  1. Tune your sets to Gary Apple TV+.
  2. He does. And he also came from Western Mass. But he's not our guy. Hint one: Our guy was indeed born in a hockey town, but not in New England. Our guy first saw the light of day in Buffalo, New York.

I don't know, but I imagine only Ed Kranepool and Ron Hodges have had more guys scribble their names halfheartedly into a lineup card. But that's the hand I've been dealt. Mets players who have played for five or more managers: Tom Seaver 9 Ed Kranepool 8 Jerry Grote 7 ... I mentioned some of these names to him, and Nido just looked away and mumbled something along the lines of "I wasn't counting interims ... ." I was going to remind him that, hey, Frank Howard is a person, but he just looked so sad, and reminding him of the weakness of even this dubious claim to fame wasn't going to make him any less so. Also nobody ever scribbled Tom Seaver's name halfheartedly onto a lineup card.
  4. Not Santana, not Pudge. Folks seem to be leaning Metsward with their guesses, so I'll concede that the guy did play for the Mets, though not most famously.
  5. Not Pudge. Although he hails from Northern New England, I imagine his childhood took place before there was an NHL Flyers team, much less a junior version of such.
  6. I like your thinking, with Ron growing up in hockey town like Millbury Massachusetts. You're using brain-thinking, but it's not Darling.
  7. Not Stairs, not McGraw, and not Glavine β€” none of whom were actually active big leaguers in 1985.
  8. This card come from 1985. "______________ played for the NHL Flyers Junior Hockey Team." Name that player.
  9. Five. I'm on my fifth Mets manager. Collinshallwayrojasshowaltermendoza. You say "Skipper" and that's the word that flashes through my mind. I don't know, but I imagine only Ed Kranepool and Ron Hodges have had more guys scribble their names halfheartedly into a lineup card. But that's the hand I've been dealt. My story is well-written. I'm not incapable offensively, but I've never, ever been able to put together any sustained run of moderate success. If I remain in a backup role, my bat atrophies, but when forced into a starting role, it grows overexposed. The one time it seemed like I had it figured out was 2020, and then I got hurt. It's like ... I'm one adjustment away but everyone adjusts faster than me. Defensively, I generally get high marks, but it doesn't really show up in the numbers, does it? Outside of blocking pitches in the dirt, no part of my defensive game really stands out. I've got friends. I've known Lindor since youth baseball, and me and Diaz also got this Puerto Rican thing going. But how far is that going to get me? It's like people want me to better than I am. And I really suspect they're right β€” that I am better than I am. Or at least better than I've performed. But I'm now 30 years old and 277 games of Major League Baseball tells a pretty compelling story, no matter what anybody believes. Sometimes you've got everything going for you to be a Major League catcher except the personality to get in there and push everybody around. To express your authority. Franciso Álvarez can fail to hit for two months and nobody doubts that he's a big leaguer. But again, now I'm 30. And a lot of pitchers on this staff have come up behind me. Maybe it's my time to take the proverbial bull by the horns. The apple by the stem. Yes my record tells a story despite what anybody believes, but I'm here to ask, what do you believe about my 2024? Because Álvarez is hurt, and the Mets didn't call on Austin Allen, Joe Hudson, Matt O'Neill, Kevin Parada, or Hayden Senger. They called on me. Again. What do you believe? 10. =Cowtipper post_id=153322 time=1713994998 user_id=166] Garrett is averaging 17.3 K/9 IP this year. If he's a late-blooming great like Wade Davis or Andrew Miller, I'll eat my pants.
  11. Well, Lindor is off the Interstate. Over .650 with his OPS too. Seems like a week ago that he was hitting .048 or something.
  12. Oh, https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/11500/f1_t11560.shtmlyou remember him.
  13. In fairness to Mendoza, the decision to pull Manaea after 101 pitches may have been a matter of organizational policy that he can't change on a whim.
  14. Well, there goes Reed's perfect season.
  15. =kcmets post_id=153319 time=1713994688 user_id=53] Garrett - four out magic!
  16. In the Mets/Yankees World Series of 2000, Joe Torre hooked Denny Neagle after 4 2/3 innings in a much tighter game (3-to-2). There was nobody on and he had only thrown 73 pitches, but Piazza was up and Torre didn't trust his pitcher. it seemed like a minor scandal at the time. Now it's the most common thing in the world.
  17. Manaea looks like he's going through a serious personal crisis in the dugout. I'm on your side, Sean!
  18. Edgy MD wrote: After review from our home office on Mars, the call is overturned. Is that Conforto HBP? My in-game said he was HBP and Soler was coming up with the bases loaded. Later Yeah, it took 10 minutes for some reason to figure out what was obvious from the get-go, that the ball ticked off of the knob of his bat.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: And the cruelest of hooks for Manaea. Hey, managers, there is nothing magic about 100 pitches! It's a weird fad. The more they try to conserve and limit pitchers, the more they seem to get hurt and need season-ending surgeries. I remember when it was 120, obviously. That seemed like a good standard. I wish it was a fad. It's closer to a rule from where I sit.
  20. I've screwed up trying to be too cute recently, so today I went mostly with the most obvious of guesses. ⚾️ Immaculate Grid 388 9/9: Rarity: 92 IMMACULATE! 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩 Play at: https://immaculategrid.comhttps://immaculategrid.com @immaculategrid x @baseball_ref But my last one was Jim Wohlford. He's somehow my Nat-Expo/Brewer.

  22. After review from our home office on Mars, the call is overturned.
  23. That wasn't just a reaction dive by Baty. He took three or four steps toward the line before diving.
