I like the effort, but that logo speaks to me not of a team called the Las Vegas Aces, so much as of a team called Las Vegas Spades. Agreed that the Uni-Watch contests are great, and shows what is lost when very few firms are doing all the thinking.

Revisiting the legend of Joe C. Sort of a Mark Fidrych lite with regards to ephemeral new wave-era flakey white stars. [fimg=550]http://imgick.cleveland.com/home/cleve-media/width620/img/ent_impact_home/photo/001-joejpg-eeb75cf7f7eb2384.jpg[/fimg]

You know famed comedian and radio host Kenny Zimlinghaus? Sure, everybody does. Everybody whose not me, I guess. Anywitz, if that qualifies Kenny as a BS, then Kenny's an MLBS. Kenny, if you could hang out with any New York Met player dead or alive, who would it be? There are so many. But if I could hang out with any of my Mets idols somebody I think it would be a good idea to pick somebody that didn't get busted for cocaine back in the day, like Darryl Strawberry or Doc Gooden. I love those guys. But I'd rather just sit down and have a beer with (deceased Hall of Fame catcher) Gary Carter. Hudgens philosophy is to (1) recognize your pitch, (2) get the pitch you want, (3) destroy that pitch when it comes, and (4) take your base if it doesn't.

Puello got his waivers reversed when he demonstrated that he was injured before being waived. He's now residing on the MLB 15-Day DL.

For everyone thinking that Familia was a better choice to finish games anyway, now they have a pretext for using him as such.

I've culled these together from reports and the team's websites. I think they're pretty close to final. I want to hug Backman (or somebody) if they're really thinking of opening with an 11-man staff in Las Vegas. Looks like Vegas (featuring many members of the Eastern league champ 2014 Binghamton Mets) is the team to watch if you want to see pitching prospects, but St. Lucie's pretty stacked with position-playing prospects, and a handful of pitchers-to-watch also. Mejia underwent X-ray and MRI tests Tuesday morning that showed no structural damage, but he was given a cortisone shot and will be shut down from game action for at least the next 10 days. Jeurys Familia figures to get the bulk of the save opportunities during his absence and should be picked up in all fantasy leagues. -- NBCSports Fantasy-league advice insinuating itself into sports journalism makes me sad.

The reports that the franchise is moving to Ottawa nonetheless keep popping up.

Yabbut keep in mind that many a fan was demanding they roll over and cough up Syndergaard (the reported asking price) for him. For one year of him. And, you know, he may well hit another 20 homers, but I feel good about feeling good today.

It's hard to accept that the team is hiding medical information, the doctors are supporting them in that decision, and Mejia and his representatives are either complicit or duped. Pitching is tough on elbows. A guy is OK to pitch until he isn't.

The Longest Day ends with Jacob deGrom locking up with Jordan Zimmermann. deGrom went 4-0 / 2.08 over the spring schedule, including giving up three runs in 10 innings against Washington. Zimmerman was a little rockier, going 2-1 / 3.80 over 23.2 innings, without pitching against the Mets. Most of the damage came in his last start, giving up eight runs (seven earned) in four innings against Miami, yielding homers to Mike Morse and Giancarlo Stanton.

Last pitched April 3, so since he never entered yesterday's game, I imagine any DL assignment can be backdated until then.

Life is indeed fraught with ambiguity, but it's certainly better news than the alternative.

From your friendly KTE: He's a drop-and-drive righty relying on the fastball and change, who is untouchable when he's got a feel, but can get in a funk with his mechanics, so watch and see if maybe he's opening up or having trouble staying warm

I arrived on the scene after he disappeared, so he's mostly legend to me. He did seemingly resurface briefly around 2001 as "You Know Me, Al," though. Googling that won't get me very far, though.

Ooh, vicious burns in two consecutive threads. You have to start somewhere.

Here's an angle: Do we have any idea which organizations he pitched with?

The Mets are undefeated despite hitting .147 / .216 / .206 // .422 on the season. Opening day frequently packs the offensive punch of the first game of the World Cup, but fully 14 teams are hitting under .200, led (in a sense) by the Rangers, who are thumping to the tune of .036 /.100 / .036 // .136 after getting one-hit out the box by the Athletics Featuring Sonny Gray. Not the way Jeff Banister wanted to start his managerial career, and I can't help but think the Mets cut the legs out from under Texas with those two games to end the exhibition season. You'll remember that Banister was home sick for the second one also.

Tim Hudson.

I tend to think that the Kevin Long plan isn't diverging too much from the Hudgens Undertaking, and the reason Murphy hasn't been extended is because of his unwillingness to get with the plan and be choosier. I additionally think that it's something of a simmering issue, and Murphy is determined to have a big walk year by saying "FU I'm doing it my way, and hacking away," setting the stage for spotty results and drama as the season wears on. I could certainly see him dealt off if younger infielders emerge. Or I've been watching too many soap operas. Bartolo may be one of the coolest cats in Mets history. You don't want to go so far as to say the Mets are vindicated because who knows what would have happened if Mr. Page SixTM was pitching but after the Muffy muff and again after the Harper homer, you could certainly imagine a less detached pitcher unraveling. Granderson staying with the program and working too well-labored walks was a hidden gift. When Granderson did hit, he did what he did so much last year hit it hard, but with too much topspin and right into the shift. It'll be curious to see if he can reach the porch this year. If pitchers were cards, and all other things were equal, the Mets would have the Nats really against a wall here. If the Mets think the Nats are holding an ace, a queen, and a 10, while the Mets are holding a king, a jack, and a nine, well, you play the nine first against their ace, and then you hold the high card in the next two games. All other things are certainly not equal, or they'd've never stolen the game, but there is a logic there. Stay with your relievers when they're getting their outs, Terry. Stay with them. Stay.
