  1. The world needs warehouse pickers too.
  2. I assume we're looking for non-pitchers. Eddie M.
  3. Interesting that the Dodger Stadium tat shows the place empty. It must be based on a photo taken in the seventh inning. WHOAH!
  4. The Scotty Scorps are 4-2 and in second place in the AFL East, a game behind the Salt River Rafters. Brandon Nimmo has played four of those six games (probably the four they won), and instead of living up to his walking rep, he's elected to rake instead, going .333/.333/.500//.833. that's three singles and three doubles in 18 at-bats. Yeah, I'll take that. Matt Reynolds has unpacked his lumber too, going .278/.350/.611//.961. That's a .611 slugging percentage, chicks. That's what a double, a triple, and a homer in your first five games will do for you. Missing the memo so far is L.J. Mazzilli, who has played in only two games and gone .167/.375/.167/.542. FREE MAZZILLI!! Julian Hilario: 0.00 ERA in six innings so far. One walk, five K's and a 0.83 WHIP. That's some good fallballin'. Dario Alvarez (5.40 ERA), Rob Whalen (9.00), and Paul Sewald (13.50), not so much.
  5. Mets hitting coach would be a perfect assignment for Brogna. That guy has become the king of short tenures. I'm far less faith that Brogna is a good fit (see what I did there?) for the Mets.
  6. d'Kong76 wrote: Is the point to prove her wrong or you have to know who this Metly gynecologist is? I guess the point would be to connect the dots, and find out perhaps how many dots there are, and so unearth as much Mets color as can possibly be gleaned from this pop culture tidbit. I mean, one person says "Mike Marshall," the next person isn't generally going to come up with that fantastic day he had against the Pirates that kept the Mets alive for one more day in 1990. The next guy is likely going to say, "dated Belinda Carlisle." It's just color, and not even color that painted the Marshall page while he was a Met, but Mets color makes the world brighter.
  7. Omar Minaya, under strong consideration for an unspecified role in the Yankees front office.
  8. Randy Mets minor leaguers I've found: Randy Bobb (1970-1971): catcher Randy Curtis (1991-1993): outfielder Randy Farmer (1991-1993): infielder Randy Fontanez (2011-2014): pitcher, but only 25 Randy Keisler (2004): pitcher, 38 Randy Trapp (1973-1977): third baseman/outfielder, but did pitch one game Randy Warner: (1992-1996): outfielder/first base Still searching. That included any minor Met who played for Shelby, St. Lucie, Syracuse, Victoria, Visalia, Wasau, Williamsport, or Winter Haven.
  9. The Phanatic is alright by me. In fact, I like him double knowing now as I do that the same guy who designed him used up all his talent and went on to sell the misfit Dandy to the Yankees.
  10. The only one I've found is Howdy Groskloss, but he's 108 and dead at the present time.
  11. The eligibility credentials makes it a funny quiz. Those bottom 10 were all decent pitchers. But mostly decent enough to keep floating on, and so look bad by that metric.
  12. And you know, I have to be honest. Bobby Vee was so defeated after 2001 --- the offensive collapse, September 11, the dramatic comeback stifled by the fall to the Braves, and the deepening feud with Phillips --- that 2002 in many ways seems in retrospect to be the first year of Howe era more than the last year of the Vee era. A lot of Howe-era personnel first arrived in 2002 also --- Vaughn, Alomar, Burnitz, Weathers, Wigginton, Bono... .
  13. G-Fafif wrote: The Saunders AB-No RBI record has stayed with me since it was mentioned on a radio broadcast in 1993. Retaining it helped me win a t-shirt at QBC last January ("nobody's ever gonna get this," the guy asking it insisted). Doug had a really good glove...though I suppose he'd have to. D'Amico by all rights but one shouldn't be on any list of RBI-bereft Mets. I attended a game in early 2002 in which Jeff grounded a ball into right with runners on first and third and two out. RBI, right? Not to B.J. Surhoff, who was playing shallow and threw the lumbering pitcher out at first to end the inning. The rare 9-3 putout ensured that the Mets would lose in irritating fashion to the Braves, 2-1, and Big Jeff would someday wind up drifting through a quiz like this. That play may have happened in 2002, but it's so 2003.
  14. Sure. And Kolten was one of those guys pretty much manufactured into a ballplayer by his dad.
  15. Kolten Eckstein.
  16. Oopses.

  18. Most at bats as a Met by a position player without any Met RBI's: 1. Doug Saunders - 67 2. Harry Chiti - 41 3T. Jeff D'Amico - 37 3T. Jimmie Schaffer - 37 5. Wayne Graham - 33 6. Wayne Kirby - 31 7. Mario Ramirez - 24 8. Sandy Alomar, Jr. - 22 9. Fred Lewis - 20 10. Craig Paquette - 19 You may want to add another guy to that list. D'Amico was a starting pitcher. And definitely a guy who qualified for the "Most Wins in a Season by a Met in Excess of 250 Points" sweepstakes. Seems weird that 22, seven relief appearances, and 145 2/3 innings only added up to 37 at-bats for the guy. Who signs off on a card design that's this ugly?
  19. Scottsdale beats Surprise. Extra innings. Two-run homer. Matt Reynolds. You're welcome, America.
  20. And that would put Lindor at the top of the list. Near big league ready and no questions about the defense. But Steamer agrees with me that the offense isn't looking to be ready, and projects 73 games and a 0.7 WAR for 2015. I think we have to be prepared for a return of Flores and/or Tejada to be at least be an option. Or perhaps Flores at second and the shortstop the team gets being a more seasoned dude acquired for one or more of Murphy/Niese/Gee/Colon/Tejada. Because if I'm trading Syndergaard for an unproven young shortstop, he'd better be named Robin Ripken or Ozzie Larkin.

Sid's got this one, even though he's listed at 220. Sure, but given two more starts, Bartolo could've theoretically topped Sid's high of 16. Terry, by the way, has managed 'em both.
  22. Go, Ron Darling!

  25. What shortstop would you trade Syndergaard --- or Syndergaard-plus --- for? The likes of Seagar and Addison Russell aren't big-league ready. Correa is still two steps away and sustained a leg injury which has kept him out since June. Francisco Lindor seems to need some polish too, as his bat isn't there yet. I think signs are pointed away from the team stockpiling prospects and toward graduating them and reinforcing at the big league level. Beyond signs, Alderson has said pretty explicitly that in trades he will be looking for big-league or big-league ready talent.
