  1. Welcome back to Starling Marte. Nimmo gets a break against the lefty. Might have also been a good day to get Short a start (or, you know, Vientos), but alas.
  2. We have Short memories.
  3. Indeed, we all are.
  4. Probably a better hitter than Joey Wendle, although it didn't show up in whatever data we have so far this year. Probably a worse fielder than Joey Wendle, although it didn't show up in whatever data we have so far this year. It would have been nice for his ride to have lasted longer, but with José Iglesias, Mark Vientos, Ronny Mauricio, Luisangel Acuna, Jett Williams, et al. pushing him from behind, he was between a rock and a hard place trying to hold spot. It was either get off to a fast start or get out of the way.
  5. Pete Crow-Armstrong couldn't enter the game until the seventh, just as Sean Reid-Foley exited. There's obviously some sort of quantum law about a hyphenate not being allowed to face a hyphenate.

You'd've thought we'd've noticed by now, but apparently https://uni-watch.com/2024/04/25/what-will-j-d-martinez-wear-on-the-back-of-his-mets-jersey/he's had a thing going for a while. The important thing is that none of us see him and yell, "Hey, Victor!!"
  7. José Abreu, your 2020 MVP, ten years into his career, having also received MVP support in six other years, somehow just got farmed out by the Astros after hitting .099 with no homers and 3 RBI in April. Farmed out ... to rookie ball. I mean, I realize that you get sent to the Florida Complex League because that's where the organization has a surfeit of instructors, and a less competitive environment to get one's act together in. And I realize he'd probably be sent to the organization's Florida State League affiliate, but they're probably on the road. And I realize that it's kind of analogous to a rehab assignment as much as a demotion, but ... . But man, that's a dis'.
  8. We've come this far, to the end of April, and there's no WISf24? thread devoted to me. That's no accident, as these stupid threads went up in the order of how ZiPS projected our season was going to turn out, and ZiPS had me behind a bunch of day-laboring relievers, prospects who could well not make it onto the roster at all, DfA targets, already released dudes like Taylor Kohlwey. Rylan Bannon, Ben Gamel, and Wyatt Young were all expected to outpace me, according to some secret, proprietary data crushing produced by some secret, proprietary people that somebody decided to call ZiPS. Well, so far, ZiPS seems wrong. Like, hilariously so. I may be pretty damned redundant now that the Mets have J.D. Martinez, and my main role right now is keeping Matt Vientos off the roster, but I'm the guy leading the team in big moments, and I produced another one just tonight. April doesn't automatically predict September. The world could look a lot different then. But it's sure relevant, so thank you to whoever delayed putting this thread up, giving all of you smart guys that much more information to consider as you tell me just what my season will look like five months from now. Don't be scared you might be wrong. You certainly can't be any wronger than ZiPS. 9. The double was on a pretty solid pitch as well. First win in three years for Sean Reid-Foley. But I'm thinking that DJ is our PotG.
  10. J-Lo for the save. Hmmmm ... .
  11. Otto, indeed, is having a terrific season. After those leadoff walks the last two innings, I felt pretty safe that Adam wasn't going there.
  12. The Cubs have a couple of guys who should be playing for their NL Central rivals — with a pitcher named Brewer (whose curve I like) who somehow eluded Milwaukee, and firstbaseman name Busch who isn't a Cardinal. No players on the bench named Red or Pirate as far as I can tell.
  13. Michael Busch staying in the game to play first. The Cubs have completely forsaken Wisdom.
  14. Did that go over the heads of the Tuesday Night Mets Club?
  15. Ain't no Cubs defender going to catch a ball in the upper tank, though.
  16. For a team with a lot of Gold Glovers in the lineup, it's the Cubs D keeping the Mets in the game.
  17. If the coaches positioned Hoerner a step more to his left, Assad might be throwing a one-hitter.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Not a smart throw by Wisdom on the SB attempt. Lindor could have gotten called a second time for abandoning his baseline. He didn't interfere any more than last time, but he certainly could have been considered to be screening.
  19. Terrific first. Only one run, but Assad threw 25 pitches and struck out nobiddy.
  20. Man, I forget how much Assad looks like a graduate assistant in the sociology department.
  21. Sean Manaea using "Just the Two of Us" for entrance music? Whatever works, man.
  22. Welcome back, Narvotter.
  23. It's been rough riding for Kohlwey, who didn't hit much in Spring Training either.
