  2. Time to check into the Carlyle.
  3. Don't mess with the cops in Eveland.
  4. Wright would do well to bring about two scoops of redemption to the end of this game.
  5. I like how, on GameDay, when there's a coaching visit to the mound, the batter stands there, assuming his stance in the box.
  6. That's big league baseball right there.
  7. Grandy, time to shine.
  8. The opportunity is at hand.
  9. I certainly didn't mean to suggest this was to be an either/or discussion. Only to point out that they're both similarly vulnerable. They're both similarly under the gun to get thier acts together.
  10. Agreed. When Niese was going well --- not so long ago --- there was no questioning his heart, guts, and gonads. He was lauded as a bulldog.
  11. Orioles the only team with a real lead in their division, though. At least, they were until yielding to the Dickeys this evening. Their lead is down to four.
  12. Gee, Niese didn't have a whole lot tonight.
  13. Murphy says "Thank you" also. Grinds out an at-bat and finds a hole. Little luck, but more than a guy typically has had against Fister. Mets find the scoreboard, finally.
  14. Well, hit it harder after that, but 1-2-3.
  15. Hey, a tap-out!!
  16. Well, I'm Niesed out.
  17. Good point.

    Wrecker

It's hard to imagine Teagarden can't give the team as much as Wreckx-n-Effect. In fact, I'm 75% sure his injury and rehab was all a ruse to get him through a roster pinch. But I doubt they make a change before September 1 unless they acquire somebody in a Youngdump or something. Teaparty always had the same kind of puncher's power that Recker brandishes when he's going well.
  19. The problem with Niese over Gee is a tough track record with regards to healthy healthiness. Intercostal strains. Partially torn rotator cuffs. These things don't tend to work themselves out.
  20. Time to stop tapping out weakly. Time to start submitting to called strikes three. Time to scratch back into this.
  21. Having trouble getting around the thought, with every start by Niese and Gee, that they're pitching for their Mets lives right now. They started the season as the Mets two most reliable starters, but the last month or so, are looking like the two least. A lot of jockeying and injuring will happen between now and next season, but with the pressure coming from below in Montero and Syndergaard and others and the pressure coming from without in Harvey and Hefner, there's going to be some thinning of the herd. If they don't deal off the big man, they are #s five and six in the Mets depth chart, while those below aren't expected to be kept at bay for long. Anyhow, go Niese!
  22. Mets make a move, dealing Savannah pitcher Hunter Carnavale for cash. Mike Axisa, a prospect watcher for CBS sports wrote that this particular pile of cash really flew under the radar and it has a lot of potential that made at least one rival GM surprised that the Mets could land it for the likes of Carnavale. "Mark my word, two-three years down the road, this cash could be a household name. I wouldn't be surprised." [fimg=400]http://sav-cdn.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/superphoto/12123223.jpg[/fimg]

  24. I'm surprised to have provoked a religious reaction. Take it easy, man.
  25. The FO hoped the story never got out the same way they're hoping the Mets'll win the pennant. I think his point was something along the line of, if the Mets were hoping this story didn't get out, he would conclude that would have explicitly compelled their players not to talk about it. While that's not automatic, it's certainly easier than winning the pennant. I myself would guess that the front office didn't think a whole lot about the potential story one way or the other.
