=nymr83 post_id=82591 time=1638792819 user_id=54] I understand taking another look at guys like O'Neill who played in the negro leagues but it is so dumb to spend 15 years on a ballot deciding that Kaat and Oliva are NOT hall of famers just so a a handful of their buddies can show them in now.

It was a little grieving that we'd listen to 21 breakdown takes of a song, and when they finally get to a take where the subtitle reads "This was the take used on the Album Let It Be," they cut the shot after a single verse. If they have the time for Ringo announcing his farts, surely they have enough time for the full final version of "I Me Mine" or "Two of Us." I had always had a disappointment that the rooftop concert featured no George Harrison songs, and John gets the lead and he and Billy Preston get the solos on "Get Back," leaving George's (high-quality) solo on "One After 909" as his only chance to shine in that concert. But the multiple takes in this version of the film really gave me a chance to appreciate the impressive non-solo leads George gets to contribute — sublimated but lovely stuff that really contributes to the essence of the songs.

Fantastique.

But we're only just getting a sense of how to judge a managerial career. Historically, the measure of a manager is two championships. If your team wins two championships, you get in eventually, but that's just too crude for me. We're perfectly capable of looking at two shortstops, one of whom has been on three championship teams and the other who has been on one, comparing them with all the other information from their careers, and coming to the conclusion that the one with one championship grossly outperfomed the one with three. We need to do the same with managers.

The winner in a long series between the Senators and the Mets would be America.

Yeah, I think trying to glean patterns of success out of experienced vs. first-timers is going to be futile.

“He'd have at least four championships (and I might argue one more that Three screwed up) if he didn't let his own ego get in the way. George told him to fire all hiss coaches in '95 because of the loss to the Mariners. He said no. George fired him. George then tried to hire him back the next day but Buck would have none of it.” If this is the worst way you can frame the narrative in order to argue that the guy has an ego problem, I don't know what to say. That's not what an ego problem looks like to me.

When he's not using the lineup card, he can just put it on his head.

Whoah! Another name out of the Hot 100! Good luck, Grandy!

I'm certainly happy to debate the matter in depth. I'll take either side.

I just farted. I just thought I should say something.

I certainly think there has been a lot of questioning about it. As noted, he's been on 35 ballots. And he's certainly received majority support on multiple occasions.

Most managers that have a losing playoff record, if they have a playoff record at all.

Not particularly fond of either but my anti-Newsday sentiments won out, leading me to click LEFT OUT and tying this match at 7-7

Good point.

Worth noting that Wills would be the only one alive to enjoy enshrinement. Probably shouldn't be a factor, but it's probably likely to be a factor.

While work stoppages don't necessarily mean a transactions freeze, when it's a lockout and not a strike, it's easy enough for management to make the rules, and a transaction freeze is what we get. (Fun Fact: During the 1994-1995 strike, while there was an unofficial freeze in place, the Mets still traded Vince Coleman, because sometimes you have to put God first.) Anywutz, I think there's probably going to be minor league transactions — free agent contracts, and maybe trades. And I'm guessing if talks progress, MLB might see fit to lift the freeze even before agreement is reached, so they don't have a big chunk of players going to spring training without a team. Either way, you should have taken the Q.O., Michael Conforto.

Nothing says that you're not interested in really getting the story like using SOMEBODY in the headline. I realize the angle is to tweak the LOLMETS for prior stories about guys they didn't successfully recruit, but there's a story here too if you're willing to tell it. If the first job of reporters is to get the five W's (I'm making that up, but still), and WHO is the first of those, leading with SOMEONE is unfair to everybody.

I'm not particularly comfortable with outfielders in 19. It feels like a guy that's not long for the roster, like Cory Sullivan or Shawn Hare, or two-timers whose second go-around is ill-advised, like Roger Cedeño or Jay Bruce. Anthony Young is my all-time 19, and I like to see it on rotation grinders and swing men like himself.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Anthony DiComo and Jim Duquette were talking about Stroman on Mets Hot Stove. Implied that he may have been a bad influence in the clubhouse and said that Scherzer is an upgrade over Stroman. I don't know about the bad influence thing, but Scherzer/Stroman isn't an either/or, so that spin doesn't make any sense at all. Yeah, this is bordering on some racist bullshit right here. Upgrade on the field? Absolutely. But you don't know shit about the clubhouse, Middle Aged White Guys. Sit this one out. They know more about it than I do. I'm certain of that.

End the NBA draft, too!

There certainly seemed to be something mercurial about the guy. Hard to tell if it was an issue. I see where it might be. What a weird offseason. Instead of weeks of drama, we just wake up one morning and a guy has a new uniform.

McNeil already had considerable equity in two different numbers. He's the team's all-time #68, and he was breathing down Backman's neck for the all-time claim to #6. I would think he'd want to put Backman in the rearview mirror before going after Mookie. But that's our Jeff.

Filled out Duda's number nicely. I hope he rejoins the team in five years or so.
