For all of the reality of what Matthews isn't, or won't be, the reality is that Stokes has a career ERA/WHIP of 5.02/1.62 and spent much of 2009 serving up pin-straight fastballs to any hitter willing to tee the ball up. I'm fine with this -- another bat/glove in the OF in Beltran's absence, and a replaceable arm in Stokes.

SI.com and Ken Rosenthal reporting Joel Piniero to Anaheim, 2 yrs 16 million. If that's the case I will assume that he's just a Dave Duncan scrap-heaper who will suck outside of St. Louis this year (see Weaver, Jeff). But shit, the Mets are running out of choices now. Sheets maybe?

The best thing about 2009 so far is that it weeds out the weak kneed pansies like this. You can't take it? There's a big bandwagon one borough over, hop on board and leave the real Mets fans alone.

Time to hit the ol' bargain bin, get someone who will play for peanuts (and then guarantee them 2-3 mil, Cora-style, as the Mets always stupidly do). A stopgap that they can cut or keep around. Winn Ankiel Baldelli Or let Pagan play, he's an April all star. Or even give F-Mart another extended look. It seems much more likely now that the Mets bring Delgado back to hope to regain some power numbers in Moletran's absence.
