  1. I'd add a successful hidden-ball trick. Is a homerun pullback still exotic enough to work on this list? What used to be a once-every-few-years rarity that hasn't happened in about 50 years: the courtesy runner. Don't know if the rules still allow for it. Probably not.
  2. Two thirds of a perfect game after a two-hour delay pitched by a 41-year-old bartender --- that's something, there.
  3. I also wouldn't recommend batting Colon ninth regularly. You probably want to use a rotation in that spot.
  4. So, if I'm a hearing you right, tonight and for the time being, you go: [*:33ok841j]Flores, ss[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Murphy, 2b[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Wright, 3b[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Duda, 1b[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Abreu, rf[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Teagarden, c[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Young, lf[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]den Dekker, cf[/*:m:33ok841j] [*:33ok841j]Colon, sp[/*:m:33ok841j][/list:o:33ok841j] And you alternate den Dekker and Brown as needed, but leave Youngster alone, except for swinging him between left and center, and 9) re-evaluate the outfield situation as people come of the DL, and re-evaluate shortstop after after starting Flores eight of the next 10 games or so. Meanwhile, keep trying to swing a deal for some offense. Is that right?
  5. So, we need a plan for Chris Young. It may be too late to redeem his season, but it's not too late to keep him from damaging the team's season any further. He didn't do as bad as the community during the Brewer series, but that's not saysing a whole lot. He's got to see at least some time, at least until the wounded outfielders start returning, but as was noted in yesterdays inny-gamey, he ought to be kept back in the seventh and eighth slots until he digs his way out or completely plays himself off the team.
  6. Reading about the minor leagues, it seems that, beyond Leathersich, Chipotle is growing into quite the thing among the grinders in the bushes --- perhaps with prime locations in the strip malls of America's small-to-mid-sized cities, price points perfectly aligned to get the most calories-per-dollar out of a minor league per diem, and a chance to gleefully murder a fartfest of a meal at the same time.
  7. A leadership change may well be a-brew, but Wallace isn't the only candidate. No doubt many desire a team that reflects Wally's reputation fire. If fire gets Flores to rip that first fastball into the gap, instead of tapping out to first on the slider away, I'm all for it.
  8. If I'm reading the roster right this is The Human Pain Display, Mike Hargrove, rescuing Burroughs with his fists of fury.
  9. The Mets new MLBPA rep, the job almost nobody wants and, if recent history indicates anything, typically goes to pre-arbitration players barely established in the bigs, is... Matt F. Harvey. Great job by Kristie Ackert getting a money quote of, "He is not afraid to say what he thinks," from a player who didn't want to be quoted by name. Somebody write to him about the first responder hats NOW!!!!

None of those other things are going to happen for the same reason they're not playing Flores every day. Anybody else think I was serious about Allan Dykstra?

  12. Tejada isn't really the problem. But he's a problem. Right now, the problems run all over the diamond. Shortstop perhaps is a greater opportunity to find an answer that can impact the team's fate going forward.
  13. I'm ready to try Dykstra there. I've lived with Turner's lousy defense there, I can live anybody's. I can't remember who the quote was from. Something like "You can shake a tree and 20 glove guys fall out. Hitting is what makes you a big leaguer." That's where I'm at.
  14. Anybody have any taste for seeing if that .418 ObP of Seratelli has any big league applicablity? I guess it's not particularly sensible to reach for him if they haven't really pumped Wilmer out there for a week or so.
  15. Laggy really bit the big one with the bases loaded there, taking a fastball over the heart of the plate for strike one, and then tapping out to the drawn-in infield on the slider away.
  16. Eric Young is on rehab assignment, going 2-5 in his first game with St. Lucie. He is eligible for activation and should be back shortly. Lagares, if ready, is eligible to activated in time for Tuesday in St. Louis. More grass for the mower, the way things are going.
  17. I was thinking they have to try something with regard to Young, but it's not like he's the worst thing they've got going. The arms are ready before the bats are. We knew that was how things were unfolding, but didn't quite know it would be this stark. It's scarcely noticeable, because the distinctions between starters and reserves are so blurred, but their three "starting" outfielders --- that is, those who've gotten the plurality of the team's outfield starts --- were all down with injuries last night.
  18. They all go down hacking. Like suckers.
  19. Should be taking a strike, Wrighty. He's still K-Rod.
  20. And we get K-Rod and his big nasty wad of chaw in the bottom of the inning. And nobody to pinch-hit for the pitcher.
  21. Fun to see diving stops in the rain. But the guy can't get up until he slides at least five feet. Still probably had no chance of getting Braun.
  22. [bigpurple:zq9z1fg4]K[/bigpurple:zq9z1fg4] That mitten Segura is wearing is goofy.
