  1. Gets traded for middle relief, which you can never have enough of. Or so I'm told.
  2. Which is more important -- that Matt Harvey is feeling good, or that I feel rotten? My family is unanimous for the former.
  3. Does this mean we'll get KellyAnne Conway urging everyone to go to Marlins games?
  4. Mole's rules of New York fandom. You can root for the Giants and the Jets. Joe Namath made it OK. You can root for the Rangers and the Islanders, but you'd probably better not admit it. (Who are the Devils?) You can root for the Knicks and the Nets, I suppose, but who would want to? You can not, ever, root for the Mets and the Yankees. Ever.
  5. I would sign anyone named Yoelkis.
  6. You brought me back.
  7. Brooklyn Dodger fan, lost until the Mets arrived. I was living in the midwest at the time (Iowa City), but immediately loved the Mets.
  8. How can you hit for a lofty average without having plate discipline?
  9. It's a truism that you can never have too much pitching. Why isn't it a truism that you can never have too much hitting?
  10. He talked about that. He said he 'Pearl-Harbored' King to get the quote. Went to his house with the book and badgered him to read it and give him a quote. Do you suppose that would work? I need to get some blurbs for my book. Doesn't have to be Stephen King..
  11. Where does Lagares stand?
  12. Is this something everyone knew except me? You can get the Mets live streaming video on Reddit.
  13. My first...and maybe only game of the season. Tuesday, Nationals.
  14. Almost "Eureka!" I poked my daughter in the armed said, "My God, I just realized what it means!"
  15. In New Orleans to attend my granddaughter's graduation from Tulane (summa cum laude!). The commencement ceremonies began with representatives of the different colleges entering the Superdome bearing gonfalons. And you may wonder what this has to do with baseball, but I'm getting to it. The only context in which I had ever head that word was the classic bit of doggerel that, want to or not, I have by heart in my consciousness: These are the saddest of possible words, Tinker to Evers to Chance. Trio of Bear Cubs and fleeter than birds, Tinker to Evers to Chance. Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble, Turning a Giant hit into a double, Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble, Tinker to Evers to Chance. And I had always assumed "gonfalon" was some sort of weird adjective, but in the middle,of the ceremony it hit me -- he means that the dream of seeing a pennant flying over the Polo Grounds has been cruelly punctured.
  16. Not much good news from Cincinnati-- Not much with pitchee, less with battee. At catcher, Devin Masoraco-- Let's face it, just another jocko. Last season was a year from hell, One part Mendoza, three DL. Not one of Cincinnati's threats, An easy call: advantage, Mets. At first base we have Joey Votto, You only face him if you've got to. More dangerous than Walking Deads, Though Duda's hot, advantage Reds. At second, Phillips likes to hack, He could fall flat, he could bounce back. The Reds are ready to abandon -- I'll take Neil Walker over Brandon. At shortstop, Zachary Warren Cozart, And with the bat, he ain't no Mozart. Can't hit for average or for power, They're better when he's in the shower. And though his fielding's far from porous, I'll go with Asdrubal or Flores. At third, Eugenio Suarez? Maybe he ain't, maybe he is. At any rate, one thing I knows is, I'll take the guy with spine stenosis. And in the outfield, there's Jay Bruce: The Reds would like to cut him loose. Not much to say about Duvall, Without him, there'd just be a wall. Some still like Billy Hamilton, But stick a fork in him, he's done. Their whole outfield could use a fork. Advantage, point, set, match: New York. Iglesias, Finnegan, Moscot – Their starting pitching ain’t so hot. They couldn't outhit Trappist Monks. They're like a bunch of subway punks, And we come on like Bernie Goetz-- We'll mow them down. Advantage, Mets.
  17. Brandon Nimmo is a much cooler name than Dave Schneck.
  18. As Bob Murphy used to say, "When they start hitting...and they will..."
  19. Does Henderson wear 51 to remind himself of where he doesn't want to be pitching this year?
  20. This iw why, during the McCarthy era, they changed their name to the Redlegs. I got 'em.
  21. 95-67, first place, all the way to World Champs.
  22. I'll take one.You choose.
  23. Probably not Herrera to mostly sit on the bench, although it's an intriguing idea.
  24. Are they giving deGrom a baby bonus to go along with his non-contract?
  25. Will not make the team this year. Isn't Eric Campbell ahead of him on the outfield depth chart? If deAza is traded, it will be for another backup outfielder, because no one will give prospects for him. And then Nimmo will be healthy.
