  1. You know, you may have asked the same thing about the En'erprise, but JJ was on the case. [fimg=650:rcdejg9a]http://judebgallery.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/img_8178.jpg[/fimg:rcdejg9a]
  2. Until they tell me the Millennium Falcon runs on a Force engine, I would think not.

  4. Rubin just reported on Metly disinterest in Cabrera, who to me, was --- if not obviously better --- at least distinctive enough alternative from Tejada and potentially nettable with a minor league deal. I'm not sure if Gregorius is the sort of upgrade that's worth giving up Jeurys Familia and a guaranteed roster spot. If we're thinking of potentially better, I'm OK coming in low. If we're thinking of obviously better, then where do we look to next? Back to Seattle?
  5. I get the idea that the bloom was off the rose from the Mets point of view. He got measurably out-OPS+'d by Tejada last year (OPS was .001 higher, but in Arizona), and he's the same age and just as out of options. Some guys bring alternatives; some guys just make things more crowded. From my point of view, I tend to irrationally believe anybody who comes up through the Cincinnati system was born to hit, and eventually will, given the chance. But that's silly.
  6. And den Dekker and Nieuwenhuis and Recker. That's what you do to bench guys.
  7. I don't think they are giving up on anybody. It's uncertain whether this reported interest is for a major league deal or a minor league one. But with Eric Young no longer on the squad, the current fifth outfielder is den Dekker and he's certainly done nothing to suggest they needn't bring in competition. I think such a signing would place more fire under his feet than those of Campbell, who would remain leader for title of Sixth-Infielder-Sixth-Outfielder-Third-Catcher Guy.
  8. THE NOTORIOUS GREGORIUS!! A BB BY DIDI!!
  9. MFS62 wrote: If a team wants to rest a player, they can do that now by simply not playing him. Yes, but the concern is that they would need an active body to replace him. MFS62 wrote: Seems this would allow them to replace that player on the 25 man for that week, so that the manager wouldn't be tempted to use the player in a key game situation during that time. That's what's supposedly being proposed, but that's not currently allowed, as the DL has a 15-game minimum. d'Kong76 wrote: How secondary are these sources? HVAC Guy is talking again.
  10. Twittererer says Gregorius has just become a Yankee.
  11. Marc Carig of Nooshday reporting that the Mets are zeroing on John Mayberry and Kyle Blanks. They apparently think that the outfield/firstbase reserve platoon looks stronger from the left side with Nieuwenhuis, den Dekker, and Allen, so they're focusing on right-handed hitters.
  12. Reports are out and about that Sandy Alderson has petitioned MLB for the establishment of a "Rest DL" --- a designation that allows a pitcher (or possibly any other player, depending on which report you buy) who is not explicitly injured to rest for seven days or more. This obviously would be something triggered by their desire to build a sound plan to remain as competitive as possible while not over-using Matt Harvey in his first season back from ligament replacement surgery. Alderson, for his part, denies these reports. Josh Donaldson, upon hearing of the potential rest DL, immediately asked to be placed on it. I'm gleaning this from secondary sources, as I can't access ESP at work.
  13. No doubt it stores absorbed solar/stellar energy.
  14. Too bad. Markakis was quite the Camden Yards folk hero. No me gusto Cobb County. I'm sure they have plenty of perfectly nice people, but they sure seem to lead the nation in political resolutions enacted behind closed doors.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: A couple of LHRs on that list who could be the second man to Josh Edgin. Bueno es bueno.
  16. MLB columnist Phil Rogers praised the move, saying the deal was about loyalty and character. Hunter demonstrated Rogers' point by insulting statistical analysts and calling a reporter a prick at his re-introductory press conference.
  17. Oooh, add Chase d'Arnaud and let the two brothers compete for slots. Should create some real bitter competitive tension in the clubhouse.
  18. Sure, but at what price comes that redundancy? AT WHAT PRICE?!! They've got three or four shortstops of the future right now. Not so clear on the shortstop del presente.
  19. Seems to suggest not-readiness, though, don't it? He'd be behind Matt Reynolds.
  20. Yeah, the world will tell you there's two ways to do this: (1) to be as difficult and uncooperative as possible with Scott, or (2) to make it a cause celebrate to wrap themselves in their own virtue. MLB took the third path: good on them.
  21. The other thing Cabrera would have to do is (a) possibly be willing to come in on a minor league deal with a big league option, and ( outclass anybody else willing to do that.
  22. Oooh, Padres non-tender Everth Cabreara. Right up the Mets alley: [list:3ha2uxu2][*:3ha2uxu2]Plays shortstop.[/*:m:3ha2uxu2] [*:3ha2uxu2]Has had one good season in the five, but it was only 2013.[/*:m:3ha2uxu2] [*:3ha2uxu2]Has an arrest for driving under the influence of pot, so he needs some New York Met-brand redemption.[/*:m:3ha2uxu2] [*:3ha2uxu2]Adds the base stealing juice that they lost by letting EYJ go.[/*:m:3ha2uxu2] [*:3ha2uxu2]Isn't Tejada.[/*:m:3ha2uxu2][/list:u:3ha2uxu2]
  23. Angels got angry. Non-tender went to [list:r6vah2jc][*:r6vah2jc]SS Gordon Beckham (look for him to enter into Metly conversations, despite his lousy OBP)[/*:m:r6vah2jc] [*:r6vah2jc]Wade LeBlanc (mediocre lefthanded swingman)[/*:m:r6vah2jc] [*:r6vah2jc]Yoslan Herrera who, like Schlosser, wasn't even arbitration eligible.[/*:m:r6vah2jc][/list:u:r6vah2jc] Herrera seems like no great shakes, but a perfectly decent --- if wild --- reliever. Gonna be hard for the Mets to shop around pitchers when folks are throwing them away.
  24. Red Sox corner infielder Juan Francisco (not much glove/can't hit lefties/good-not-great stick against righties) non-tenderized. Watch him end up replacing LaRoche in Washington. A's NT ruthless AAAA sluggers Kyle Blanks and Andrew Brown. Both had been DFA'd already. A note on Schlosser up above: He's only got 17.2 innings in a very partial season of big-league ball, and so they weren't forced to make a decision on him. He had options, years of control, some major league experience. What gives? My suspicion is that they have some big transactions brewing, needed some roster space, and hope to bring him back on a minor league deal, and figure that, if they're going to expose him to the free agent marketplace, might as well be while the market is flooded.
  25. Young non-tendered. Mets save some money and gain spots on the both the MLB roster and the 40, which may be just as relevant. Daniel Murphy, Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, Jenrry Mejia, Bobby Parnell, and (surprising to some) Ruben Tejada all received offers. I'm not looking at the full list, but the Braves went nuts, non-tendering: [list:2a1b1azm][*:2a1b1azm]Kris Medlen (10-1, 1.57 in 2012; 15-12, 3.11 in 2013, second Tommy John surgery in 2014),[/*:m:2a1b1azm] [*:2a1b1azm]Brandon Beachy (14-11, 3.23 over parts of four seasons, second Tommy John surgery in 2014), and[/*:m:2a1b1azm] [*:2a1b1azm]Gus Schlosser (nothing to write home about in the bigs so far, but 29-19, 3.11 in the minors.[/*:m:2a1b1azm][/list:u:2a1b1azm] Dump your GM, and then dump all his players. What the hell is this organization up to?
