  1. A 0.51 ERA is a nice piece of armour with which to gird my loins. Now for a weapon with which to slay my foe... .
  2. Man, I'd say it's a good time to take on the Braves, but they may actually improve. Little remembered, but in the same game that Beltran and Kablammeron collided, Cliff Floyd got hurt too when he dove and got some system-shock. Rather than put an infielder in for him, Willie Randolph stalled the game while Cliff collected his marbles, but he was clearly dragging his ass through the rest of the game. The season seemingly ended that day, though the next day featured Victor Diaz substituting in right and homering twice.
  3. Every closer in baseball is just one letter away from being a loser. Whether that notion should be used to trade high on one who is succeeding or cling closely to him, I'm not sure, but I am positively Washingtonian in my fear of getting entangled in a long-term alliance with a free-gent closer.
  4. Twenty bounce game winner We'll get 'em tomorrow.
  5. Looks like a slow motion to the plate for Germen. Good move to first, but looks steal-on-able.
  6. Getting off the pine is number nine fifty-nine, Gonzalez Germen, #71 on your scorecards. Facing three-four-five in the Pirates lineup with the game on the line. No ideal debut scenario.
  7. Andrew Brown, shut the game down.
  8. Mets don't have the hearte to face Marte.
  9. Morris sure has a violent motion.
  10. You need to get through one more series before the All Star Break, and in so doing, you buy Jeter a week's worth of rehab and game action in the minors, after nine months off, and they couldn't manage in that time to go with some stooge off the waiver wire or a shmoe from AAA at DH? Heck, they couldn't have blown minds by signing Manny Ramirez. Released him minutes after the All-Star Break. He'd probably hit like hell for a week just because.
  11. So rushing him back before the All-Star break, with his rehab unfinished, and with zero complete games in the minors --- not looking bright.

  13. The odds of a 38-year-old starting pitcher of an athlete, in a league with a comprehensive drug testing policy, repeating are even weaker.
  14. Flores had an Alfonzan day yesterday, going 4-5 with two homers and a double. Over his last three games, he's 8-15 with three doubles and those two homers. He's leading the league in RBI, with six more than the next closest guy, and in the Pacific Coast League, you'd think the RBI champ would be a big league vet.
  15. I don't know what the answer is, but I think it's over-simplistic to suggest that what's missing from his effectiveness can be found in those missing two MPH. He throws his knuckler at multiple speeds, and difference may be a matter of choice, rather than failure.
  16. Castellano seems like a guy wiithout a position to me, gravitating like Wilmer Flores toward 1B/DH, with a bat that would look good any other place but there. I like that he seemed to have lost his batting eye in 2012, and then found it again this year.
  17. David Wright hatefest narrowly averted.
  18. Yes.
  19. Can you please stop with the condescending bullshit now? Please? I tried very, very hard to explain why that conclusion doesn't hold. It doesn't.
  20. You know, for all the Mets' oufield problems, the Braves, since the end of their run at the top of the East, have seemingly rebuilt their outfield a half dozen times, but the coin keeps coming up tails.
  21. If we don't get Lyle Overbay for him, I'd totally be pissed.
  22. What kind of nonsense play was that? Is there a no-sliding rule for the All-Star Game?
