  1. Everybody's too frustrating. That's the game with relief pitching. We don't have emotional reactions to relievers from other teams, so we have a less-than-logical preference for the devil we don't know.

He had been the Brooklyn manager for two seasons, but only one of those was on the field, with the 2020 season canceled. He was hired to manage the Cyclones in the short-season NY-Penn League but stayed with them as they moved up to High-A level in 2021, really taking it on the chin with in 2021 with a 48–70 record. Minor league coordinator is probably a better match for a veteran NCAA manager than minor league manager, but it stinks to lose a minor local legend. The next guy on the manager depth chart is Reid Brignac, whose St. Lucie Mets managed to be the most successful team in the organization in 2021. But the vacancy also provides an opening should you be rooting for a return of major local legend Edgardo Alfonzo.
  3. Does Smoltz have a brother named Mike? https://www.google.com/search?q=%22john+smoltz%27+brother%22&client=firefox-b-1-d&ei=3mXTYb7GKMHWytMP0NyzwAI&ved=0ahUKEwi-raPpvpb1AhVBq3IEHVDuDCgQ4dUDCA0&uact=5&oq=%22john+smoltz%27+brother%22&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAMyBggAEBYQHjoHCAAQRxCwAzoECC4QQzoFCAAQkQI6CgguELEDEIMBEEM6BAgAEEM6CAguELEDEIMBOg4ILhCABBCxAxDHARCjAjoLCC4QgAQQsQMQgwE6BwguELEDEEM6CAguEIAEELEDOgUIABCABEoECEEYAEoECEYYAFCIBVjBLWCpL2gBcAJ4AIABdYgBmw6SAQQxOC40mAEAoAEByAEEwAEB&sclient=gws-wizBoom.
  4. I'm really the only one who went for the first one? The composition is just terrific. Inspired, even. OFF THE WALL! one is cluttered and incoherent with a goofy inset photo of a face few people would recognize. We know nothing about who he is, what he did, or why he's there, and the tease is so confusing as to make me unclear what I'm even looking for. I have little idea what transpired, or even (SCARY NIGHT IN QUEENS) how baseball related it all is. CRUSHING, by contrast, is crushing it.

  6. Here's to a whole bunch more.
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: With our luck, he's Mike Glavine. Luck, shmluck. I welcome him aboard, assuming Soto the Lesser actually gets on board. I, for one, am spongeful with anticipation. Besides, the Mets had both Glavines.
  8. Skip seemed pretty excited when he realized who Sharon was.
  9. For what it's worth, international signing period beings on January 15, so this is a thing, but not really a thing thing, until then.
  10. You be Elian'! Juan Soto's brother is somebody you sign just on principal. It's like that college that gave Wayne Gretzky's son a hockey scholarship even though he wasn't really sure if he liked to skate.
  11. I realize that what I kind of wanted was 162 episodes, and about 12 more bonus episodes tacked on to the blue ray edition.
  12. =Ceetar post_id=83797 time=1640813720 user_id=102] And I tried to be clear that I mean it's a boon.
  13. I don't need constant news cycles of people making up LOLMets narratives for things they weren't even involved in. I really, really, really tried to be clear that this has nothing to do with "need."
  14. My post that started this thread was less than perfectly coherent, with some strangely missing words, so I've touched it up. I'm also kind of using "lockout" and "lockdown" interchangeably, which I probably shouldn't. I don't mean to say that I "need" offseason bullshit. I don't. Back at the MOFo, somebody dubbed me a one-man "Toaster Oven Society" because of my distaste for the Hot Stove Season. I simply meant to suggest that, despite the seeming illusion of a damage-free environment that is provided by a labor war beginning in the offseason, there is an aesthetic and a practical downside to the lockout, and while I yearn for MLB to improve their operating ethics, it's a lesser world with Major League Baseball shut down, even in winter.
  15. And some of the decisions that will occur to get us to opening day could really stink. And the delay of this "churn" certainly puts opening day at risk.
  16. You did great! You missed the Final Jeopardy! question by only 28.6 miles! A straight shot up US 41!
  17. Imaginary Player #2 had $10,300, let's see what he answered ... Where is San Bernadino, California? No! I'm sorry. Perhaps he was guessing that many great players come from Southern Cal. Perhaps Gil lived there in his LA Dodger days, but again, he was from Princeton, Indiana. Let's he bet $4,600 That leaves him with $5,500. IMAGINARY PLAYER #1 IS OUR NEW CHAMP! She goes home with money and prizes and is invited back to compete again tomorrow. The rest of you get the home edition of the game, so you can relive your humiliation on a nightly basis, as well as a one-way ticket to Seawolfenburg! We'll see you tomorrow!
  18. Imaginary Player #1 had $13,100, let's see what she answered ... What is Boise, Idaho? No! I'm sorry. Again, we were looking for Princeton, Indiana. She correctly had an I state, but that won't get her far. Let's see what she wagered. 6,100 That leaves her with $7,000.
  19. OH! I'm sorry! You were in the right neighborhood! We were looking for "What (or Where) is Princeton, Indiana?"! You were, perhaps, thinking of Don Mattingly, which is an ugly thought! We see you've bet $6,000. That takes you down to $3,600.
  20. FINAL JEOPARDY! This US city was the birthplace of future Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Gil Hodges. Please lock in your question while we play a stress-inducing song.
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Please be assured that Frayed Knot will be banned from any future tapings of the show after shouting a potential answer from the audience! No, I merely mentioned which answers had been used on last night's show and only after both had already been spoken aloud here. Judges have made their ruling. C'mon. Scoot. We have another taping.
  22. And feel free to post it here, as your opponents don't actually exist and can't see your post.
  23. We'll assume your overall score was $9,600. Your opponents have $13,100 and $10,300. Our final jeopardy category is US Cities. Please lock in your wagers, while we cut to a commerical.
