  1. Cody Bellinger has had a flaming-hot July, has hit lefties torridly all season despite being a lefty himself, plays first and center and left, and has a mutual option for next year that he's totally not going to pick up his end of. He's everybody's favorite American-born target to change teams in the next week, including a few teams currently in a worse playoff position than Cody's Cubbies (think Yankees). Most of those teams, of course, will somehow end up with Gary Sanchez. If somebody does acquire him, the Cubs will presumably have to pick up some of his buyout, but maybe not.
  2. O's are having trouble doing anything wrong. They're winning like the Braves, except instead of hitting five homers every night, they're doing everything right.
  3. I went with David Cone in that box. Every time Tampa Bay comes up in this game, I kind of feel sad for all three players in that column.
  4. Two terrific players, and I salute both of their causes and welcome both openly to Cooperstown, but ... is this, like, one of the least legendary classes there has been? I know it's probably not the least, because some years, the BBWAA produced only one inductee, and then the Hall kind of put the screws to the Vets Committee to make sure they selected somebody to round out the ceremony, but that second guy would have been typically weaker. With his glovework, Rolen's probably in the top 100 players of all time, and The Crime Dog is probably in the top 250. Neither will bring shame on the Hall, but ... I'd still take Lou Whitaker or Bobby Grich over either. I'd certainly take Keith Hernandez or even Jack Clark over McGriff. McGriff also seemingly switched teams every three years, so I guess part of the tarnish is that there's no huge natural constituency for him.
  5. Patrick McCarthy just described the Mets offense as a bunch of Oprah groundouts. YOU get a groundout! And YOU get a groundout! And YOU get a groundout!
  6. Well, now he's having a difficult, frustrating walk to first.
  7. Radio ads keep promising me "more balls into play due to shift restrictions." I'm not sure how that is supposed to work.
  8. Leone is seemingly a daily visitor to the mound.
  9. Well, Peterson as a reliever may have some legs.

  11. Canha trying to throw out runners for the cycle. Which usually means there have been a large amount of opposing runners.
  12. =On May 1, 2014 at 11:51 am, Steve Ivie] Thanks for the clear explanation of Mike's career. He is my father, and I have heard these stories from him a million times. I complete understand the pressures an athlete has to deal with playing in bigs. Mike is doing great now!!

  22. Our batboy who just ran out with a new pitchcom looked like a third-string catcher.
  23. Trying to spot The Family Willets in the crowd.
  24. At 2–0, my dogs needed out and yelled and yelled at me. So I took 'em down the block, came back and it was 3–2. I should have stayed out longer.
