  2. A little of both is necessary, though. A buzz that brings a promise of an event and the team absolutely delivering on that promise. I dunno, Friday night, back from a road trip, division rival, aces matching up, division rival is the defending champ, Davey Johnson in the opposing dugout, a legend like Gooden in the house, and the team utterly dominates, with just enough drama in the seventh to make it exciting, before absolutely pulling away. All the key bats contribute. The slumbering slugger wakes up. A goofy but harmless thing like Marlon Byrd heading to first on ball three. Good news coming in from outside the park. You can't deliver on the buzz any better. Mets = America
  3. Kinda crazy, but I got the notion that Citi Field was (finally) truly established tonight as the Mets' home, in a way that not even the no-hitter did.
  4. Thanks so much. Wow, this is a heckuva game I'm not seeing.
  5. Twenty-first career Met triple for Wright, one behind Mazzilli for eleventh all-time. Hey Zvon, do you have an original on this ol' avatar of mine? Looks like Ryan and Koos have lost some of their calves in my touchup work. Hey, it's 6-1! (Or 3-1 if you're Ashie.)

Life is so cruel sometimes. Kinda kool listening on the radio though. At least I could hear it. He sounds better than most guys look. Sucks, but welcome to my world.
  7. That was Denard Span, Newtown Truther making that last out.
  8. Josh Lewin: It's the first time in the life of this guy (Strassburg) that he's not been the featured attraction... high school, college, the minors...
  9. Honron![/bigpurple] Suck it, Strasburg. We've got two lefty sluggers in this lineup.
  10. Honron![/bigpurple] It's 3-0, Mets! (Or 2-0 if you're Ashie.)
  11. metirish wrote: Ron with a great little nugget about Tom Gorman and how he used to shake of Carter, they used to call him Gorfax because he liked to talk up his own game like he was Koufax, " ok Gary, this is for a fastball, this is the sign for a slider, yyybbb", "just throw it Tom,I'll catch it". In If at First, Hernandez wrote that they called him Gorfax because he was as slow as Koufax was fast.
  12. Howie Rose is right about Dwight Gooden being right. This guy is the real deal.
  13. Would really like to build on this lead. Never comfortable going up against Davey Johnson in a tight endgame.
  14. I'm blacked out and very pissed.
  15. Report has eight weeks and no surgery for d'Arnaud. So I guess we're looking at a minimum of four months, possibly the season, what with the strong possibility of surgery and all.
  16. Merge completed, Professor Brundlefly. Anybody at the game, try and get some shots of the fire damage. Lay you even money that there's a "Sweet Caroline" singalong tonight. (And again, I'd prefer me some "Dirty Water.")
  17. Yeah, I was really put of by him that first year. I wondered if my warming to him in the Mets booth was just my bias coming through, but he would go on to say that, yeah, he really didn't have it together or anything of merit to say. I feel now like he's the kid who does his homework, and searches for angels, who keeps the smarter but less fully engaged Keith Hernandez on top of his game, the way McCarver did for Kiner.
  18. I'm calling BS on the mailbox thing.
  19. And, of course, former Met and former Expo counts both John Adams and John Q. Adams as ancestors.
  20. Reminds me of a song that's different from the one that opened this thread. [youtube:1ruhbvho]9WWHdBuOC6Q[/youtube:1ruhbvho]
  21. Former Mets in DC: Intrepid skipper Davey Johnson, of course. Maybe some others. I got shit to do. Former Nats in Flushing: Um, none? Prediction: Mets sweep. Duh. I'll take this one. Nats, it's true, have no former Mets in uniform, but... Former Mets superscout/diversity director Bill Singer is their scouting director. Pre-game and post-game analysis continues to come from Game Six hero Ray Knight. Speaking of announcers: Mets announcer Ron Darling was traded to the Expos for Tim Burke in one of the all-time awesome trades. Marlon Byrd spent two years with the Nats (their inaugural years, in fact --- 2005--2006). And he wasn't good for 'em, neither. Dan Warthen had himself a rough ride with the Expos in the mid-seventies. Bullpen catcher Eric Langill began his career as an Expo prospect.
