  1. 5. Supporting Actress: ... Melissa McCarthy, "Bridesmaids" ... 9. Original Screenplay: ... Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig, "Bridesmaids" ... Whoah, how about a hand for the movie that most divided the Crane Pool electorate? Surprised to see only nine Best Picture nominees? How about two best song nominees?
  2. No points.
  3. That gets him out of my league. Hard to think he won't be a Yankee DH before that contract is up.

    Almeida

Can't find him on the Braves roster, but I did find that Jorge Sosa is kicking some ass in the Dominican Winter League.
  5. We did have Everett and Ochoa platooning in right for a bit. And Everett and Huskey. It's not like they all didn't get plenty of PT under both Valentine and Green. The Johnson love distorts things a little. The Mets won the championship not with Mitchell at shortstop --- he appeared there for 24 games and a total of 151 innings. The starter (139 games and 1044 innings) was Rafael Santana, who didn't get his batting average over .200 until August 25, and who had an OPS+ of 52.
  6. Is Astro scooting there?
  7. Doug Flynnigan, and I loved him for it.
  8. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hernan001joh A shame to see "Unknown" with regard to what arm he threw with. Ask Keith!
  9. That's nine degrees of awesome. I think of Dave Schneck as elusive. I also always figured a Met that would make himself scarce would be Mac Scarce.

Still, name-changing is a serious leap. I thought that too, but then I kind of got this steampunk vibe that the team suggested a notion of the leap to space as a natural extension of the rail revolution. I wouldn't give them credit for that. Seemed like McLane was Wilpon-like in his deafness to the history of the club he owned. Oh, sure, largely accidental perhaps, but a vibe nonetheless.
  11. To say nothing of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. Suck it, haters. Go, Team Edward!

  13. Dave Hudgens shows off his VWL championship ring.
  14. It would be a pretty powerful symbol of the death of America's ambition for space exploration.
  15. Fascinating. Kyle Williams is Kenny Williams' son.
  16. In my world, the sets start coming out shortly after the season starts, with runs proportionate to a player's time on the roster.
  17. Yeah, a lot of the talk that Moneyball is obsolete because everybody has read it and everybody is looking for on-base guys misses the point in that the idea is to look for any assets undervalued by the marketplace. And some of those Sandy and his team seem to try to zero in on are guys a year removed from surgery and guys who wore at their welcome at another home after a failed PED test. Maybe guys who got thrown overboard for lying or some other signing scandal, but are still talented, are guys Sandy has a file on. Still the DSL at 21 is a man pitching to boys.
  18. Rob Castellano of Amazin' Avenue ranks numbers 41-50 on their way to a comprehensive top 50..
  19. So, am I correctly understanding that you are Lou C.?
  20. He did. But no, I don't think so. He wanted actual cash money this year, not the chump change the Mets paid him 2011. But he limped across the finish line, so I'm not sure anybody's gonna open the checkbook, or see mcuh more in him than the Mets saw last February.
  21. Three free agents remain. And the Mets have two spots to potentially fill this offseason ---one of them being the spot of the guy they lost today. Rumors returning to Rick Ankiel. 22. It must be a real Woodstock moment for the Met Hunters of the world to see Choo Choo doing his first ever card shows. (That's two more than I've ever been to.) The pickoff anecdote holds up.
  23. Provided the versatility a short contemporary MLB bench needs, though, even if he wasn't much of a threat as our lefty bat off the bench.
