  1. It's hard to say. The top two winning percentages in Mets history belong to managers without previous experience.
  2. That "17" figure is debatable, and depends on whether you count interims, recidivists, and interim recidivists. And do you count an interim triumberate who shared the job once, or multiple times? Early names, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, include former Philadelphia Phillies' general manager Matt Klentak and former Houston Astros' general manager James Click. Nightengale never struck me as good writer, but he's a guy who works his beat and shoots straight. Klentak was the guy who inherited a team that was paying the bills on contracts accrued during their last top-flight run, led them through some rough years, and got the boot just before their later (current) quality run. You may take that to mean his presence would be waiting out a five-year rebuild with the Mets, though that's probably not a necessary conclusion to draw. He has previously worked in top positions for Rockies, Orioles, and Angels. In the movie, he'd be played by Giovanna Ribisi. [FIMG=500]https://cdn10.phillymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Matt-Klentak-Headshot-940x540.jpg[/FIMG] Click is currently the Toronto Blue Jays' vice president role. He ran the Astros from 2020 until 2022 (which included the not officially tainted championship), and spent several years with the Rays before that. You may take that to mean his presence would mean a home-grown team, though that's probably not a necessary conclusion to draw. In the movie, he'd be played by Todd Louiso. 3. I understood the point.

  5. [Davey] totally approved the trade of [Dykstra]. [Cashen] tended to run deals by him when they involved established MLB personnel.
  6. If you don't care about a post, please don't comment on it.
  7. A play that's impossible to make today with the safety handrail at the top of the left-field fence.
  8. It was also pre-Cohen. Pre-COVID too. Not pre-Madonna, though.
  9. Holy crap! First Vic Sage appearance in over three years!
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: Of course Eppler could counter with, 'Have YOU noticed that they're doing quite nicely after NOT resigning Freddie?' If there's a Matt Olson-quality player out there available to replace Pete Alonso, I'd certainly entertain the idea. Who exactly that would be is not clear in this hypothetical. There's always somebody. Who will perform like Matt Olson in 2024 and beyond is an open question, but somebody will. Vladdy Guerrero,Jr.? Josh Naylor? Matt Vientos? And somebody may even be more likely to perform like Matt Olson than Pete Alonso is likely to perform like Freddie Freeman. Or like Pete Alonso. It's certainly unclear, as the future always is. But that's where the smart folks find their edge.
  11. I think a player doing that would soon be blacklisted? This would seem a "normal " part of the game . Hunter's pretty much at the end of the line, though. So snitching can't cost him much.
  12. Elieser Hernandez was about to be activated in August, but he quickly and mysteriously disappeared. Maybe he was out of rehab time, and out of options, but it was clear he wasn't back enough yet to contribute at the big league level and they didn't want to freeze a roster spot for him, but they didn't want to lose him. So a new injury appeared. All speculation, though.
  13. /*Runs to Xwitter to check out some Lenny Dykstra hot takez.
  14. Mattingly probably has a decent chance of at least getting through the door for an interview.
  15. =ashie62 post_id=138939 time=1696551236 user_id=90] There has been some talk about Buck and Eppler disagreeing about Vogelbach's playing time Eppler may have pushed Buck to play Vogelbach more than Buck may have liked
  16. I'm kinda guessing Bryn Alderson for GM and Joey Cora for manager. Mets go double-nepotism. In fact, feel free to guess three sets — the leadership team you want, the leadership team you think you'll get, and the leadership team that could conceivably happen within the realm of reason, but you'd absolutely hate. Want-Get-Hate. I guess that's a variation on Fuck-Marry-Kill, though I never really understood that game. WANT: Ben Sestanovich, assistant GM of the Braves, and Joe McEwing GET: Bryn Alderson and Joey Cora HATE: Uh, Dan O'Dowd and Ozzie Guillen
  17. If they can reach a deal, they'll reach a deal. If they can't, they won't. Isn't the aversion to Boras kind of past its due date?
  18. Mike should be our national eulogist. "Feinstein I didn't know, but you hear nice things about her. Solid senator. Not a great senator, but a solid senator. Had some good days."
  19. =smg58 post_id=138706 time=1696276487 user_id=62] Like Eppler, Showalter had plusses and minuses and you can't credit him for last season while giving him a pass on this year. The Mets have done quite a bit worse in the recent past, but they can also do better and hopefully they will. Remind me to copy and paste this post sometime later in the week when it's Eppler's turn.
  20. Trading Pete Alonso for a tub of goo. What an insult that would be.
  21. Clearly, the Marlins had trouble recovering from that devastating ruling giving them a loss to the Mets on Thursday last.
  22. Aidan is the best.
  23. Died with a comfortable lead on Akeel Morris for the title of "Greatest Met from the US Virgin Islands."
  24. Shorthand: It's a perfectly defensible squad that looks a lot like the 24–31 team they've had the last two months, plus Edwin Diaz. But we can be sure they have greater ambitions.
  25. Big news for Hartwig! Bigger news for Anthony Kay!! Baseball-reference hasn't gotten with the program yet.
