  1. I'm certain we'll see plenty of Vientos going forward.

My point is you need to play them regularly to find out on any level It's time I don't know how regular is regular but I can think of plenty of players who played some, and then played some more, and still emerged fine. Francisco Álvarez is right there to show how it can be done — playing 50% of the time, then 60%, then 70% then 80%. Now maybe more. Obviously, not everybody can play every day, but everybody equally is angling themselves for a chance to show what they can do. We'll see going forward. My guess he gets in against all lefties, and steals occasional days against righties from Guillorme, McNeil, Baty, Vogebach, and Stewart, and that means perhaps six games out of 10 if he isn't going well, and eight games out of 10 if he is, and the possibility for more or less as the situation reveals itself more clearly. If I'm the manager, I'm trying to win games.
  3. Yesterday was an exciting day for signing as the Mets raked in most of their unsigned draftees!! This is exciting because of his swinging Eckersleyan hair-and-'stache combo, and it's exciting because he comes with a name that makes his sound like the protagonist in a genre fiction serial collection with a name like Riders of the Chisholm Trail, or the like. He's welcome with an embrace that says that non-drafted free agents may still be longshots, but aren't as desperately long as they used to be. Still swimming in the Unsigned Draftees pool are starting pitchers Christian Little (round 19) and Gavyn Jones (18), along with reliever Brady Kirtner (round 12).
  4. I want to cry just knowing I'll never have Kelenic's hair.
  5. Vientos may indeed be the goods or not the goods. He may also be kind of the goods, but kind of not. But that's true of all of us.
  6. And having no righthanded batter to pinch-hit for Narváez is kind of getting caught with our pants down.
  7. Not a good 0-2 pitch, there, Drew.
  8. On the scoreboard, thanks to Omar Narváez. Outhitting his team 2-0.
  9. It's too bad. The handle really makes the person sound like a really objective observer.
  10. Well, we might have lost two outfielders in one afternoon. Danny Mendick, call your agent.
  11. Kopech leaving everything up this inning.
  12. Nice pack of daycampers in centerfield.
  13. Yeah, that blue-top thing is odd. Two runs, but I think Quint looks good. Hittable, but he's mixing it up, with everything around the plate and down.
  14. Stop acting so smart, Gary. Who doesn't know Cohoes?
  15. They just did IL him. I'm not sure I agree with Gary. I think a little wildness can be more forgiveable in an otherwise effective closer than in a starter.
  16. Welcome to the cause.
  17. Marte to the IL. No corresponding move announced. I'm guessing Vientos back.
  18. Chicago effectively deploying the doink.
  19. Losing first place after putting up a big lead to start off the season, the Rays suddenly realized that hiding players on the roster for next year is a luxury they can't afford. Meanwhile, Bryce Harper has suddenly become Bartolo Colon, heading to the plate on occasion just to take his turn, but with no intent to actively participate.

But I felt pretty good about pulling Dan Schatzeder out of my buttocks for my Royal Giant. I also went conservatively for Mays/Clemente/Rose in the .300 row. sharpie deserves a lot of credit for zagging while others zigged, but he's a genius and that's all there is to it. My Giant Met was T. Shinjo. My Pirate Met was Bob Friend. My Red Met was Gus Bell.
  21. They can pass two teams tonight.
  22. Also ... first-place O's!
  23. I'm pretty sure sextuple happiness is illegal in 48 or so states, but I won't tell if you don't.
  24. Born in 1999 in Kankakee, IL, the year the city was rated (by somebody) as "America's Worst Place to Live," in response to which David Letterman (or The Late Show) donated a pair of gazebos.
