  1. "I been studying the tapes real closely and i'ts amazing how out-of-whack my motion has been. I worked on it with my dad/high-school coach/former major league star who wasn't doing anything else and I almost immediate added three miles an hour to my fastball. Can't wait to let this rip in a game."
  2. Kernan's report actually reads like he has two distinct Mets inside sources, one telling 'em Tejada looks the same (whatev), and another speculating on Drew.
  3. By the way, unless the guy is, well, a pathological liar, or a total asshole, I totally buy in on every one of these pronouncements at least a little bit. If nothing else, it lays the groundwork for the narrative of each of their seasons, which feeds the narrative of the team's season, which feeds the narrative of the history of the team.
  4. "This new team I'm on now is being clear about my role. That other team was just a bad situation." "I'm not kidding. This is the best bunch of guys I've ever played with. Everything is just... looser. We're not fighting ourselves. Don't get me wrong --- it's still professional." "Now that I'm married/I have have a kid/lost my grandma, it's giving me a new perspective. Baseball isn't the most important thing anymore. Which is totally going to make me a better baseball player." "I have a new workout regimen. Now I don't concentrate on just upper-body strength, but overall awesomenesszz. I can't wait to put this nu body into action."
  5. The thing is, when you talk for a while, you circle around a point and end up underscoring it more than you should when you think you've settled on a thesis that works. Ike may have started out talking about how the strain was hurting him much of the year, and may have felt like Pumarama was lapping it up. He may not have started out saying it was the whole year, and in retrospect, 2/3 of the year can seem like the whole season, so, OOPS!, he must've said the whole season at some point. Because I really think Puma wouldn't have put I had an oblique injury for the whole season, basically, in quotes unless he had Davis recorded.
  6. I think it does help the player's cause. It denies not one, but potentially two teams of compensatory draft picks, and it underscores an extreme situation that a handful of players found themselves to be in due to little fault of their own (possibly by being a little bit too good), therefore strengthening the resolve of the players union to push further against free agent compensation. And if multiple players shoot for that loophole together, well shoot, that's solidarity, and the teams can't ignore them all for long. I mean, once upon a time, you'd've thought that the guy that was needlessly shooting himself in the foot in a fit of obstinacy was Curt Flood.
  7. Yes, of course. But I'm stating that this doesn't seem to necessarily provide the umpire with clearer guidance. The typical collision to me occurs where a runner in his natural path hits a catcher in his way with possession of the ball. That would seemingly still legally occur under these rules.
  8. The question remains, what happens to the catcher who places his body (or left leg) in the runner's path and he receives the ball an instant before the arrival of the runner, absorbing the collision as he brings the glove around to make the tag? This is the general strategy of the plate-blocking catcher to me. Technically he has the ball at the point of interference, and it doesn't seem particularly less illegal under that language than it had been.
  9. Chase D'Arnaud DFA'd by Pittsburgh.
  10. I am not much of a fan Al Franken, and like most, I shake my head at virtually any film developed as an extension of a Saturday Night Live skit (including Wayne's World), but I have huge soft spot for Stuart Saves His Family.
  11. Documentary about the competitive field of Irish stepdancing visits several countries to follow many competitors (including some with few cultural ties to Ireland) as they prepare for that year's world finals in Glascow.
  12. Boras is suggesting that Drew and others might sit out until June, which would certainly cost the players munny and a part of their legacies, but could be a big blow against what's left of the compensation system.
  13. I didn't see it as a bad swing leading to bad judgment, but vice-versa. But I guess when you fall as low as he fell, it all feeds off of itself.
  14. It's all good. This could make for some good spring training duh-rama. [fimg=400]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3c/Mike-and-Ike-Box-Small.jpg[/fimg] [fimg=150]http://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/mike-puma.png[/fimg][fimg=200]https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRFExgegklbbnyi5LNBz9YtFzxa_q8AVA-XbhdfGnV6G2Pws9i2[/fimg] I like this in the context of Alec Baldwin's I'm-Done-with-the-Media article in New York Magazine. As if they turned him into a raving lunatic.
  15. Nice Synderfoorm.
  16. However you look at that, you have to take it along with 2012, when he insisted that he wasn't bothered by the valley fever, until he showed up in camp in 2013, and it was, "Oh, yeah, the valley fever had me wiped out."
  17. Which one of you is shitting Ashie? I'm having trouble gleaning what your complaint is. Given 20 minutes, I'm sure I could find 10 All Stars who began their third year of pro ball in high A. This is the way things work.
  18. I love Ashie's post so much I've already embroidered it on a pillow.
  19. And the corps would have been so supportive if the team held their outfield money until February and let the market come down to them. You know they would have because they're being so supportive of the Mets taking that tack with regards to Drew. To be fair, it's not that writers are whiny, it's that a whole lot of them know no better way to generate readership than to suck up to whiny fans.
  20. So, Heyman's report that the Mets offered Drew one year at $9.5 million, which Rubin reported as "ain't happenin'" may be a little bit less not happenin'.
  21. I ran into a glitch like that two or three times in two or three seasons. Only way I've thought of to deal with it is to leave the game open and the computer unplugged and force it to crash without saving. Still think we should do a forum league.
  22. Fusion. Conflation.
  23. No, it's been announced that he is hosting the pre-game/post-game summaries. This would appear to be different programming.
  24. Nice of her to pose while visiting the Yankee Clubhouse.
  25. You know, the WFAN and the Mets knew they weren't bringing Wayne Hagin back, and Hagin for his part said he didn't want to come back, but the announcement that Lewin was hired didn't come until mid-February. So maybe this is just how things get done, especially for a new outlet.
