1. Bradford's is a very roidy ballot. Also, I think the first seven of his 10 spent key parts of their careers in that Yankee/Red Sox rivalry. I think Gar's favorite players to do are David Ortíz and Pete Rose.
2. I question how one pair of seniors — who should be under lockdown and certainly not flying — getting to drop in on their son and daughter-in-law can "save the holidays." That's arrogant!
3. Come on Edgy, use the guy's real name: https://twitter.com/Jacob_Resnick/status/1471143161951145989 That's some DaVinci Code shit right there.
4. I'm picking a lot of loozas this round. Is it a matter of perspective or are those models 25 feet tall?
5. Then suddenly last summer ... He came to the Mets from The University of South Florida, which also gave the Mets pitching coach Dave Eiland and (I think) author and chronicler Greg W. Prince. I'd love to make a statement here about The University of South Florida being in Tampa, which is actually more like Central Florida, but graduates of Manhattan College in The Bronx, no matter how pedantic, are prohibited from making such observations.

Meet Arlison "I Know This World Is Killing You" Rodriguez, a thick (220) lefthander out of The Netherlands Antilles. Joining the organization along with him is a fellow Curaçaoan, the much slighter (6'1" 157) outfielder Jaycey "Won't You Smile at Me?" Benita. Should either of them make it to the big squad, they will almost certainly displace 1998 infield sub Ralph Milliard (10 games but only one plate appearance) as the organization's all-time Netherlands Antillean. Go, kids, go!!
7. I have to say, the period mostly in May, but dipping into April and June, was really the defining part of this season. The Mets were fielding supremely punchless lineups — their most productive hitters were their two catchers and for a time they were in the lineup together, with James McCann staffing first base for the first time in his career. Night after night, they were tallying three to five hits, and it seemed to take an extraordinary effort just to pull that off. Yet they were hanging on to first, treading water, even winning games on the road, with outstanding starting pitching on most nights, and superlative defensive commitments. Fargas and Khalil Lee and even Cameron Maybin were producing absolutely zero with the bats, but desperately trying to justify their existence with their gloves and arms. And if they could manage to get to the ninth with one run on three hits, there was a good chance that was good enough to find themselves tied against a stacked Atlanta lineup, with a chance to steal the game at the end, with backup infielders like Guillorme or Peraza the ones they were counting on for a big hit. It's hard to think of less sustainable model, but it was a fascinating show for a few weeks in late spring and early summer.
8. Puig is also coming off a string of stateside sexual assault accusations, at least two of which were buried until quite recently.
9. Hemond ran the Sox from 1970 to 1985, and the Orioles from 1988 to 1995. He was a man who liked an extra helping of Harold Baines.
10. Two Seinfeld guest actors on the payroll would probably be a league-leading figure.
11. They don't, but MRC expects him to open in Binghamton in 2022, which suggests a 2023 arrival date to be reasonable.
12. CBS Sports is under the impression that Francisco Alvarez is Major League Baseball's seventh-best prospect. Their top prospect — Baltimore's Adley Rutschman — is also a catcher, but Alvey is three and a half years younger than Adley.
13. NOW we're talkin'.

15. Also a tough break for Team McClendon.
16. =roger_that post_id=82848 time=1639297983 user_id=128]I guess the tradition was started by Stengel, but the Mets seem to have a proclivity for hiring ex-Yankee hacks as their manager.

18. Yeah, for my part, that's a decision I made long ago. Jim's definitely on my Funny Guys Who Aren't Funny list.
19. Bizarre first episode of The Jerry Lewis Show from 1963. It sort of predicts Letterman in that the show itself subverts the whole form, but nothing's really going right, or the audience isn't getting the idea that the sloppiness is part of the gimmick. Beyond that, it's like 88% padding. It's like the Letterman show was hosted by Andy Kaufman, and he didn't hire any writers, and made the whole premise of the show to see how long he can bullshit his way around not doing his homework before he gets wrestled off the stage. Around 10:50 in, Jerry calls for the sponsor's product (L&M cigarettes) to be tossed to him, and he misses the catch badly. He bends over to pick them up and says, "I should play with the Mets." 22. He's got a 3,000-game track record to go a long way toward answering those questions.

It's not my name and it's not funny. I spent six years in the Dodger system before becoming a minor league free agent. Most of it was at the Rookie level, but what are you gonna do. It'll sure be hard to make the big squad before becoming a free agent again, so this may be the last you hear of me. My career highlight was winning the Under-23 World Cup with Venezuela. You may not be impressed by that, but it sure beats being Jason.
24. I like that Lenny thinks the problem with Mickey was that he was "fuckin' milk-and-drink-cookie-eatin'."
25. Well, somebody might have if the league hadn't been shut down. If this carries on, there may be a few more guys wishing they had taken the won.
