  1. My definitive 12 is definitely Stearns. It's just Francoeur and his oh-for-July who turned the number sour for me.
  2. The "blows us away" quote is at least six days old. Heyman thinks Twitter is for recycling.
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Everyone knows that wins are a faulty stat.... Oh, there are still some holdouts.
  4. What do you do for the guy who enters with the tying run on base and no out in the seventh or eighth, bails his team out, and sees Mr. Bigstuff enter with a clean slate in the ninth and get the save?
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Number on the front. (Note the 50th Anniversary patch.) I see 12 and think Francoeur is coming back. He's damaged that number for me.
  6. Ceetar wrote: "I don't think Jose ending up anywhere outside the Mets is ideal," Alderson said. "In terms of in the division or out of the division, ultimately that's not something we control." that quote doesn't sound like spin to cushion the blow. It makes it sound like a priority to me. I didn't say anything about any spin.
  7. seawolf17 wrote: Remember early in the season when we were talking about Turner making some RoY noise? Yeah. They'd do themselves a favor if they asked for than three names on the ballot --- giving that many more players a small feather in their caps, that many more teams a reason to write a press release, and that many more fans a brief warm fuzzy, seeing their team had a guy finish eighth.
  8. Wow. What comes around goes around. Maybe the Athletics will go back to the cartoon elephant.
  9. Except Alderson has pointed out that he feels he can afford to sign the other players they need AND Reyes. So the Mets aren't looking to pinch pennies from one to pay for another. Every word I read from Alderson seems to be carefully designed to be prepare me for the harsh reality that signing Reyes is no likelihood. If he signs Reyes and "the other players they need," they will mostly be cheapo versions of the other players they need. And I'm OK with that.
  10. The more I look at this, the more I look at Alderson and Ricco trying (and struggling) to construct a scenario whereas they can retain both Reyes and Wright and it means not only backloading, but austerity in almost all other departments. It would mean likely shedding Pelfrey and Pagan and perhaps promoting not-yet-ripe rookies as their replacements. It would mean tossing Paulino over and living with Thole plus Nickeas plus rookies and journeymen. Capuano wants two years? Give him two beers and tell him to get lost. We'll find some other post-op dude to be 2012's Capuano. It would mean perhaps somehow eating 70% of Bay's remaining contract. It has meant kicking AAAA players to the curb. It has meant cutting administrative staff. I think they've already closed their Venezuelan Academy. The head-scratcher is that they're still looking to add a veteran closer. That's Reyes money, you fools.
  11. Sorry to see Buchholz get tossed down the slide. We were Facebuk buds. And man, if anybody is a placeholder and a placeholder alone, it's Stinson. The Mets have positively gutted the 40-Man. They can add three free agents by the Rule 5 draft and still have enough space to protect six minor league vets. 12. Where the heck is Greenberg?
  13. They hang their trophies in a closet? That's really stupid.
  14. All contracts have something to do with one another. High contracts set standards for contracts to follow and move negotiations along. Marketplaces gather momentum. That's all.
  15. That's going to move Reyes' needle. It's just gotta.
  16. Let's sign Oquendo while he's still angry.
  17. Alfonso Soriano followed through on the refuse-to-move threat --- for, like, two spring training games.
  18. Yeah, I caught that too. Maybe, but we don't have much in the way of new sources. Costa --- a gun jumper --- was the original source. Brown's tweet was "MLB Network Radio saying they are NOT reporting Reyes to Marlins. Hearing elsewhere it IS happening."
  19. ... of classic comic book characters.
  20. Well, he'll likely mean more because of the posting fees involved. Maybe a lousy 2011 will lighten the competition, and the Mets may be less afraid than other teams if they are looking for defense first. I'm a little wary of this quote. "Personally, I want to assist him to make the move," said (club president Tsuyoshi) Kinugasa, who said he met with Aoki on Monday night. The club plans to give a response by Thursday after hearing the opinions of its executive board. Is that profession of professional courteousness or is it an offer to pack the guy's bags and drive him to the airport just to get rid of him?
  21. Sheesh. Too young. I remember the day he got called up, because the Expos disabled Bill LEE and added Charlie LEA.
  22. I guess the deal with Pridie and Evans isn't so much about clearing roster space but just austerity move, saving the team perhaps a few hunnert thou by kieeping them from havng to offer the two guys big-league contracts commensurate with their modest experience. If they don't get lost on waivers or --- in the case of Evans --- declare free agency, I guess it's prudent. But it must come off as pretty dicky from their point of view. Nice wedding gift and all for Pridie.
  23. Way to go, Dan Mullin!
  24. I don't know what they're planning, but they're clearing a big chunk of space from the big league roster. Nick Evans is one jerked-around dude.
