  1. I tell you, give this guy a little run support, let him pitch his game, and he's a better pitcher than you've been seeing. (Also, let him start against the Sox as often as possible.)
  2. And Comiskey II is crapping double plays tonight.
  3. Speaking of unsustainable levels, I'm Eric Young, and I got hits coming out of my pores. I weep base hits by night, and I fart a few more in the morning.
  4. Hear that, Frayed Knot? He said "Avenue of the Americas." I'm telling you, give it another 70 years and this Koch Bridge thingie might catch on.
  5. Buck's got that veteran catcher thing that LoDuca had, a sort of bearing like he's the un-named captain whenever he feels like it. On the other hand, Byrd is June's Buck, hitting at a level that nobody's convinced is sustainable, but Terry's gonna run him out there until he crashes to earth.
  6. I suck monkey balls. Monkey balls!
  7. Cutie-pie young women still in the front row, chowing down on corn dogs and not realizing they're turning into shlubs just like the poor guy they embarrassed out of their seats. I'm starting to notice that Byrd tends to tap his heart with his right hand before each at-bat.
  8. Was just staring a shlub in row one who was in focus behind the dugout for every righty in our righty heavy lineup. Just as I'm thinking, "How does that shlub get those seats?" two cutie-pie young woman walk down the aisle, look at him, look at their tickets, than look from one to the other in the classic "I don't want to say you're in our seats, but you're in our seats," manner.
  9. Sox pbp guy pronounces Satin's name like he's the Evil One.
  10. Marcum gets a perfect inning in the first and strikes out a couple.
  11. Terry said he got 10 or 11 texts from colleagues suggesting that Wheels was tipping his breaking pitches.
  12. Battle of pitchers hungry for wins. Chicago's John Danks is 1-4 with a 5.40 ERA. New York's Shaun Marcum is 0-9 wiht a 5.76 ERA. That's one dream-ass matchup, my friends. Make sure you post in the right thread. This is the right thread, isn't it?
  13. It sure is, especially when you haven't been able to go for a few days.
  14. I'm feeling good about my pre-dic-shun too. Edgy MD wrote: If Brown's name doesn't come up, I expect that will be because the season is going surprisingly well. He's our best bet for righthanded thump in the outfield. That said, he's currently lunching with Mike Baxter on the terrace of the I'm Having a Mortifyingly Bad Spring Club. .233 / .304 / .429 // .733 in 188 plate apps. Poor spring leads to him spending more time in Las Vegas where he terrorizes opponents like the giant toddler in Honey, I Blew Up the Kid.
  15. Has it become standard practice to have the managers come from the pantheon of the hosting team? Have any Futures Game managers ever become big league skippers?
  16. It may be a standard part of the font package. Lower-case letters rendered as small caps without the spike in the middle.
  17. Your managers for the Futures Game at CitiField, MLB champion New York Met William Hayward "Mookie" Wilson running the US squad and NL champion New York Met Edgardo Antonio "Fonzie" Alfonzo skippering the world squad. Mets will be represented by two dudes they hope to soon see joining Matt Harvey and Dan Wheeler in the big league rotation: Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero. The two are kind of following each other up the chain with Syndergaard promoted to Binghamton shortly after Montero was elevated to Las Vegas... itself a promotion necessitated in part by the progression of Wheeler from the PCL to the Mets.
  18. Eastern League All-Stars: Allan Dykstra, Josh Rodriguez, Cesar Puello, Logan Verrett, Jeff Walters.
  19. It certainly is. Listen, I saw him first. That's all there is to it.
  20. Hey, now I'm reading something...

That's exactly what we're doing. At least me and Vic, anyways. I mean, my expectations for Zack Wheeler aren't the same as for Colin McHugh. Well, I dunno, Vic's seemingly explicitly saying anything short of front-of-the-rotation productivity for a decade is a disappointment. I'll take it a little at a time and go from there. Quality pitching is so ephemeral. I don't build expectations about one single guy, but rather the process. You've got to develop piles of quality, see what shakes out, and keep the process renewable.
  22. On the other hand, nobody this side of Seaver and Gooden have given the Mets a decade as a front-of-the-rotation starter, so... adjust expectations accordingly. Too much chance involved. That said, I had no idea Mike Pelfrey had formally changed his name. How sad.
  23. What worked in Atlanta didn't really work. Putting guys on base with walks and digging yourself out is unsustainable. And when you finally have to come in on a guy when you're behind, he's sooner or later going to park the ball, like Flowers did. And if any if Warthan has anything to do with there being nobody on base at the time, then credit to Warthan. As for what I think of the guy's performance apart from strategy, he's got good velocity, great movement, and not a lot of control. Whether he's wild out of the strike zone or wild in, he needs a better idea of where it's going. It'll maybe be interesting to see if he draws Recker as his catcher more often going forward. Or maybe d'Arnaud.
  24. That's the thing. They're big. And they're full. But they're not bushy. It's like he inked those babies in.
