  1. Word of the activation or Rob Johnson. Not sure of the corresponding move (Nickeas?). May has outhit Johnson. (Though neither have gotten going yet, May has a few homers.) But I guess they want the righty. OE: Calling up Jean-Luc Blacquiere to a team that already has Captain Kirk would be a headline-writer's dream.
  2. Well, that's rock-bottom.
  3. Aaron Sele: strange contributor to the September collapse. He had gone all year without starting and when they needed someone the last two weeks they were willing to go to anyone but him. Meanstwhile, I guess a part of this is losing the left and rightfielder simultaneously.
  4. Are we certain Jose Lima is dead? I don't imagine Acosta is going anywheres just yet, but I'm curious what happens, as Sandy has a nice basky day off to drink lemonade and think about it.
  5. We are the Mets. This is our gig. Five-run holes is what dig
  6. I probably do. The bench is short, the bullpen's gassed. On the other hand, offday tomorrow.

  8. I was hoping we could get Ramirez or somebody to pinch-puke for Duda.
  9. Ceetar wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Duda not in game after all. Neiuwy in left. Schwinden walks shitty leadoff hitter, who steals on next pitch. given the lineup is the 'same' I wonder if Duda was technically replaced after the lineup cards exchanged? Gameday giving me a boxscore that doesn't include Duda, so I'm guessing he's still available.

It drove me nuts these last few nights to see Torres getting up there in the middle of everything. Ceets, that's your cue. Where are you on this one, man?!
  11. I'm a little curious when Operation Torres Restoration goes into effect. Until he bats leadoff again, it's this thing I keep waiting to happen. It's driving me mad. To be fair, it wasn't a long drive. I think Collins is liking him down further as a break up the lefties guy. I see what Terry is trying to do... with four of the starting eight batting left-handed, he doesn't want to cluster them too much in the middle of the lineup. Edgy's lineup accomplishes the same thing, but I think, in a better way. EDIT: Ceetar said pretty much the same thing I did, but two minutes sooner. Yabbut, you honored my attempt to do better and Ceetar zinged me for the effort. DAMN YOU, CEETAR!
  12. Yeah, if he's not going to be leadoff, eighth or ninth is fine.
  13. Yeah, maybe gimme some: Torres cf Tejada ss Murphy 2b Wright 3b Doodoo rf Hairy lf Davis 1b Thole c Schwincompoop, sp I'm a little curious when Operation Torres Restoration goes into effect. Until he bats leadoff again, it's this thing I keep waiting to happen. It's driving me mad.
  14. Ike Davis, under the helpful guidance of this thread, is up to .188 and a 2-4 day would get his head above water. Andres Torres is at the line and anything 1-5 or better should keep him there. Go, Andres. Jordany Valdespin needs some swings. I think maybe they should have started him at catcher today.
  15. Ceetar wrote: would it be better if I said Rubin's a partial jerk? Has there ever been a negative post-op report on a Tommy John surgery? On virtually any sports medicine surgery? "We took a ligament from Mike's hip and tranplanted it to his elbow and, frankly, it was an absolute disaster."
  16. Yeah, I'm double checking, and I feel reasonably confident that, with a double (the Mets' only extra-base hit), a walk, two runs scored and two double-plays turned, he advanced the Mets' winning chances three-four times as much as anybody else.
  17. Cool! Schaefer talk! Taking it seriously, unfortunately, means keeping all responses to each other's votes in the parent Schaefer thread. I'll move these.

  19. And the bullpen mostly did the job, keeping the Astros to one run over the next five innings --- though they walked a ton. I'm a little confused about Parnell being the guy you go to after you've burned Ramirez. I'd like to see them get alternated a little bit more. But I don't hang this one on Terry hitting the panic button. Moreso on the offense not being able to operate down a few key parts. I'm holding out hope that a power spike is coming.
  20. Yeah, Chase Hutchingson, Adrian Rosario, Adam Kolarec, who the heck are you and how are you anchoring a pitching staff with a 2.45 ERA?
  21. Turner 4.44 Hairston 1.36 Thole 1.02 Rauch 0.94 Torres 0.84 Wright 0.83 Batista 0.30 Ramirez 0.27
  22. Oh, Brad Mills, two outs in the eighth, nobody on, and up by three, and you need to go to a lefty specialist to face Davis. You have no future with any team of mine, I tell you what.
  23. Torres showing the coverage that is his calling card. We can use that.
  24. Lotsa walks to give.
  25. Yipes. Should've activated Dave Racianello. Very cool to see Batista hit... if he stays in the game.
