Here's some shenanigans at Wright's annual Vegas Night fundraiser. I see Cuddy, Niese, Laggy (I think), Wright, possibly Wilmer, d'Arnaud with some offseason fuzz developments, and... and... holy crap, Bobby Parnell, what have you done?

That's key. Talented players, used to winning.

Mr. Cub, dead today at 83. Let's pray two.

New manager of your St. Lucie Mets is Luis Rojas, who has skippered Savannah for three years, posting an impressive .554 winning percentage there, with one title, going 231-179 overall in regular season ball, and 81-51 (.614) in 2014. New manager for the Savannah Sand Gnats is Jose Leger, who has managed the Kingsport Mets for the last three years, coming home with a less impressive 97-104 (.483) record, his best year being 2013, when the K-Mets went 40-27 (.597), behind the batsmanship Jon Leroux, Victor Cruzado, and Jeff McNeil (the sort of fringy prospects that go to Kingsport instead of Brooklyn), and the arms of Robert Whalen, Chris Flexen, and Ricky Jacquez.

Strikes me as a little bit of self-coverage, as well as self-reference. They had Smith at the top of the list last year, so they can't knock him off completely despite his punchless 2014. They have to remain at least a little bullish, lest they undermine their own credibility. Sort of like a fashion magazine. While they may be pushing a nu look this month, they can't outright call what they were pushing last month ugly.

Dominic Smith (first last year) is listed fourth among first basemen. Do you think Dilson has graduated or can we hope for him to represent our second basemen and keep the winning streak alive? 'Cuz I dinna think L.J. Mazzilli is going to make it.

Maybe so, but whatever Jeff Wilpon is, Alderson hardly seems stupid enough to waste his energy on shadow games that clearly aren't going to work. I probably got this wrong, but I got the notion that the Desmond offer was initiated by the other teams, anyhow.

I expect to be doing a lot of dribbling at 82, myself.

If it's a dog-and-pony show calculated to demonstrated false good faith to display for their fans to return with good will, it's a poorly conceived and profound failure, as everything I'm reading suggests that fans are inferring bad faith and returning it with ill will.

Bump it to Vic Black, I think. Washington is short a reliever, and the Mets have Parnell coming back and presumably edging Vic down in the pecking order. Maybe Zach Thornton and Chase Bradford look to be putting some pressure in there from below, so Black might get squeezed out anyhow.

I don't think he sold it. I think the IRS seized it and auctioned it off.

Here's a rosy picture which lets some of the air out of the Scherzer tires (to mix a metaphor). Nationals Pitching Will Get Worse in 2015 Even With Scherzer

Speaks more to "Strawberry's Financial Picture," I think.

Not if you look at Angel Cuan, they're not.

That scenario has got a robust cynicism factor of its own.

This is sorta 1990 all over. They had six starters then, and Cashen spent all offseason trying to move one, but couldn't find his price. They went through spring not knowing every day if someone would be dealt off, while Johnson delayed a decision about who would be demoted to the bullpen. Unfortunately sticking with his never-rewarded faith in Aguilera, he decided to open the season with Darling in the pen, promising that he would get starts as the season progressed, and Ojeda spent some time in the pen. You might'v figured that someone would get injured and it would sort itself out. But nobody did, and Ojeda and Darling alternated a month in and and a month out of the rotation. Both were miserable, unable to find a groove, and feeling their careers slipping away a little earlier than they may have expected. Both had their worst seasons as Mets, with Ojeda openly admitting to drinking hard and driving his bike all night (hopefully not at the same time). I have no problem if they keep Gee and use him as the alternative starter. Redundancy is great, but they're not exactly flying blind without him, having the number 10 prospect in all of baseball waiting in the wings with 26 AAA starts already under his belt, and Montero and possibly Gorski or Mazzoni before you get to him. There's even talk about opening the season with Montero in the MLB bullpen, ready to step in and start as needed. They may trade Gee and they made trade Gee for future, rather than present, assets (and therefore cheaper ones), but they clearly want to move a pitcher because a number-six pitcher who could be number-three on another team is a luxury that's worth more to that other team than to the Mets.

And Matz the #8 left-handed pitching prospect. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2015/#list=lhp

Joel Sherman's cred is on the line! Well, half on the line. Shields is still hovering out there and Joelmon said Shields' availability was what was holding up any Geetrading.

Biz is from NJ and lived on Long Island for a bit (which I know because I ran into him at the Sunrise Multiplex). We should not be loaning out our own to Oakland.

Almost forgot all about Ryan Reid. I'd left him off the list of minor league free agents, even after declaring him one. And indeed he was. Was, but no longer. I guess it's a speaks to the relatively stabile staff the 2014 team had that he was never called on. I may be misremembering, but I think the hammer didn't really come down on him until after he bought in not that he wasn't under a cloud. The larger issue is that hedge fund managers or big-name big-shots who can borrow money from them are starting to look like the only domestic richies who can buy a team, or at least a big chunk of one. What (if anything) this says about our culture, our economy, or baseball, I dunno.

MLB.com has Noah Syndegaard as the #2 right-hand pitching prospect... in all of beisbol.

Well, espesh since he's not expected to be ready for opening day. In truth, it's not like Mejia pitched so well as to put the question to rest. If he's out-pitched by Parnell or Familyguy, he's out-pitched.
