  1. I don't see Nieuwenhuis as getting any innings at first base. He's got all of zero innings there in the majors and two innings in the minors. I mean, yeah, if Duda, Cuddyer, Campbell, Murphy, Mayberry, Flores, and maybe Recker all become simultaneously unavailable. d'Arnaud and Plawecki have both seen more time there.
  2. Kong is doing a good job getting his forecasts in place in these threads.
  3. I'd be thrilled to the gills with 12-15 punches out of Mayberry.
  4. Darling did some play-by-play his first year with Washington. He wasn't no good, but he wasn't any better at analysis. I don't think the Mets are about to lose Darling. He could certainly get a national job, but still do the Met the rest of the week, like Lindsay Nelson and Tim McCarver did.
  5. It hasn't really been him either (yesterday afternoon excepting). I mean, Tejada had a better home run rate last year, and he didn't have Vegas and the rest of the PCL to help him. If we want a slugging shortie, Flores remains our go-to hope. Not to detract from yesterday's shot, which was slugged indeed. Hey, was Reynolds one of the Barwis Boyz?
  6. It'll be interesting certainly to see if he opens at Vegas or Bingo. I guess whether or not Castellanos is injured kind of speaks to that. If the MLB outfield is Cuddyer Lageres Granderson Mayberry Nieuwenhuis then the AAA outfield is Puello den Dekker Castellanos Lawley Vaughn I could easily see him sneaking into those back five out of camp even if Castellanos is healthy.
  7. Once upon a time, when leading publications were thrilled about guys with on-base tools, Pat the Bat Burrell and Nick the Stick Johnson were everybody's favorite prospects. O, they broke into Burrell and Johnson camps. But those were the dudes to pick from. Well, nobody's got an on-base tool like I do, but still I'm viewed as somewhat suspect. Seen as having perhaps TOO much patience. As if. [fimg=500:jccx6hpn]https://prospects2pros.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/usp-mlb_-all-star-futures-game_003-1024x654.jpg[/fimg:jccx6hpn] Give me half a chance, and I think I'll make baseballs sorry they were ever pitched. What do you think my 2015 will look like?
  8. That a strangely hostile description. Care to explain?
  9. That's her. How weak that they had to mime the song. Most acts I remember performed live in Mike Douglas.
  10. When I was a senior in high school, my friends and I scripted a film about the Lemon Pipers. We began pre-production during that glorious first summer but never got to shooting. We clearly needed your help with costuming.
  11. Yeah, the fielding and base running looked very March 6. But Keith wasn't ripping them for it, so if he's willing to write it off to winter rust, I'll accept that. But Darling was very insistent about Jeurys having a mental block with throwing to the bases. So that may be something to watch out for. Elsewise, I'm feeling very ReHarveyed. Kinda funny to see folks around the beginnings of internet buzz for Reynolds as opening day starting shortstop. 12. I saw this the night after watching Arrowhead (1953), and I went from "Boy this is sure is one surprisingly racist movie" to "Boy this sure is one surpassingly misogynist movie."
  13. Guess who's batting .717 in spring training? It's your leading candidate for fifth outfielder/lefthanded pinch hitter. Yeah, a lot of teams go for aging but unflappable slappers like Lenny Harris or meaty sluggerinos like Kila Ka'aihue, but I got more youthful athleticism than those types, I can play every day if forced, and I'm out of options, so sorry, den Dekker, I'm ahead of you in line. [fimg=550:r3ydkqz5]http://mets360.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Kirk-Nieuwenhuis.jpg[/fimg:r3ydkqz5] Yeah, maybe I'm not the first guy you think of as a lefty bat off the bench, but sometimes you don't go out and search for a vet pinch-hitter. Sometimes you make one. See Franco, Matt. I had some big hits last year. Waddaya think I've got to offer this year?
  14. It's March 6th, and these minor league free agents are still without employment. I'm going to let them drift on out of this thread, even if J-Hef doesn't yet qualify for his "Memories of..." thread. For now, wave farewell, at least from the perspective of this thread. He may have been working at the bottom of the barrel, but that's not so bad for a guy's first year pitching.
  15. Shmatt Reynolds: walkoff homer.
  16. Campy with a chance to tack some on.
  17. Bases jammed for Recker with no out in the seventh.
  18. [youtube:1465xbrz]M7tHvgzv8Yk[/youtube:1465xbrz]
  19. Hey, a Scott Rice sighting!
  20. I had Gorgeous catching in my lineup too (I guess I got it from Gameday.) But it was d'Arnaud Here are some words that strike terror in few Tejada to Flores to Soup A trio of Mets that just failed to turn two Tejada to Flores to Soup Ruben's delivery was up by the eye The transfer was spiked then as Wilmer let fly Did Campbell catch it? I can't help but sigh Tejada to Flores to Soup Meanwhile the Tiggs just turned their second-screw-everything-up-but-still-succeed double play in as many innings. This Duran guy is an asset against lefties. Hides the ball in his back pocket until his delivery.
  21. Two hits and a walk and no runs. Tough inning.
  22. Familia still flaking on throwing to the bases. d'Arnaud still letting the high sailer get away from him. Shot on the bench of Bobby Parnell sucking on the end of his beard. Familia not having trouble with his pickoff move, though.
  23. Harvey on the remote headset now. Still a horrible interview subject.
  24. These Fruit Loops commercials with Toucan Sam as a space bird are freaky.
  25. Synder in. Dilson taking over at second following a Murphy HbP.
