  1. den Dekker single and a Granderson double put the Mets up 1-0. The Mets and Cards are tied in the Spring Training standings, so you know these two teams are going to leave it all on the field.
  2. Scoreless through two. It's been the Curtis Granderson Show so far, as he has the team's lone hit, got caught stealing and made an error in the field.
  3. In there because Murphy is grabbing at his hammy.
  4. The Redbirds come back for one more after getting embarrassed by half a Met team (the weaker half, I think) yesterday. The Cards have a lot of guys named "Matt" these days. But it's a rare lineup we see without aMolina in it. Also interesting the way Terry set the first four. 5. Agreed. It was that it was a white coat over green.
  6. Kyle Johnson. Utility outfielder. Hit .259 / .344 / .384 // .728 for Bingo last year. Stole 44 bases in 2013, but only 12 last year. Led the organization in outfield assists last season with 14. "I'd always had an OK arm," Johnson said. "The throwing program with the Mets ... it's different than any other throwing program I'd done. "What they like you do is when you're playing catch before the game, when you get to long toss, they don't like you just to throw the ball as high as you can, as far as you can. Once you get out past 120 feet, they want everything to be level with your head, and they want you to bounce it, so everything's a one-hop to your catch partner. "I think that really helped with my accuracy and arm strength, because I wasn't just trying to throw the ball as far as I could." He was the booty they got from the Angels in the Colin Cowgill deal.
  7. So, that expands the roster of Mets turned rappers to Strawberry, Reyes, Valdy and the "Get Metsmerized" crew of George Foster, Darryl Strawberry (again), Dwight Gooden, Lenny Dykstra, Rafael Santana, Rick Aguilera, Kevin Mitchell, Tim Tuefel, and Howard Johnson.
  8. I was thinking Metfairy was bidding.
  9. Highlights of the Cards game: Niese: 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 6 SO. Alvarez: 1.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 SO. Rice got his only batter, lefty Matt Adams, on a grounder to first. Bradford, who's having a decent spring and suddenly is a candidate, pitched a scoreless ninth. Wright: 2-3 Flores: 1-3 with a homer andwedosohaveshortstop! Five walks! Debuts by floaters Dustin Lawley, Jace Boyd, and Travis Tejeiron. Double in two trips for Dustin. Single in two trips for Travis. No knocks for Jacey, but a run scored. Also floated somebody named Kyle Johnson. Mean anything to anybody? Castellanos: 1-2, with a triple. The power is there but he's still carrying a sub-.200 batting average.
  10. Homers by Cuddyer and Grandy, 3.2 innings of one-run ball by Montero. Gilmartin matched the 'Sich, also striking out the lone batter he faced, left-hander Nolan Fontana.
  11. Holy smokes. Double happiness looming. A 3-1 win over Houston, and a 7-2 lead over St. Louis in the ninth. Gee gave up no runs over 3.2 innings. Two hits, two walks, no strikeouts. Leathersich bailed him out of his last inning, striking out the only batter he faced, getting switch hitter Jonathan Villar with a runner on.
  12. Interesting that the book alleges that Terry was on the hot seat over a lack of walks, but the Mets have hung on to Daniel Murphy — who reportedly openly resists the base-on-balls discipleship — throughout the Alderson era.
  13. This is exciting. I picture them all charging at one another for some sort of mechanical football-on-wheels game.

  15. Pond scum leading 3-1 in both games.
  16. The funny thing about those ads is that most of them have no tag lines, or slash lines, or URLS or anything. They're just logos without a context.
  17. it's not just beans, it's rice! It's chick peas (which are sort of beans)! It's ceviche! Coconut milk! Pickled stuff! And more beans!

  19. Two games for the split Mets squaddies today, and fortunately neither against the Fish, Nats, or Braves. Gee and Niese carry the standard for the Mets. The Tigers seem to have fallen off their regular spring dance card. Are they fighting, or has Detroit switched camp locations? Gee and Niese carry the standard for the Mets. A split squad this late in camp usually means some interesting floaters get added to the rosters. I'm looking for an Amed Rosario or Marcos Molina debut.
  20. There's something about those big round western nouveau serifs on the initial caps that I can't put my finger on.
  21. So, which seventies band is this logo aping? [fimg=500:2i59gnlg]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/screen-shot-2015-03-19-at-10-48-58-am.png[/fimg:2i59gnlg]
  22. I saw Goosen play many moons ago and it seems he was a highly thought of prospect. Well Casey supposedly said of Goossen's prospect status that: 'he's only 20 years old and in ten years he had a good chance to be 30' I remember the numbers in the quote being 19 and 29. But, he was right. But why is everyone so concerned about the color of the walls (in this and other threads) in those photos? I'm asking that as a serious question. Don't the colors of the walls in old photos depend on how the pictures (film in those days) were processed and under what temperature and humidity conditions the pictures have since been stored? Later Because apparently for one homestand and one homestand only, at the start of 1967, the Shea outfield walls were a color they never were before or since. And that brief time included Tom Seaver's debut. I long ago argued that the walls were white at the top of 1962. When some didn't believe, I offered photo evidence (largely presented in a thread that this one references in title, called "Only the Walls Were White"). Some responded to that evidence with the notion that these photos did not depict a wall that was really white. To which I say, well, I think they're meant to be white, and are certainly whitish. And that's where we are. It had come up before, I think in a thread called "The Color of the Outfield Walls," but I don't think there was any controversy over the issue then. Come out to big Shea and thrill to our new toothpaste walls.
  23. Yeah, no, like I said before, the account just doesn't add up. It may have happened, but it's hard to accept that it quite happened as described. And in fairness, I'm the one who dragged Casey's name into it. The article doesn't mention who the "Mets manager" who stonewalled him was. Also worth noting: it was about five decades ago, and Pride has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I share this article not as a definitive chunk of history, but as a curious chapter lacking in clear facts, that maybe we can bring some further facts to. But mercy, I don't know how much of it is meant in the recount, or how much of it was originally meant (if this quote has any veracity at all), but there's some serious malice one can infer from "they would have to take Pride out to a pasture."
  24. It's been discussed before, but they weren't the next-to-last team to integrate. The Tigers were.
  25. Man, the NRIs are sure outlasting the rostered players this year. The dream of being the next Joe Christopher will have to wait.
