  1. Of course you are allowed to use the word "choke."
  2. I want active participation tonight. No more messing about with "family" and "career advancement" and "#lifegoals." José Butto is pitching well but still looking for his first career win. The reason for that? It's in the mirror, Buddy. 3. Ten Facts: 1. Born in Manhattan in 1985, just around the time John Stearns was hitting the end of his career after a second elbow injury in winter ball. 2. Studied PoliSci at Harvard. Did sports reporting for The Crimson and interned with The Pittsburgh Pirates. 3. Upon graduation, came to work for the Mets in their baseball operations department. 4. Jumped to the MLB central office in 2008, working in labor relations and helping hammer out the CBA. 5. In 2011, became co-director of player operations for the then-Cleveland Indians, specializing in contracts. 6. Became GM of the Brewers in 2015 when he was just 30 years old. 7. Became a PoBO four years later. 8. Made playoffs four straight seasons during his GM/PoBO tenure. 9. Stepped down after disappointing 2022 to play out his contract as a consultant. 10. Now 38, he still looks like a kid — possibly 25 years old in some shots. Any signs of aging can be attributed to his deep regret trading Josh Hader, but waddayagonnado? The interesting part to me is that, when a new boss comes in, he has no personal need to redeem past transactions, so any hint of loyalties start falling by the wayside. All players are suddely available.
  4. That's something of an odd way of framing it. I tend to think that Sandy, without having the "of Baseball Operations" in the title, was kinda the PoBO nonetheless. But welcome to David Stoins!
  5. I also gakked on San Francisco's savior. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/09/screen-shot-2023-09-12-at-12.55.56-pm.png>
  6. Transactions, 9/8/2023 [th]Direction[/th][td90]COMING[/td90][th]Transaction [/th][td90]Sent to Brooklyn on Rehab Assignment[/td90][th]Position Group [/th][th]=#BF80FF] Infielder[/th][th][/th][td90][fimg=90]https://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Guillorme-Luis-2019.jpg[/fimg][/td90][th]Name [/th][td90]Luís Guillorme [fimg=50]https://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/venezuelan-flag-small.jpg[/fimg][/td90][th]DoB[/th][td90]9/27/94[/td90][th]B/T[/th][td90]L/R[/td90][th]High Level[/th][td90]MLB (2023)[/td90] One might think that Luis Guillorme would be playing for Syracuse by now after a weekend with Brooklyn, and that may yet be true by the end of the day, but I suspect they are slow-walking his rehab assignment, as the extended look they are trying to get for Baty/Vientos/Mauricio does not leave a lot of playing time at the big league level for Guillorme over the remaining weeks of 2023. Anyhow, he's still doing his thing for the Cyclones.
  7. D.J. Stewart didn't start enough to make a hard run at Player of the Month, but I'm glad Bench Player of the Month still exists to award him a well deserved consolation prize. His card and Gott's are terrific. I'm pretty surprised to see Gott win Reliever of the Month, but Ottavino, Raley, and Smith are having their innings rationed and everybody else is on the shuttle.
  8. I'm certainly not endorsing the trade or the price. I'm only trying to suggest that Diaz was the team's main target.
  9. Weak night for Roberto Ortíz. Unfortunately, the Mets put themselves in a position that they needed better from him.
  10. Brent Strom likes to address his pitchers while sticking his finger in their faces.
  11. I ran out of guesses before even tackling that square. With the pressure off now, I checked out the list and realize I ought to have come up with Bill Almon and Richie Zisk. Fun name to see on the list of Buc Sox is that of beloved forum member Johnny Dickshot.
  12. It would be wrong to make something out of Pavin Smith being named after golfer Corey Pavin, so I'm not going to do that.
  13. Murals of Julio Urias at Dodger Stadium have been covered up. That makes sense. You can't feature a guy under investigation for domestic assault in your marketing. That's a no-brainer. But reports also say that his locker has been physically removed from the locker room. That's a little more hardcore and personal, I think. I'm guessing they're going to do some extensive vetting any pitchers they recruit this offseason.
  14. I stepped away for a minute. I was not expecting the Mets to swap pitchers.
  15. Gotta love the alphabetical discipline the bovine toppler is showing in this thread.
  16. Mets answer a two with a three and counting!
  17. I tend to think taking on Canó's bad contract was the price of taking on Diaz' benevolent one. At least that's the way the Mets front office were looking at it as they chose to swallow that pill. Doesn't necessarily make it wise, of course, but that's probably a big part of the thinking.
  18. An 0-2 pitch with too much plate gives the 'Backs the first run of the game, and they're still first-and-third.
  19. The game is on now, Ash. Ketel Marte strikes out to lead off.
  20. Is the Sanitation Department's inclusion a newish thing?
  21. I'm not bemoaning, but I think there are plenty of facts in place to make a useful judgment.
  22. Neither Jack McDowell nor Lamarr Hoyt struck out 200 batters in a season as a White Sock. Hoyt didn't even come particularly close.
