This is the pile-on scandal of the day in the Metsophere. Suddenly everybody forgot Ian Desmond. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE, MISERABLE MET FANS!

I like to think they're settling for each other.

Yeah, I'm not calling him mediocre or average, but I certainly have issues with saying that him winning the Silver Sluggo means he's some kind of definitive game-changer. They picked him out of crowded field of five different guys who could have won, probably getting the edge from (a) being the defending champ, and ( having the power numbers that are particularly unusual for a shortstop, but I have no problem saying Peralta (for instance) was easily the better the asset this past season. So was Tulowitzki, as little as he played. Hanley, too.

I didn't mean to suggest I didn't understand.

Gee and Tejada settle.

I'd be jumping in, too. My prejudices for the Mets aside, ball teams are great investments. Even when the teams aren't making money, the appreciation is enormous. And clearly, Bill Maher does nothing mutely. One more reason is that being a minority partner is the first step on the road to being the managing partner. Worked out that way for Fred Wilpon, certainly.

I'm feeling the love.

Buying a minority chunk of the Mets of course. And taking Jeff W. shirt shopping.

As noted in the shortstop thread, MLB loan to the Mets was closed out with the cash brought in from selling off minority shares.

The Mets closed the MLB loan with the cash influx they got from the minority shares back in 2012.

I don't think I was dishonest.

Dodgers prospect Chris O'Brien, carrying on the family catching tradition, if not the family perm-and-set tradition. Me, I'm still looking for that Lou Niss memoir.

Well, we certainly know Gee is on the market, and he may well be exchanged for minor league talent/salary relief. There's been little such buzz about Murphy, however. I tend to think that if the team could swap Muh or Flores for an equal-value shortstop, they would, but that deal has yet to be found. They probably won't be the first team to field three third basemen in their infield. I mainly hope they hit like three third basemen. Three good third basemen. I guess it's defensively better than the recent and lamentable days of four first basemen.

That'll have to be an estate sale, because I don't shed my Mets lit.

That's going to hold an honored place in my Library of Mets Books I Picked Up on the Cheap and Mean to Actually Read Someday.

Five-eight more days of Geeness. Use it wisely!

I thinky people don't find Flores so unthinkable at second. But of course, so much of the clamoring is really about using "shortstop" to beat up on the team for not being "serious." That article there demands the Mets pay $150 million to Ian Desmond or have the commissioner seize the team. It's stupid. If the team has $150 million to drop, I can think of a lot of other places I would have it spent without thinking too hard.

Mets should go all-in for Nats' Desmond & other moves that need to happen soon ... The Mets, ahem, then would be obligated to go all-out to sign Desmond, which is what every other high-revenue team in their position would do. Go all-in to go all-out!

Lots of strapping young men invited to camp, including a meaningful quorum of higher level infielders. Notably absent are high-profile, lower-level guys like Smith, Conforto, Rosario, and Molina, as well as German organizational catcher Kai Gronauer, who was invited last year, but now rots in minor-league free-agent Hell. Wondering out loud if LJ Mazzilli had an invite ripped up over the Christmas holiday. You'll notice, if you look closely at the shuffle, the passing of the Brian Burgamy era. If you have a specific BB memory, you are hardcore. The thingus about the Braves, or what seems to be the thingus, is that (again, it seems, for I have not checked the numbers) they've been filling their outfield for years with big names but have gotten Metlike productivity. It's been something like the difference between them being good and very good. They may be thinking that they might as well tone down the arms race and build an outfield instead of buying one. But yeah, I'm surprised at how much they are in a hurry to unmake Frank Wren's strategy. Instead of zagging off of what he was doing, they're pulling a 180. Very un-Bravelike to blow things up like that.

That's written like it's coming from an English guy. He lost me at the subtitle: "Wilmer Flores, a player who barely made a dent in Triple A, will be the Mets starting shortstop. It says everything about the teams ambition." It's easy enough to check that one out, and... no.

Please get the chip off your shoulder and stop with the name-calling. Please, please, to St. Lucie and back, please. I will give you such a big hug. In public. Maybe even a manly European smack on the cheek, too. Speaking for mice elf, I didn't post it because it didn't say anything I believe to be supportable. There's a world full of literature I don't post here. That certainly doesn't make me or anybody else headless chickens.

I'm just not sure why somebody needed to post it. Are you saying that it says what your feelings are toward the non-Desmond deal?

Happy G-Day Minus 6-9.
