Mmmm... wait a minute... yuck! Cosby has totally ruined pudding for me.

I think they'll be fine. And I don't think anybody's saying they got to move these guys who suck. And I think they'll even be fine if the end up not moving anybody and going to camp with six starters. Or eight or ten. Winning the off-season is always an illusion. Win the season.

A busy day, and I imagine a heartbreaking one for Paul DePodesta. Perhaps the busiest day of the winter, although at least a little action is yet to come, as the roster is full, so once the ink is dry on Mayberry's contract, they'll have to remove and expose somebody. I have Gilmartin on the projected roster, by virtue of his situation and his handedness (mostly by virtue of his situation). But it's worth observing that he's come out of the pen in only one of his 80 appearances as a professional pitcher. Pitching is pitching, but on-the-job training at the big-league level is no joke. I don't think we understand the meaning of dicktease the same way.

I've got no problem with Tejada being in the shortstop mix. I hope he hits .450.

Claudia (Rente) Cuddyer knows how to take a casserole out of the oven. No luck yet on finding any paramour of Mayberry's, but it seems that he hasn't always had the best of luck himself.

Brows betray the hair. Lots of tatts.

No, I don't think so. It isn't particularly public, but the higher minor league teams have 40-man rosters also. After the major league phase of the draft, there's a AAA draft, for players who've been around for X amount of time and haven't reached the AAA 40-man roster, and then there's the AA phase, for players who've been around for X amount of time and haven't reached the AA 40-man roster. Players taken in these rounds only have to remain as high as the AAA and AA 25-man rosters, respectively. That's my understanding, anyhow.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: How often do Rule 5 players stay with the team that selected them? I remember years ago, they almost always got sent back before the season ended. I sense that that's not so much the case anymore. Probably more often than not, these days. Guys taken in the minor-league portion almost always stay, I would guess.

Baltimore took Logan Verrett. Jerkweeds.

Some tweetin' jerk just wrote wrote: Mets losing Cam Maron, Greg Peavey, Juan Gamboa and Randy Fontanez in Minor League phase of Rule 5. OUCH!

Lync.

Didn't expect the Mets to be active. They're going to have to bump somebody from the roster.

Ceetar wrote: Hits den Dekker harder, I think. den Dekker's a lefty (Though I prefer Nieuwenhuis). One of them probably still mans the bench with Mayberry. Sure, likely Nieuwenhuis, based on options and performance. Ceetar wrote: Depending how you look at it, Flores/Tejada/Murphy up the middle and Recker as the C backup, you've got one more spot that you need to be able to backup 3B, so Campbell might still be okay. Hits den Dekker harder, I think.

The moment is the moment.

The Dodgers are going nuts, aren't they?

I remembered a spot start that included a recovery after a rough first inning. I did not remember it turning into one of the excruciating LaRussa/Manuel let's-bunt-our-way-out-of-any-and-all-rallies wars of attrition. It isn't clear from the IGT, but Carlos Muniz was the bullpen goat.

Agreed about the value of surplus. I imagine the team, however, sees their surplus continuing to come from Montero and Syndergaard. And feels that much redundancy may be too much luxury while run scoring is still a challenge. Pretty cool though. A lot of other teams, and Met teams of the past, would look at their options and feel a lot of pressure to throw Syndergaard in the rotation after a full season of AAA. They go to camp with him as their #8 starter. He was #9 before Hefner went down. Heck, Logan Verrett could also be ahead of him for the moment.

Hmm... I'm still chewing on this. One curious thing is that it has a lot of the same elements as Keaton's only other lead role of the last twenty years, Game 6 burned out playwright wrestling with his desperate need for validation, saucing himself in Broadway watering holes, picking fights with critics, butting heads with an Avenger, watching his rival starting a relationship with his daughter, and a looming specter of handgun violence.

I'm just curious what'll it be. A gen-u-ine starting pitcher is an asset that can usually be counted on to bring back a starting-level offensive player. But the current environment seems to suggest that most teams think they have enough pitching and it's batsmen that are in short supply. Tough market for Sandy to be shopping BarDilloJon. Maybe he gets back the elusive shortstop. Maybe he gets two prospects. Maybe he gets a little salary relief and bupkis else. I guess I'd put my money on the two prospects. I've got no problem with the six-starters-until-the-market-turns plan, but Cashen tried that once and ended up with all his cards at the end of the hand.

Do you think it'll be minor league talent or a living player for the starting pitcher?

Knight was the pilot of this looping biplane of emotional fury.

Well, everybody's a contender if everything goes right. Heck, everybody's a champ if everything goes right. Let's agree that (1) a lot of things will have to go right, (2) fewer things will have to go right than will have had to have gone right last year, and (3) fewer things will have to go right with Tulowitzki on the roster. It's just a question of whether bumping up everything for this year compromises the near future too much. If things go wrong with Tulowitzki, that's a six-year concern. At any rate, I don't see them making a 20% bump in salary for one wounded warrior. I don't know The Plan, but they seem to be very committed to getting the organization at a break-even point before making that sort of investment again. I'd could certainly get behind Tulowitzki, but I'm certainly prepared to see some combination of Flores/Tejada/Reynolds/SomeOtherGuy.
