  1. As long as they're non-results things, I won't ask, then.
  2. He also ended up with a blown save, mostly because of the mistakes of others he was inheriting.

Honestly, though... the trade they need to make most-- Davis or Duda outta Dodge, for something with real growth potential-- is one they can't make at this moment. They really can't trade Johan. I wonder how whether there's Dickey talk out there. Alderson has shown himself to be a real restrained dealer. Letting the market come to him, with regard to Beltran, looks like it will pay off nicely. But he was also left holding Reyes at the deadline last year, and we ended up with... what? Plawecki and Reynolds? Plawecki and the unsigned Stankiewicz? And whatever productivity they got out of Reyes the last two months.
  4. It's true. No one's perfect. I can ask him not to not fall behind. I can ask him to not walk the leadoff guy. I can ask him to take that 100-MPH heat and pitch inside on occasion.
  5. So, any predictions on who we've seen the last Metly act from?
  6. Sorry. I really turded out during the losing streak. Disenchantment certainly, but my life also got complicated.
  7. Parnell has been victimized by Parnell often enough as well.
  8. True enough. But the "You're better than this, you've proven it, and we all know it" thing is true of all of our relievers. Yet here we are.
  9. He'd add ten homers to his total before the season was over.
  10. Any reports on what Terry said to Acosta when he went out in the tenth? Howie said he was airing Manny out.
  11. Far be it for me to suggest that baseball broadcasting should solely be the province of sonorous baritones, but to my ears, it's when Waldman opens her mouth that this scene goes from goofy but innocuous to gratingly offputting.
  12. How about the came coming down to Valdy in center twice going back to catch deep flies with his back to the wall? Lub-dub. Lub-dub.
  13. Yeah, walking Belt is one of those moves I make in a tabletop dice game, but not in weal wife.
  14. Twelve out of first as the deadline comes. Eight and a half off the wild card. Winners (ugly winners but winners) of three of the last five, which convinces almost nobody that the ship is righted. A lot of teams in between, too, leaving 'em 34 1/2 net games off the card. Hoping that San Francisco has caught the Mets freefall disease.
  15. Angel getting himself hurt in a war of attrition was quite the gift to his old team. Torres almost paid him back for it.
  16. Tenth inning and two out last night. Tying run on second, and the go-ahead on first. Brandon "Good, Stiff" Belt is up, with the pitcher on deck, and no pinch-hitters available. In fact, the team's best hitting pitcher --- Matt "Adam Raised a" Cain --- has already been burned as a pinch-runner. Belt's rarely knocked anybody out at this level, but he's a major league hitter, and considered to have the talent to succeed. Do you pitch to him, or walk him, putting the tying run on third, and the winning run on second. Yeah, you go from a pro to an amateur at the plate, which is no small thing, but you also (a) make the tying run something that needs a long single or an extra-base hit to score, to one that score on anything, including a walk or a hit batsman, ( put the winning run in the former position, and © leave the likes of Acosta and Johnson working without a net with regards to a pitch bouncing to the backstop. What do you do? What DO you DO?

"The damn thing is over" was an exclamation once uttered by Bob Murphy at the end of another game the Mets won despite going to incredible lengths to give it away. "Goodnight, Ladies" is a nineteenth-century minstrel song. Not questioning the manhood of any of my masculine fellow posters or the players on the team. But I guess you read this post before learning of the ultimate result, which would have made my 2 AM nonsense even more cryptic-sounding. Sorry about that.
  18. Haven't thought much about Rainy recently, have you? Well, guess who struck out 10 batters for Brooklyn tonight? Second time this year, becoming the third pitcher in Cyclones history to reach double digits in strikeouts twice in a year.
  19. Damn. Thing. Over. Goodnight, ladies.
  20. Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
  21. Let's. Wrap. This. Up.
