In my world, closing opportunities will be given to both those guys and and Familia too, and top relievers will be used in tie games and two-inning (or more) stints. And this may help arbitration, as per Brad Johnson. But no, I don't believe they will use less than their best for cost control's sake, but Terry does seem to be leaning Parnellward.

Folks give up on Seo so easily, and he's just getting started. He's like the Wilmer Flores of the forum.

Both signed during Spring Training Eveland on February 17 and Carlyle on February 18. Carlyle debuted May 31, and Eveland on June 2. They both got released on the same day also, natch. For a while there, they made two halves of a pretty effective whole.

That little hobbit carries with him the hopes for all.

Santana setback. Shoulders just don't want to do what pitchers ask them to do. Probably would have hap'd anyhow, but that was one costly no-hitter.

Well, he'd still be caught in the same roster pinch that got him dealt off. I imagine if Texas can't flip him, he still wouldn't clear the waivers necessary to offer him a minor league deal.

There was this game we used to play back in college. Every time Gonzalez Germen got DFA'd, you had to drink a beer.

Look at the first line in that previous post. Poor Zack Thornton looks like the odd guy out in a boy band audition. Meanwhile, time to start reeling in a few more minor league deals, as we raise a glass to the ones we brought in last year, with little more than a shrug, but eventually surprised and became flesh-and-blood Mets, succeeding where Jose Valverde and that big nut Kyle Farnsworth failed. Now we can all go back to pretending that the Mets aren't constrained by their poverty not that money matters anyway and we can root for Flores or Tejada to hold the fort while the Mets kill time until the next wave of young Honus Wagners hits Citi Field. And maybe Wilmer FLores develops into a Honus Wagner himself giving the Mets five instead of four Honus Wagners in the near future. And there you go. Talking to me like I'm a two-year old scoring on the wrong side of the curve on the aptitude tests. Come on. Let's be friends. I have a lot of great things at my house.

I'm not so sure there's such an obvious match there. If the Mets truly are as shortstop-poor as all that, that paucity is projected to be in the short term. In the long term, they look to be potentially graduating four shortstop prospects in the next four seasons. At 19, Monconda doesn't really project to step in and push a team ahead a few games in the standings this year. He certainly could be a teenage wunderkind, stepping in and immediately becoming a core contributor at the big-league level, but that's hardly to be expected. Beyond that, while all agree that he has the footspeed Flores (for instance) lacks, not all the scouts like him at shortstop, and some see him ticketed for second or third. I'm curious about the Segura idea.

Those rules are miserable, aren't they?

Along with Buddy, he was better than we had any right to hope for, but he was something of a left-handed Sisk, walking a ton, but keeping the ball on the ground.

The Mets very first Dana and very first Eveland signs a minor league deal with Boston. Nice little run out of a minor league contract.

Yankees find a way beat Curse of Feliciano, flipping Germen to Texas.

They emailed a newsgroup. Isn't not like they held a press conference. This couldn't have been a softer launch unless they wrote it on looseleaf, crumbled it up, and threw it out the window. It hasn't even been one of the 11 stories on their rotator. Could you imagine them signing the final papers with the Daktronics? >> "OK, is Tuesday good to talk about the marketing of this thing?" >>>> "You know what? Let's just do it and not tell anybody. Everybody hates us." >> "We're trying to get to the top of the industry. We get a contract to build in a New York stadium and you want to keep it a secret?!" >>>> "Trust us. You don't want to be associated with us. It's better this way." >> "You're quite serious?" >>>> "Just check out the Twitter feed on my tablet here." >> "GOOD GOD!!" The only thing major has been the damage to Rogers' poor head.

Sports Bidness Daily just announced that the Yankees have struck a deal with WPIX to broadcast 21 home games a year for the next four years. WPIX, of course, apart from dishing out a generous diet of Two and Half Men reruns, also broadcasts 25 Mets games a year. Not sure if this means the Mets getting dumped for the Yankees again, or if the two will be sharing a broadcast partner. Have the teams ever shared a broadcast partner? Have the Mets erred in failing to insist on an exclusivity clause in their contract? Does a return to WWOR beckon, if not now then later?

Down to 0-3 days! This could happen today!

1) I didn't dismiss the vocal minority. I said that they're wrong and that they don't seem to care about reason. They are and they don't. Nor has the team dismissed them. You put "haters gonna hate" in quotes, but I didn't write this. You seem to be confusing me with Taylor Swift (not the first time this has happened). 2) The Mets' press office didn't put out a "Meme me" tweet. They issued a press release. This is their job. The only alternative for them and for all of Mets management is to cease to exist. To cease to exist because of hostile and irrational nonsense. What a terrible way to live. This why I find this analogy to be specious. How's your head?

If we don't have the moral courage to attack the Mets for issuing a press release about the scoreboard, we support serial rape.

The problem with Geetrading is that the signing of Scherzer was supposed to tighten up the pitching market as teams rush after next-best options. But by Scherzer signing with an already pitching-rich team, it ends up likely sending somebody (possibly Jordan Zimmerman) into the trade market to compete with Gee.

I don't wonder that.

Whoah! It's chubby David Bowie.

Successful New York dentist, frustrated by lack of personal life apart from work and family, runs into his old college roommate, severely traumatized years after losing his family in the 2001 terrorism attacks. They begin tooling around town together. Your dentist is Don Cheadle, whose presence is funny in retrospect, as the film has a lot of parallels with the award-winning turn taken two years later in The Soloist by his Marvel Universe superior Robert Downey. The film is also flecked with several Marvel references, though Cheadle hadn't yet debuted as Col. Rhodes. Adam Sandler, who seems to have played a lot of mentally ill/emotionally ill guys, is your lost roommate. Lots o' classic rock references and classic rock music (mostly Springsteen and [you might well guess] The Who) happening in the soundtrack.
