Congressman (District 3, NY) Steve Israel, chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, explaining how he approaches last night's news: As a Mets fan, Ive learned to look on the bright side."

This seems to be the Outfield 2015 thread now. There's a lot of Alex Gordon talk a-bubbling. The Royals need pitchers and have a big spacious outfield for low-walk/flyball types like Colon and Montero.

I can think of no better way to mark that retirement than you singing that love song to Ambler in your underwear.

An additional cool thing is that getting three wins of value out of his defense allows him time and reps to develop into a better hitter at the big league level. Carlos Gomez was a weak hitter for five years. Worse than Lagares. Of course, he came up younger. And it's no easy row to hoe to maintain this level of defense for long. So yeah, hit.

Didney synergy is what that is.

Rookie of the Year finalists announced. Jacob deGrom Billy Hamilton Kolten Wong I don't know what this finalist stuff is about, but a big BOOOO!!! from the Familia and d'Arnaud camps.

There's a creepy moment there where the pitcher walks in front of Fisk, but the pitcher's head is hidden by the frame and Fisk's upper torso is not. My brain hurts and my eyes twist out of my head in that moment, as all my understanding of a world that conforms to certain Euclidian laws falls apart.

Feels like one of those Rice Krispies cards that moves when you tilt it. Only, you know, 137 times better.

Wow, we now have three three Mets Gold Glove outfielders. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY JACOB!!

Wait a micron. Yours and mine are the only two actual reviews?

I think you meant to quote my adjacent post. I meant to suggest that the 2015 Topps All-Rookie Team for 2014 could potentially include fwee Mets: d'Arnaud, d'Grom, and d'Familia (though I don't even know if they explicitly set aside a spot on the team for a reliever).

NL Players Choice for the Outstanding Rookie.

Yeah, but Harry Anderson was funny on Night Court, and he had that juggling act going. I like the spirit of the Calhoun proposal. A batter who has already established himself in the bigs but isn't fully realized and may not be the perfect fit on a team that needs young pitching more than young hitting. It would be the modern equivalent of the Terrell/HoJo deal. Now we just need to find our HoJo.

I think right-handed hitters look like better fits right now. Would hate to see the tying run on second and no outs the opposing manager bring in Sean Doolittle or Randy Choate or Jerry Blevins or some chump to dump a bunch of junky curveballs at Duda, Grandy, and Calhoun or somebody.

Jettisonning of Eveland opens up the door for Black to report to spring training with the expectation of his spot to be his to lose. He certainly deserved that. Most obvious remaining incongruity is the dreaded lack of a second lefty in the bullpen, but that should open up if and when one of the excess starters is moved. Then it's Dario vs. Germen vs. Rice vs. One or Two Others in a steel cage death math. Gavin appeared in the 2006 LLWS.

Stanton is reportedly in extension talks with the Marlins. He hits arbitration this offseason and has a second arbitrary year before being eligible for free agency. So it's conceivable that the Marlins could shop him if extension talks aren't fruitful. I'm concerned he may never be the same hitter after his season ended with a pitch to the face.

Cuddyer at 2x20 or even 2x25 is probably palatable --- if not ideal --- to the Mets. I mean, philosophically palatable, if the money is there. Add in a drafty picky, though, and it probably gets a little more complicated. Nick Markakis, call your agent.

Cuddyer gets a qualifying offer.

Sorry to bust your balls. I shouldn't have interrupted when you were on the verge of a hat trick. Good luck quitting the joe.

Ceetar's crushing it on the they're/there/there distinctions today. Like he's a giant Russian hockey player checking English into the boards. Fock yoo, standardized written Eeenglish! I keel you!!

I aint adopting him, because that would be akin to adopting a strapping and powerful 16-year-old a few weeks before his 17th birthday and then demanding he go out and support the family when he turns 17. But the Mets are supposedly very high on him. Considering he's got 68 games at AAA behind him, and the Mets have Wilmer Flores in front of him and Gavin Cecchini behind him (and Amed Rosario behind Cecchini, I wonder if the team will continue to not look outside at shortstop and will instead double down in the outfield with whatever funds they have or make available this offseason.

Ceetar wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Seems that there's a little bit of off-the-record grumbling about the ethics of Maddon (seemingly) ready to jump into a job that's currently occupied. That there are only 30 of these hard to land jobs available, at least some are contending that it's bad form for Maddon to effectively bounce one of his fellow skippers out of the one that he just landed a year ago. Of course he also allowed someone to GET one of those coveted jobs, and one with an arguably better team. That's one way of looking at it. I don't think fellow managers will see it that way.
