  1. I think the notion that the Mets rush their prospects if overstated, and most of the evidence supporting it is left over from the Minaya/Bernazard era.
  2. The Mets management spoke evil about Dickey?
  3. [youtube:3k17wmh4]NC3SPz8eZkM[/youtube:3k17wmh4]
  4. I hoped you traded the pen after the game. I find in this game that backup infielders who show any utility make great trade chips.
  5. Maybe it's the whole Connecticut thing --- it most definitely is, in part --- but I've got no stomach for reading about any trades of any R.A. Dickeys.
  6. Just tripped over him while I was skimming the wire.
  7. An old buddy.
  8. It certainly would, as it sure seems to be under market. And even if Dickey gets the full two years, $26 million, he should ask for and would probably deserve a no-trade clause.
  9. Tweetin' Ken Rosenthal wrote: All signs point to #Mets trading Dickey. Little progress with extension, 1 yr./$5M looks more attractive by the day. #Rangers still in mix. Don't know what to make of that. Clarity is tough in the number of characters you get for a tweet, but if "all" signs point to a trade, how is the $5 million looking more attractive? To Dickey? To the Mets? To the Cardinals?
  10. Went for a four-letter today. I got FVYJ. I was puzzled for a moment before recognizing it. Factored Value of Youthful Judgment: The plus-minus figure added to a player's value on the trade market in light of reports of his bahavior during his developmental years. Who cares about Valdespin missing two weeks of at-bats in Caracas? The real effect of his winter suspension is its impact on on his FVYJ, It was already down in Alhaji Turay territory, but now it's careening toward Brien Taylor and Josh Hamilton. All-time FVYJ legends.
  11. We sure are losin' players faster than we're gainin' 'em this offseason. Acosta: good strikeout pitcher who nonetheless seemingly had trouble bearing down. Retained a lot more faith from the Mets than he ever earned. Could be as good as any pitcher in the pen for weeks at a time. The same could be said of almost any of them, of course, but when he wasn't right, whoo boy, powderkeg. Manny Acosta, I raise my glass to you and the multiple hairstyles you brought to the cause:. The Close Crop: The Natural: The Octopus: Like Dillon Gee, he also sported the occasional furry merkin, God bless him. Why should goofball Caucasoids have all the fun with that? Manny, I hope you're the biggest thing to hit Japan since the Spice Girls reunion.
  12. Boom. I had just dropped Lewis quietly from the photo array after realizing I had kept him in after he signed with the Carp weeks ago. 13. It's funny how I came to that. I thought, "Maybe their criteria isn't favorable to what Rickey was, but... surely any reasonable criteria would say he was better than Gl@v!ne... and Carter... and Snider and Piazza and Alomar and Murray... ." I went all the way up to Pedro and was still incapable of making a reasonable argument why Pedro could be seen as better. Nolie that high is still a small surprise.
  14. Rickey Henderson? Nolan Ryan? Don Zimmer?
  15. Angels deny Bourjos/Trumbo-Dickey proposal.
  16. The Phillies were in on Hambone at the end, so... bullet dodged.
  17. It'd be kinda like trading Seaver all over, but only getting Steve Henderson and Dan Norman.
  18. I probably agree. Anybody else?
  19. Damn. Some of these have a real analytical utility.
  20. Josh Hamilton's no angel No, Josh is no stranger to the streets Josh got his label So Josh won't crumble at your feet And Josh knows, baby So Josh got scars upon his cheek And Josh's half crazy Come on and love Josh, baby So you find Josh hard to handle, well... 21. You like it as described? A slugger without a position who doesn't walk, and a glove-first centerfielder. Both still have time to improve. This deal would really shore the team up, but neither is a game-changing talent.
  22. JLC: Juggles Lost at Catcher Posada was a good hitting catcher but he led the league in JLC eight times in 10 years. I swear every time I went to the park he dropped about three foul tips that shoulda been strike three.
  23. That would make them instant favorites in my book.
  24. Noted earlier, but 56 returns to San Francisco. Wounded on opening day and never got untracked here. Opened the door for Kirk, which was really cool, and then it really wasn't. As flaccid a season as he had, by all rights, he should be the top 56 in Mets history, but I'm surprised to see we've had eight players wear LT's number, with Brian McRae probably the best.
  25. Ozzie Smith was quite the Guzzler.
