  1. Mets facing a Brave lineup with two ex-Mets out there. Still waiting for our first Dudappearance. The Brave Young, Jr., cfGosselin, ssPeterson, 2bJohnson, 1bCunningham, rfRuiz, 3bBuck, cPerez, lfKennelly, dh Banuelos, sp=#0080FF]The Metropolitan Granderson, dhFlores, ssWright, 3bNieuwenhuis, rfMayberry, lfdArnaud, cCampbell, 1bden Dekker, cfTejada, 2b Niese, sp Tejada dropped to ninth after killing it in the five-hole.
  2. Big day for Ricey today. Looks like Edge is going the rest-and-rehab route and will open the season the DL, while remaining a strong candidate for surgery. "I think that's extraordinarily unlikely,'' Sandy Alderson said Thursday after the Mets hung on for an 11-9 win over the Nationals. "Highly improbable. But one never says never because you never know what's going to happen.'' David Lennon has Sandy poo-pooing the Matz-in-the-pen maneuver. "I think that's extraordinarily unlikely,'' Sandy Alderson said Thursday after the Mets hung on for an 11-9 win over the Nationals. "Highly improbable. But one never says never because you never know what's going to happen.'' So I'll take that as "Not unless/until we've cycled through the alternatives and find ourselves burned and charred, and we haven't yet needed him in the rotation."
  3. I look at his form and I don't see how he ever fooled anybody. I think he'll probably get another go, but only as a passing ship in the stormy night of leftlessness. Four innings, eight ERA.
  4. A skinny journeyman lefty gets a shot after years of toil and soil and wrapping his lunch in foil. I'm Scott Rice and that was me in 2013. And I took that chance and became an everyday lefty. Well that took it's toll, and I ended up hurted. Spent the year rehabbing and now I'm back. Back on a minor league deal, anyhow. And so the journey begins anew. Where will it take me in 2015?
  5. Still eligible to be used as an analogy.
  6. That guy is COOL! You just know he captures bad guys by doing flying tackles into a row of garbage cans. 8. That's a bad season for Mr. Man!
  9. I'm Matt Reynolds. NOW my name has come around alphabetically. I'm a non-roster invitee raking to the tune of .471 / .500 / .647 // 1.147 in my first 18 plate appearances this spring. I like that tune and I'm hoping it lends itself well to an extended re-mix.
  10. With Rocket, Rice, and now Alvarez coming off of stinky outings, the optimistic point of view has Edgin's elbow rallying and Gilmartin adjusting to bullpen life (not to mention jumping from AA). Has to be at least some thought directed at Matz at this point.
  11. Will the Braves be performing with the lower-case a's this year?
  12. A year and a week ago, Anthony DiComo was first (I think) in reporting that Bobby Parnell had a partially torn MCL, and they would make a determination on which way to proceed in the coming weeks. They determined to pitch through it, and then were forced to go another direction after opening day. Today, Anthony DiComo is first (I think) in reporting that Josh Edgin has a stretched MCL, and they will make a determination on which way to proceed in the coming weeks.
  13. You know what makes me so damn handsome? It's that I don't even know how handsome I am. I'm Anthony Recker, and I backup catch. Here's me in action. Some guys have to go down on their knees to stop a ball in the dirt. But guys like me, the ball just stops on it's own. It stops and says, "My God... you are easy on the eyes!" That's what I bring to the table. That and the strength of three normal men. Is it enough? You tell me. I'm Anthony Recker.
  14. I'm continually surprised to find out which journals you guys read in your leisure time.
  15. I'm Cesar Puello and nobody, but nobody, hits Eastern League pitching while juiced to the eyeballs as I do. Is that the last chapter in my story? Well, I hope not, and you should hope not too. I WAS JUST A KID!!! OK, I was a kid so loaded with illegal pharmaceuticals that my head seemed photoshopped onto my massive WWF torso, but you don't know what it's like to be me! The pressure I'm under! My old man won't accept anything but the best! Anyhow, there are indeed still chapters to be written. I'm writing one of them right now. I was added to the roster the same day as Juan Lagares back when and he's entering his third season as the Mets center fielder and I'm trying to keep a starting job in Las Vegas, but still I keep writing, hitting .313 / .389 / .313 // .701 in St. Lucie. What do you see in my immediate future?
  16. Lead coughed up by Scott Rice. Four earns in 2/3 of an inning. Gilmartin and Alvarez atop the lefty r'liever list.
  17. I think he has a real chance — has made for himself a real chance — to re-assert himself as a regular or a semi-regular here. He's hitting everything in spring training. He was a late-game threat last year, he's got the power and he's got the speed and he's got the attitude. I think a slump or an injury will make him into a starter, or at least a starter two days in three, and he's going to bite down hard on that role: .272 / .344 / .461 // .805, which will look good by 2015 standards. 16 homers, 66 RBI, 14 steals. He'll be hitting so consistently one hot July afternoon that someone on Atlanta will attempt an egregious drilling. (Do they even face Atlanta in July? Because in my mind, it's Atlanta.)
  18. Raises my lust value, that is certain.
  19. Sindy went 2 2/3 innings, giving one hit, and striking out FIVE. Sweet. Leathersnitch on now. Looking for redemption.
  20. I agree that Gee is going to be good insurance. But against Edgin, least of all.
  21. Ruben Shmehada (2-2, 2 doubles) comes around with the go-ahead run. Firescreen on to pitch for the Mets. One perfect inning so far, with two strikeouts.
  22. Tie game. Very human Harvey today. Yields to Chasen Bradford. That Merle "The Pearl" Stockwell he was always chasin' Bradford.
  23. With the Mets' talent surpluses appearing to be on the pitching side of the ball, if they're going to do a consolidation trade featuring a top hitting prospect, they had better be getting Ty Cobb back. And a nice Ty Cobb too. One who goes to fundraisers and has racially progressive values.
  24. That's the business, right there. Treat Ruben like the middle-of-the-order hitter he was born to be, and he'll hit like a middle-of-the-order hitter. Four hits and a run off of Har through two.
  25. Check out Rubenstein, batting fifth and playing third. That's the way you do it, Terry. Metskills Reynolds, ssMurphy, 2bdArnaud, cNieuwenhuis, cfTejada, 3bden Dekker, rfConforto, lfAllen, 1bHerrera, dh Harvey, sp=#FFBF00]Fishmongers Gordon, 2bYellich, lfStanton, rfMorse, 1bPrado, 3bSuzuki, cfSaltalamacchia, cDietrich, dhBrignac, ss Alvarez, sp
