  1. Wiggy is at .833. How many PA did he need to qualify?
  2. Yeah, I absolutely didn't invoke him to fire up the hot stove.
  3. Phil Humber is 799. Unless something very unexpected happens, that's our last debut for 2006. See you in this thread next year, Zito guessers.
  4. In a word: fear. On August 5th, the Mets wrapped up a 4-3 victory over the Phillies with a game-saving diving stop by David Wright. As Wright put the finishing touches on the game, his agents were putting the finishing touches on a contract extension guaranteeing Wright $55,000,000 over the next six years. Through that day, David Wright was batting .308, while slugging .545 and reaching base at a .383 clip. Since then, his batting average has actually gone up, but he's reached at a .376 clip and is slugging .500. And that bothers me, until I realize that to compain that a guy has only been slugging .500 for the last six weeks is pretty miserly. On the other hand, those numbers would have come out worse hadn't Wright had a homer and a cheap triple today. Stupid Wright.
  5. I think Nady is that power bat, but he's been compromised somewhat by the appendectomy. I think next season he'll be a different guy.
  6. Shadow or substance?
  7. Ty Wigginton has an OPS of .792, but is sitting at 374 at-bats and 409 plate appearances. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=421064 Bad news for duan is that the D-Rays just released their firstbaseman Travis Lee, which should give Wiggum more PT. The Mets, meanwhile are second in the National league in runs yielded and second in runs scored. I think that suggests a draw for Dickshot.
  8. Say it ain't so, Joe! TeamLeagueWLERAGGSCGSHOSVIPHRERHRBBSOGO/AOAVGBRONYP010.4517000920.0103103282.56.141BINEAS025.6810000012.21288111122.13.267Minors032.4827000932.222119114402.35.190 Bingo got their pants handed to them last night. They got beat up like Rock Hudson at the end of Giant.
  9. Y'all who voted for Perez (I think that means Zvon and nobody else), please stop by for a parting gift. Regarding Met Number 700: When Hidecki Matsui went down in the first inning of a Yankee game, it was pointed out that his games-played streak was ended as soon as he left the game, because you don't get credit for appearing in the game until (I think) you get an at-bat, a defensive chance or pitch like three pitches (or record an out pitching). I'm not sure what the actual rule was, but it was clearly put in place to stop would-be Gehrigs from extending a streak by hiding in the field for a half inning. Anypants, maybe the order in which a player's appearance should be recorded should be the order in which they reach this threshold (whatever it was)
  10. Look to St. Lucie. How about Sal Aguilar? Or Travis Hope?
  11. Willets Point wrote: Edgy DC wrote: Hide your babies, Willets. Are you planning to reveal my surname? No, it's just that there's a PtBNL heading out of town, and your adoptees have proved to be particularly vulnerable at trading hour.
  12. Hide your babies, Willets.
  13. Guben Rotay.
  14. Guillermo Mota is scheduled (though who knows, delays happen) to be the 796th Met (and 25th newcomer in 2006, wow). Who will be number 800?
  15. Yeah, I watch the games. I'd be curious as to how the automatic out compares statistically as a hitter and as a fielder with other utility infielders.
  16. It is said Chris Woodward is valuable because he plays so many positions. He is a butcher in the field and an automatic out. Valentin please get well so David Wright can sit! "It is said"? Please tell me who is saying it? And on what do you base your contention that he is a butcher?
  17. Better than that. Look it up... five straight years of 25-30 homers. Declining batting averages, but still not typicallly so low as that.
  18. Plus two thirds of a season of Nady (interrupted by appendicitis).
  19. Ring has worn 22 in the past, i think. The Mets lost in 2000 with Leiter in 22, so maybe we can let go of the double-deuces.
  20. Johnny Dickshot wrote: And it's "Bazooka" Joe. It's just gotta be. Why not? It beats the Stormin' Mormon. I'll write to him and run the nickname by him.
  21. In three seasons at Wright State University, Joe had 22 saves while fanning 145 hitters and walking just 39. According to one scouting report, Joe's a rare case of a guy who got more velocity sidearming than coming over the top: The Mets second pick was Joseph Smith of Wright St. University in Ohio. He is a 22 year old, 6'2", 205 lb relief pitcher with a sidearm delivery. He increased his velocity by dropping down his motion, improving his speed to the low 90s. He has a good slider and a good change up as well. The junior righthander from Cincinnati, Ohio posted 13 saves for the Raiders and was instrumental in the WSU’s run for the Horizon League Championship and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. He had a 3-1 record, 13 saves, with an ERA of 0.98 in 31 appearances, striking out 63 and giving up just five extra base hits, 9 runs, and 34 hits in 55 innings. Smith, a graduate of Amelia High School, was recently named WSU’s Male Athlete of the Year as well as team MVP. He is the highest drafted Wright State player since pitcher Brian Anderson was taken third overall in the 1993 draft.
  22. And what a distinctive name! I haven't adopted anyone from this year's draft yet, and I find that I'm a sucker for relief pitchers putting up low ERAs in small workloads: Joseph Serfass and Wayne Ough having already slept in my loft space. I guess I'll never learn, because I'm adopting Joe after he just got sent to Binghamton, after releasing his debut album, Too Sick For Brooklyn: TeamWLERAGGSCGSHOSVIPHRERHRBBSOBrooklyn010.4517000920.010310328Binghamton000.00200003.0100021
  23. I have it. I'll send it tomorrow.
  24. Problem is that I can update everything at home, but my spreadsheet application isn't Excel, and it won't translate likely when I send it to Yancy for re-introduction to our database. Most of my work is here, but I'm not in a professional situation where I can, you, know, spend my day tooling around with baseball spreasheets.
  25. The thing about Nady is I don't buy that he is the worst defensive outfielder that GYC has ever seen.
