  1. Where does this Lastings Milledge journal come from?
  2. Paciorek did a good job for the Mets.
  3. I like a lineup with Beltran batting second.
  4. Hey, guys, Peterson is a controversial figure in Metland, and of course people are going to see him differently. Come on, guys, it's all fun...we just find our fun in different ways. I'd hate to be the only Mets Fan since 62 left around here, MF, so hang in there. And Edgy, I do appreciate all the heavy lifting you do around here.
  5. 62 is right about the nature of the gesture, which the statue gets about right. Yeah, I wish it were a better statue. But I'm still glad it's gonna be there. That's the main thing.
  6. Listening to Bud Selig on Commonwealth Club on NPR. I know how awful Selig is -- and he proved it in the Q&A session -- but his speech was wonderful. How can this be? Because it was about baseball, and pretty much everything about baseball is wonderful.
  7. It's OK if it looks hokey. It's history, not art. A great moment in baseball history and American history, and I'm glad it's being commemorated.
  8. And after all that, I find myself rooting inexplicably for the Angels. Maybe because they have more Molinas behind the plate than any other team.
  9. There was another whole series of Piel's commercials featuring less NFS. Here's the only one I remember. The sergeant said to the young draftee "If you wanna be smart you'll talk like me" OK, OK, whaddidhe say? "Less NFS in Piel's light beer." But the great Piel's commercials were the inimitable Bob and Ray as Bert and Harry.
  10. Robert Alda, the original Sky Masterson -- so a New York icon, himself.
  11. I picked 62, just out of perversity.
  12. I didn't say "one should," I just said that I did, in the absence of any other rooting interest. If you want a "one should," one should always root against the designated hitter.
  13. Piel's is the beer for me boys, dry as beer can be Piel's is the beer that you'll enjoy, refreshing you'll agree Piel's beer has less NFS, that's why it's dry you see Less NFS less non-fermented sugar, yessiree That's why Piel's is the beer for me. Certainly one of the worst jingles, and advertising slogans, ever dreamed up.
  14. I was sure I remembered Piel's as the NY Giant sponsor, but other sources confirm Knickerbocker. Piel's did, however, have less NFS.
  15. Cardinals, for the same reason as the White Sox.
  16. Sox. Absent a strong rooting interest, I go for the original 16 teams.
  17. "It's a White Owl Wallop!" The Giants were Piel's, as I remember.
  18. But Camel is not the tobacco product they're most identified with,
  19. Name the beer and tobacco sponsors for the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees.
  20. Torre fired?
  21. We could have an entire bench of guys named Castro. Is Raul available? Or Bernadette? Who is the first to conquer space? It's incontrovertible That the first to conquer living space Is Castro convertible Who conquers space with fine design? Who saves you money all the time? Who's tops in the convertible line? Castro convertible!
  22. Why do people become sportswriters if they don't like sports?
  23. That's why they have the Cy Young.
  24. How about the kid? I'm happy for Annie. And for those Houston fans who stayed there for 19 innings, rooting.
  25. And look at the stands. No one's left the park.
