  1. So far, no shedding of limbs to report from the armwatch, as the Mets and Nats are tied at one.
  2. A homer yesterday and healthy enough legs to play the outfield made me think that Pham was slipping away.
  3. Trades stuck in limbo stink. The teams get stuck in limbo. Francessa makes me depressed. Thoughtless, lazy bloviators at the top of their fields make me feel like society is teetering on the ege.
  4. Voit's streak ended with a one-for-one day, as Lehigh Valley pitchers walked him three times rather than give him a chance to keep swinging his stick.
  5. Ten total bases by rookies in this inning.
  6. Vientos swings at the first pitch too. And he homers later in the plate appearance too!
  7. Nninth inning. Don't swing. And Álvarez does swing. And he does miss. But he smashes a homer on the next pitch. So he's off the hook.
  8. Terrible inning as Baty seems to be jealously trying to match Vientos for infield awkwardness.
  9. Vogey pinch-hitting for Canha. That probably moves D.J. Stewart to the outfield in the ninth, but I really want Vogelbach to play the field. Maybe him at first and Vientos to the outfield. Adventure!
  10. Luke Voit has homered in six straight games. If someone decides to trade for Tomasino Pham, Voit could be our new righthanded DH.
  11. All our exes go to Texas.
  12. Gott got an error. Focus on your hitting, Vientos. We'll figure out what to do about that hole in your glove later.
  13. 2019-2020 Met Justin Wilson was all set to finally become a 2023 Brewer. But after the long road returning from ACL surgery, Craig Counsell signaled for him to come in from the bullpen and he was seen holding his arm after injuring it on his last warmup pitch.
  14. Bahamas Shahamas. I'm pretty sure Sebastian Walcott was a member of the Algonquin Round Table.
  15. Because of Moneyball, my wife tends to think all deadline deals are for Ricardo Rincon. "Mark ... Billy ... . Let's be honest. A premiere setup man is not going to get you any closer to the playoffs." "Are you referring to Rincon?" I mention that there's buzz that the Mets are preparing to trade Scherzer and Verlander, and she asks if they're doing so bad. I explain that no, it's the end of July and there's no trading after July, and the teams with the best hopes trade with the teams with lesser hopes and she's all "Are you referring to Rincon?" That's what I get for mansplainin'.
  16. Met Figures Already Inducted in the Appy League Hall of Fame Nolan Ryan (2018) Eddie Murray (2018) Bobby Floyd (2019) Rick Ankiel (2020) David Wright (2020)
  17. =metirish post_id=133198 time=1690644985 user_id=72] Dunno, feels like a stretch and a PR grab
  18. Hey, Sean Reid-Foley has been active since July 6! Pitching well too!
  19. The Pads were able to win handily over the Rangers, allowing them to finish the evening a half game ahead of the Mets, so the Rangers will have remain your prime non-Mets rooting interest for one more night. The Marlins are totally catchable, as their offense is very poor, but the Mets obviously have lent them a hand up in the form of David Robertson. As these things tend to go, Miami, San Francisco, and Arizona have all run cold just as the Cubs and Reds have heated up. A big part of whatever hopes remain for the Mets may depend on getting out of Baltimore with their shirts still on, or at least catching someone before they arrive in Baltimore.
  20. I don't think that's their biggest developmental issue. I also don't think teams develop players at positions of need. They develop players.
  21. As announced during the game last evening, Bartolo Colón will be "returning" to the Mets on something like one of those one-day-contract deals, in order to "retire" as a Met. While NFL teams use such occasions to create a press event, a baseball team like the Mets can turn it it into a promotional day, with a giveaway longsleeve and everything. The real story here is, obviously, the Mets stealing from The Crane Pool (again). While there's particularly nothing novel about punning on Colón/cologne, I think they used a base photo for their image from the same series of shots that The Crane Pool used. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/bartolo-cologn1.jpg>
  22. My impression is that high school firstbasemen tend to either go to college or fall down beyond round five in the draft. Obviously, it's not a hard rule. Dominic Smith, whose glove was as attractive as his bat, was a first rounder. While righties end up at first because of their defensive limitations, lefties sometimes just end up there because they're lefties.

Tony enjoyed a modestly successful minor league career, staying in the starting mix, almost never the best starter on his team almost never the worst, regularly enjoying promotions that were somewhat social and somewhat merited, all the while avoiding the Grim Reaper of Release. That ended this season when a combination of injuries and double-digit ERAs caught up with him. Transactions, 7/1/2023 [th]Direction[/th][td90]GOING[/td90][th]Transaction [/th][td90]Signed Away by Southern Maryland (Atlantic League)[/td90][th]Position Group [/th][th]Starting Pitcher[/th][th][/th][td90][fimg=90]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/c_fill,g_auto/w_180/v1/people/675914/headshot/milb/current[/fimg][/td90][th]Name [/th][td90]Tony Dibrell [fimg=50]https://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/US-flag.png[/fimg][/td90][th]DoB[/th][td90]1995-11-08[/td90][th]B/T[/th][td90]R/R[/td90][th]High Level[/th][td90]AAA (2023)[/td90] Those bemoaning Tony's loss will be happy to know that his career continues on in The Atlantic League, where the majors go to test-drive crackpot rule changes! Blessedly, his 5.85 ERA is five runs lower than what he was rocking with Syracuse.
  24. For chili or for Cheetos? Or for chili infused with Cheetos?
  25. I'm not sure what should be permitted. I just think MLB wouldn't want it and I suspect they have some regulation about it. I assume that when a PtBNL deal is made, the terms are reported to MLB and they know whether it's a specific player or a selection from a pool of players that will be made later. I don't know, though. The Chiti deal, I imagine, wasn't pre-planned as it worked out, but instead came about when the actual plan fell through. The player that the Indians were aiming at had gotten hurt or arrested, and the league had to sign off on the return. But obviously, it was a very different time. But we can ask Dom Chiti if he can provide any insight.
