  11. He looks strong like bull. Core strength kind of strong, if you believe in that sort of thing. If he ever makes the roster, I might take him over Hairston in the wrestling pool. The family is a real regional sports dynasty. Daddy Manu Tuiasosopo played six years as a Seahawk. Sister Leslie Tuiasosopo was a standout volleyballer at UWash, and is now assistant coach there. Brother Marques Tuiasosopo played quarteback at UW and returned as strength and conditioning coach. Brother Zach Tuiasosopo was a fullback and a belligerent drunk at UW. Sister Ashley Tuiasosopo was a Bulldog outfielder: And Matt, of course, was a Mariner.
  12. I think baseball makes him the guy who maybe should have played football like his brothers and dad. But I'm excited.
  13. I had no idea there was a Somoan American in MLB, and the son of the first Samoan athlete I ever heard of Manu Tuiasosopo. Welcome to the Mets, Matt Tuiasosopo.
  14. The Indians, gobbling up one-time Met properties left and right, sign minor league deals with Dan Wheeler and Jose de la Torre, who somehow never got far enough to make a memory despite a few solid years at the top of the Mets' system. More than solid, even. They join Joe Smith in Cleveland's camp. I guess that could count as "left and right."

  17. Dallas Braden shows off his new tattoo. No corporate logo there. It's a dolphin. Swimming under a rainbow. With Rollie Fingers on his back. Forever.
  18. How frequently?
  19. Pierre's an interesting fit if he's willing to take a lesser/gift shop role.
  20. Eric Clapton, sleeping at the stick again. Meanwhile, this guy sold his soul four times over to get a 2010 nomination and came up empty.
  21. metsmarathon wrote: and lets please not confuse the jersey shore with new jersey. ever. Yeah, get it right. The real New Jersey is an amalgam of The Sopranos, Charles in Charge, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, with a lumpy helping of Stand by Your Man, the short lived but visceral Rosie O'Donnell/Melissa Gilbert FOX vehicle.
  22. soupcan wrote: Sael of the City of Houston On Monday February 17, 1840 at the regular City Council meeting a resolution was passed authorizing Mayor Charles Bigelow "to procure a seal to be styled, the seal for the City of Houston, Texas." Dr. Francis Moore, Jr. was a state senator and former mayor of Houston. It was he who had the original seal designed. The top half of the seal bore the words, "City of Houston." The bottom half was originally empty. Dr. Moore was paid $50 for the seal, and "his honor the Mayor, caused the word 'Texas' to be cut on said seal." The center of the seal bears "The Lone Star, symbol of the newborn nation of the west...... the 'Noble locomotive', heralding Houston's spirit of progress; the humble plow, symbol of the agricultural empire of Texas, from which Houston would draw her wealth - by the iron rails." The Houston Locomotives? The Houston Engineers? The Houston Conductors? The Houston Cabooses? Help me out here... The Locos (has a Spanish double meaning, which is cool) The Railers (phallic, very intimidating) The Spikers (very phallic, almost philthy) The Spikes (another double meaning, referencing the rail industry as well as baseball shoes)
  23. Vic Sage wrote: how did my daughter get control of Edgy's CPF account? I have to say, your daughter has quite the potty mouth. Seriously, not even Breaking Dawn could produce an original soundtrack song up to the nominating standards of, say, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"? I tell you, from Woody Allen to Baz Luhrmann to Wes Anderson to directors of far lesser talent, the notion of the original song seems to be slowly fading from movies, in favor of directors playing DJ, using material with a proven track record of exactly what kind of response it'll get from an audience.
  24. Frank Cashen Dwight Gooden Jane Jarvis Davey Johnson Mike Piazza Darryl Strawberry Bobby Valentine Rube Walker OK, so Cashen, Johnson, Gooden and Straw were inducted. Jane Jarvis Mike Piazza Bobby Valentine Rube Walker Jane Jarvis' passing kind of takes away any immediacy to the notion of inducting your organ player. And if she was to be inducted, she wouldn't go in alone, as we lack marquee value. This also goes for a deceased coach, as much as I supported his candidacy. Sorry, Rube Walker. Mike Piazza Bobby Valentine Valentine is back in uniform for another team. This leaves him out. Piazza may go in before his expected Hall of Fame election. He also is a uniting force in a divided Mets culture. I like the idea of Doubleday, but that will just pound the team with the Wilpon finance narrative. So Piazza or Franco seem most likely.
