Granderson now eighth out of 13 qualifying National League outfielders in OpS after yesterday's outburst. He's sixth in WAR and runs created, fifth in WPA Amazing is that Nick Markakis is rocking an extreme Curtis performance of his own sporting a shiny .383 OBP but slugging zero homers. It basically comes down to All-Stars/MVP candidates: Bryce Harper Fringey All-Star Candidates: Andre Ethier, Gregory Polanco, Giancarlo Stanton (who likely makes the AS team on name recognition anyhow) Useful Guys: Curtis Granderson, Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Braun, Jason Heyward, Matt Kemp, Nick Markakis Unproductive Guys: Jorge Soler, Ender Inciarte, Mark Trumbo, Jay Bruce

I think Mariano, Jr. is listed as a fourth-round talent, tops, so if they go for him at #54, they must have seen somebody other folks haven't. But yeah.

Black effectively goes from Las Vegas to Las Vegas, so his activation/demotion is essentially just a paper transaction, but worth noting perhaps as part of the grand story of the slow grind back to activity for wounded Mets personnel. Daz looks swell. My guess is that the Mets end up with another legacy son-of-a-former-number-one-overall Tyler Nevin. Tyler is a third baseman like his dad, and a right-handed hitter/thrower like his dad as well. He would continue the Alderson pattern of looking to high school hitting prospects in the early rounds, and if all goes well, he'll be coming along around the time David Wright's contract is expiring.

It took about 90 seconds to figure out what "P.CH." meant. I'm all for uniform coaches getting their own cards, but I reject this sorry abbreviation.

Look, we're a running team now!

Ollie gets the first batter of the inning. A good omen!

Saltalamacchia wears his helmet brim forward under his catchers mask. Jason Phillips is the only guy I remember doing that.

Doubling our June homer output. Or tripling, I'm not sure.

The double play grounder is the baseball version of the interception.

Walking the pitcher is the baseball version of missing the extra point.

The 2003 Mets almost fielded a lineup with a 00, an 11, a 33, and a 44. Tony Clark, however, ruined the fun by shedding his 00 two days before in deference to Mr. Met. (Mister is always in the lineup, though, isn't he?) And Art Howe ruined the fun by not starting 22 (Al Leiter) in addition to Mike Bacsik. And Jay Bell ruined the fun, because that's what he did in 2003.

So this is what offense looks like. Let's tape it.

I doubt that!

Josh Who? Satin? Never heard of him.

Dear me, Eric Campbell. You're making me miss Josh Satin.

Great, Granderson. Now, like, nine more of those.

During the National Anthem, one of the Diamondbacks, had a tremendously outsized hat over his chest. Like Charlie Brown-big. Like big enough to make lex Torres' soft helmet hat he used to wear look small.

Good for him for fighting for his rights.

Frayed Knot wrote: As we continue to ignore the question of why the batter wouldn't then just switch to the side he wants to hit from ... AND what would get the game moving again! Because the batter has to set last. And if the pitcher has his hips square to you, and it's unclear which hand he's going to slip out of the glove and grab the ball with, tough. If he's in the stretch, and one hip is pointed at you, then he's tipped his hand.

Could have used a second lefty pinch-hitter. Also could have perhaps gone with Flores and his love affair with the low pitch.

What a turdy ending.

A submarining sinker closer is not ideal with a super-fast infield.

You're being a no person.
