1. The Boys of Summer didn't like each other all that much. I don't believe there was a real buddy factor on our beloved '86 Mets. The great Oakland A's teams hated each other. But my my favorite was the much-heralded Los Angeles Dodger (the words still stick in my craw) infield of Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey, together for a record-breaking eight years. When they were finally broken up (Lopes traded), scribes asking for sentimental comments from the four were sadly disappointed. The comments were more along the lines of "we never liked each other all that much." But that doesn't exactly discount "clubhouse chemistry" as important. You can not like someone and still work well with him.
2. Konerko -- he fits a key position need. I'm not ready to write in Jacobs.
3. "Edgardo's" is all you need to say, and the 6-month wait for a table proves it, as the fashion model-turned-sous chef finally opens his own place. Gimme a Met who hybridized a new kind of brussels sprout.
4. Looks good. I'll check it out too.
5. An odd assortment:Lovely, sad, inspiring, the story of a beautiful young Cuban girl who becomes a cleaning woman in New York and grows old.Watching Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead on cable the other night -- I saw the play on Broadway in its original run, thought it was one of the best things I'd ever seen in the theater. But Stoppard was just warming up. He's grown so much as an artist since then.Assigned reading for my blues class...a really significant piece of scholarly advocacy.Decided to try reading an online text, and went with this one, from the Alex catalog. Just started it...enjoying the old-fashioned storytelling.
6. Gimme a Met who Bob Dylan opened for at Gerdes Folk City.
7. Opinion: He was hoping rigor mortis had set in -- it would be the only stiff thing he could send. Fact: Wes Westrum had no "take" sign. "Take" was the default; his players needed a sign to hit.
8. I don't see us having a better 2B than Matsui.

Great line from Minky.
13. I liked McCarver a lot as a Met announcer, don't think about him much any more.
14. I don't think it's insulting at all. People like to make lists, and this is just another one. And it's possible for ethnic pride to be a healthy thing.
15. Is that the St. Johns - NY Mets Terry Bross?
