Liking the Dodgers logo against the tan background.

Buddy won't have to be exposed to waivers, as he is on a minor league deal. He may have a clause to demand his release if he's not called up by X date, though.

Amed Rosario got a pinch-hit and came around to score and his batting average sits at a sweet 1.000.

Daniel Murphy: Now motivated and determined? Or embittered and encumbered?

Yeah. They signed Niese to an extension at the beginning of the 2012 season, and Wright to one after it. We are swimming in Niese through 2016 with options for 2017 and 2018.

That's true. The super 2 concern is first but hardly foremost, especially when it comes to hitters.

Matt den Dekker forces the issue for Washington, as Tony Gwynn, Jr. joins Kevin Frandsen on the cut list. Gwynnie sent to the minors, and Frandsen released.

The thing is that exact day is something akin to guesswork.

How about this? We've gone from "What outfield?" to multi-year contracts at all three positions. A lot of fleeting ghosts have haunted our opening day outfields in recent years: 2014: Andrew Brown, lf, making one of only 39 starts as a Met. 2013: Collin Cowgill, cf, making one of only 12 starts as a Met. 2012: Andres Torres, cf, making one of only 125 starts as a Met. 2011: Willie Harris, lf, making one of only 65 starts as a Met. 2010: Gary Matthews, Jr., cf, making one of only 20 starts across two tenures as a Met. 2009: Daniel Murphy, lf, making one of only 57 starts as a Met outfielder.

Colon getting his final tuneup before opening day. Bartolo is backed by a lineup that stands a pretty good chance of being the one they'll roll out behind him in Washington. MLB.tv has all the action. Jay, lfWong, 2bPeralta, ssAdams, 1bReynolds, 3bPiscotty, rfT. Poor Kazzy.

It had to happen.

On the concourse? Not in my experience. I've only been to two parks in recent years, but in my experience, the umbrella drinks are reserved for the clubs or the swells in exclusive sitting.

And Harangatang is the #2 starter. Phillies have also announced they will be selling wine and cocktails on the concourse this season.

Yup. Last laugh to Gil as it's game over at Space Coast Stadium. Mets get the shutout from Niese (six innings), Blevins (1/3 of an inning with a strikeout), Thornton (2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO), and Gilmartin (2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 SO).

That traitor den Dekker just singled off of Gilmartin.

I also thought his name was Jeremy. Thing is that there was a Jeremy Blevins, a Yankee relief prospect who peaked at Columbus back in the Bobby Valentine era.

Mets lead 2-0 in the eighth. Niese pitched six scoreless innings, yielding four hits and no walks, striking out three. Blevins debuted by fanning Brycecakes Harper. Mayberry is batting third and has gone 3-4 with a homer. d'Arnaud is 2-3. Tejada picked up a two-out RBI.

Yeah, I guess that didn't float to the top because it was minor leaguer-for-minor leaguer, with neither ultimately ever playing for the Mets, so the UMDB didn't record it.

Tough times for Dario. Bad news two days straight. Remaining Competitions Fifth Starter: Gee vs. Montero Seventh Bullpenner: The loser of the above vs. Gilmartin vs. Goeddel vs. Thornton Second Catcher: Recker vs. Monell Sixth Infielder: Campbell vs. Muno vs. Reynolds (there could be two winners here if Murphy can't answer the bell) There really isn't any reason to believe there's a competition between Nieuwenhuis an Puello for the fifth outfielder spot, but Puello still remains, in part, I guess, in case anybody gets hurt. So I guess it's worth noting that each of yesterday's deals represents a slight uptick in salary. Mazzoni to Torres is a small amount: a non-roster pre-rookie eligible to make a possible MLB minimum of $507,500 if he makes the roster, compared to $522,900 for Torres. Matt den Dekker to Jerry Blevins is more, though, as it takes us from about $600,000 to $2,595,000. At least, that is unless/until Gee gets dealt off, which could certainly still happen. That is, assuming he gets dealt off for minor league talent.
