself - pasta with chicken and broccoli in a garlic and oil sauce from Bertolli. First time I've ever cooked on my stove. Let's go Mets!!!

    Huh. I thought Ambres was like 24. Turns out he's almost 28. Oh well. I just would like to see more power out of our corner outfield spots, and Ambres put up power numbers in the minors. The search continues, I guess.

    We could look down to the minors for some help in these areas. If Delgado gets hobbled, I honestly would like to give Andy Tracy a bit of a look as a backup. He's 34, but he put up good numbers this year at New Orleans. Or we could look at Brett Harper, who tore the cover off the ball for the B-Mets. I also like Chip Ambres as a better long-term option in the outfield over Carlos Gomez. We'll figure out what we're doing at second base, but finding another catcher is going to be a huge challenge.

    Jorge Velandia, who hasn't seen major league action since 2003 when he was with the Mets, was purchased from the minors yesterday by Tampa Bay.

    I am not at ALL comfortable with Gomez. Milledge is getting there, but Gomez might be ready to start in 2009, if at all. I'd keep Alou around, and I like Green, but keeping Green is not a must. However, if we let Green go, we need to bring in an older, more proven bat for a year, similar to what Reggie Sanders was doing a few years back, bouncing around the league while hitting 20 homers every year.

    Boston beat Baltimore, 3-2. Josh Beckett got his 18th win of the season. Chad Bradford was the losing pitcher for the Orioles.

    Pittsburgh beat the Cubs, 10-5. This means the Brewers have a one-game lead in the NL Central, and the Astros fall to last place in the NL Central. Also, Tampa Bay beat Toronto, 3-2.
