  1. I'd like to thank David Wright, for bringing his wildly enthusiastic A game to Memphis.
  2. Concur on the border. A BIG downside of the black hat was the orange shadow framing the blue insignia. Borders are for collies. Orange looks great against black, and it looks great against royal.
  3. Ty Wigginton fans, time to get excited.
  4. Wouldn't that be something? I almost read right past that. Almost.
  5. Yeah, that was an interesting answer. Stewart was Stewart, Stewart, Stewart.
  6. "Scott, let's be honest. You've thrown your last ball from behind the plate." --- Brad Pitt version of Billy Beane They didn't convert him to first to improve his value. They did it to salvage what value they could. He was through as a catcher.
  7. This is my wife's favorite thread. Funny to read my travelogue of our trip to Cooperstown and Bingo with all the image links busted.
  8. That's a great find. Forum was still hopping as recently as 2011. We can do it again!

Referencing Elijah Dukes as having the wrong attitude is a little understated, no?
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: Farmer Ted wrote: Dan Haren to the Nats. That's a helluva 5th starter, even if he is coming off an off year. 1 year deal, $13 mils. Essentially replaces Edwin Jackson and sits behind Strasburg, Zimmermannnnn, Detwiler & Gonzalez even though he'll make more dough than all of them. That's also a team that kept legit big-league starters John Lannan and Zach Duke cooling their heels in Syracuse all of last year. Zuke just re-upped with them yesterday only to see himself knocked back down the depth charts in under 24 hours.
  11. Oh, you're not.
  12. Is that Lenny's mom?
  13. Physical passed.
  14. David. Sandy. PDP, perhaps the next GM. Steve Phillips, the GM who drafted and signed him. Jim Duquette, the GM who promoted him to the big leagues. Omar Minaya, the GM who signed him to his last deal, still currently active. The Trust: Fred, Saul, and Jeff, just to make clear that not everything can be fun. Terry, to speak prolifically and poetically about what David means to him personally. Elisa and Rhon Wright, proud parents. His three brothers, to underscore that they are relative failures. For we all are relative failures. Molly Beers, to get the tabloids waggin'. Basically, I'm looking for about a hundred people on the dais, some real over-the-top stuff... Joe McEwing and Cliff Floyd, early MLB mentors. Piazza, Staub, Mookie, and Seaver, brand ambassadors. Gary, Keith, and Ron, because they need to talk a lot about this day next year. (OE: Not to be a tv snob: Rose and Lewin, too. And Kiner, Ojeda, Burkhardt, Coleman, Alicea, and Jiminez.) Jon Olerud and Steve Henderson, because number five is officially dead as an option for any Met going forward. Bring in Ed Charles, also, and they can have an official Goodbye Five ceremony. Dave Johnson may be otherwise occupied. Michael Bloomberg, Andrew Cuomo, and Chris Christie, come on down. Great day for all your citizens. Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, What'shiskingofqueensname. You guys bring the funny. Cal Ripken, Chipper Jones, Mike Schmidt, George Brett, because great thirdbasemen who stick with one organization their whole careers are cool. Adrian Beltre, not so much. Jeromy Burnitz, his idol in Norfolk. Joey Cora, his first pro manager. Nick Boothe, the college coach he worked out with in high school. Unless there's something creepy about that. Then no. Mike Hampton, who made this day possible. Invite the superintendent of Denver schools, too. How hard is it to throw these things together? OE: Mr. Met! Duh!
  15. That's a silly angle to play if it were true, and it's not.
  16. In The Lady in the Water, M. Night Whatshisface tells the tale of Naiad, who arises from the water to inspire a writer to publish his views --- to tell him that his writings are so substantive that they will inspire a future leader to usher in a new era of peace and progress and harmony. That writer was, of course, played by M. Nightienight Himself. I thought, well, there you have it. I thought no picture could feature more self-aggrandizement from an auteur than Braveheart, but M. Night topped it. Well, Ruby Sparks tops that. This unfunny comedy is embarrassing, tedious, mean-spirited, and filled with belief by young artists in their own brilliance --- to be borne, of course, as a burden. The thoroughly unlikable protagonist is crippled by the pressure of his early success and it's near impossible to not see him as something a stand-in for co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine). His supposedly wonderfully quirky but adorable Galatea won't take long to relate to screenwriter Zoe Kazan, because she's played by... screenwriter Zoe Kazan! There's also the problem Gus Van Sant ran into in Finding Forrester where it becomes problematic to make a film about a supposedly brilliant young writer when your screenplay can't provide a few instances of convincingly brilliant writing. The film is set in and around the writer's boring home. What they don't steal from Stranger than Fiction, they steal from other movies. I couldn't finish it. My wife fast-forwarded to see how things turn out and we just got to watch the writer be crueler and crueler to the woman he created. What is wrong with these people?
  17. Wow. A hat tip from the man and a comparison to C.S. Lewis.
  18. I think the Mets are on the brink of success. How precipitous that brink is, that's a question for Alderson to wrestle with. But I think his real issue is that his funds are too limited and veteran pitching too risky, not that his team is too weak to justify re-signing an all-star.
  19. Whoah. Nashville. Way to stick it up Dickey's ass.
  20. Hall of famer Deacon White wants to know if you want more starch for your shirt.
  21. So, I haven't read the morning papes... his bloodwork come back OK? We having a press conference today or what?
  22. Yeah, mebbe. I tend to place guys on the 40 higher on the depth chart than guys who ain't. But sometimes that's transparently just not the way it is. I'll add Bixler on the next update, and then kick him out as soon as the Mets start addressing their outfield situation.
  23. Wow. Leniency. Wesley Snipes should be so lucky as to get that judge.
  24. Coincidentally, topping Beisbol America's Boston Red Sox Prospect List.
  25. Rumors have the Mets talking with Boston and interested in outfielder Jackie Bradley and shortstop Xander Boegaerts. My Daddy always told me that if somebody offers you a Xander Boegaerts, you take it.
