  1. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=115437 time=1671816293 user_id=68]One guy on this forum (read this thread) argued for punishment because of how badly his accuser was beat up.
  2. The trade of Pete Crow-Armstrong helps perpetuate Conforto's ongoing status as Met with the Most Famous Mother.
  3. Indeed, I meant to imply that.
  4. Well, if you mentally link all of that to the signing, that takes the Mets 0.29% of the way down the road toward an even return!
  5. Bien punto. Conforto had a heck of a Mets career, but this morning, most of the memories that occur are on the downside — the deep, dark hole he fell into in his sophomore year and the shoulder dislocation following through on a swing. I hope to find my memory in a more generous spirit later in the day.
  6. Good job digging up the ol' thread. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see the Dodgers eat that.
  7. The Mets front office is clearly working on pure cocaine at this point.

This is an amusing kind of Twitter thread if you read it, with appearances by Megill's Mom, back and forth between fans, a few funny remarks and a pretty wild opening video https://twitter.com/24_7Farnsworth/status/1522619666543296514 Wondering what has happened to Kyle Farnsworth's famed protege Kasumba Dennis? Well, he's still grinding toward his dream with some intimidating, if questionable, training methods.
  9. Kinda wishing I came up with a better thread title than I did. Certainly doesn't hold up to the standard around here. But I also kinda like that I came immediately to CPF and posted my immediate reaction. Yeah, you did good. Centerfield to Self: "I could do a Correa/Korea pun, but fuck that noise. I'm thinking Holy @#%$! and I'm going with Holy @#%$!"
  10. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=115330 time=1671675706 user_id=68]So all of a sudden we're now gonna start drawing a line with baseball because now the Mets are owned by a superduper rich fuck who's so rich, he makes other rich people look like paupers?
  11. Made me appreciate Pete Alonso. He had a similar stance and — if you squinted — kind of a similar swing, but very different results. Often seemed kinda banged up, but that couldn't account for what he swung at, which was often sliders low and away. Caught the second-ever Mets no-hitter. I'm concerned that the Mets brass isn't getting enough sleep.
  12. Was a minor star in the star-studded 1975 World Series, hitting in all seven games, but made his mark in Game Six by attempting to score the winning run on short fly to left in the ninth, getting thrown out by George Foster, inadvertantly setting up Carlton Fisk's later heroism. Contributed to Mets history by getting the lone hit in a 1970 one-hitter by Nolan Ryan. If that hit doesn't drop in, clearly the Mets would have kept Ryan and won eight or ten championships with him.

I admittedly know little about this stuff, but San Diego seems to be doing a lot to squash the market size narrative. My narrative is less about market size and more about the allowing the free market to operate. The system as it is set up now has few consequences for failure and a lot of consequences for chasing Cohen around. Along with the increasingly liberal playoff field, the whole deal is set up to incentivize mediocrity and restrict baseball's growth.

  15. Is there anything Papi can't upstage?
  16. Please invite Hal to get behind my campaign to end the anti-trust exemption. Beyond that, I'm not sure what there is to "look at."
  17. Certainly agreed on that.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I mean to say that McNeil has had his position on the team encroached upon several times over now by big-ticket acquisitions. McNeil himself will be a big-ticket acqusition. He's a star -- a two-time all-star and a batting champ with 20+ HR power. He won the batting title, as if that's not impressive enough, playing half his games in a pitcher's park, in the era of baseball in Denver. Of course he will be. So was Jacob deGrom. And yet. They've now come at McNeil several times with excess veteran middle infielders who have pushed him around the diamond to find playing time. Robinson Canó, Javier Báez, and now Carlos Correa. That's a similar message from three different GMs, so I don't know.
  19. It's clear that Mr. Cohen is filthy rich and willing to spend aggressively. I mean to say that McNeil has had his position on the team encroached upon several times over now by big-ticket acquisitions. I'm sure he could afford to keep Jacob deGrom in a healthy lifestyle for many years, but here we are. The finite number of opportunities creates limits that the wallet does not.
  20. McNeil may have a big payday coming up, but I'm not sure it'll be with the Mets.
  21. I was explaining this deal to my wife, how the Mets just dropped a ton of money on a shortstop when they don't need a shortstop. Ms. Edgy: Maybe the idea is to teach him first base. Edgy: First base? Ms. Edgy: It's not that hard. Tell him, Wash. [switches to Ron Washington voice.] It's incredibly difficult.

The 2015 team was especially appealing because so many players had never played for another team: Wright, deGrom, Syndergaard, Harvey, Matz, d'Arnaud, Duda, Murphy, Flores, Tejada, Conforto, Familia, Lagares. That's where I am too. Also worried about the back half of Correa's contract and whatever injury the Giants saw that made him not worth their $$. They badly wanted to spend this offseason. I'm guessing there was no 11th-hour medical issue with the Giants at all, just an 11th-hour Metsical issue.
  23. "Otto's Back" is only available as a bonus track on the special 40th anniversary re-release of The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle.

  25. That'll teach them to try to kick Brandon Crawford to the curb.
