  1. That's dramatic. Until a week or two ago, I was thinking all the Mets focus had to be on infielders, perhaps trading a later figure like Herrera or Reynolds for a now guy like Zach Cozart or Jason Kipnis. Now Cozart is hurt, and I don't know where they should be looking for an upgrade. They're just so close to average all around the diamond or at least will be once Murphy comes back. Maybe a ton of assets can be moved for Todd Frazier. That guy's nuts this year.
  2. Also in the bag are 13th rounder Vinnie Siena (2b) and 14-rounder P.J. Conlon (LHP). Mets are signing up everybody for your 2015 Brooklyn Cyclones.
  3. Not the last.
  4. And it's a good precedent. The Cubs should have an alternative cap with fuzzy little ears. The Tigers, too. And the Braves should wear a feather.

Whose is missing? nobody, right? This was prior the Seattle-Toronto that made 26. Of course. For some reason, I was thinking S-T brought the number to 28. Of course, they brought it from 24 to 26.
  6. Is the GM-as-manager thing really supposed to last out the rest of the season?
  7. Jerry Koosman with the world on his shoulders. Seems to me that there are 23 hats, besides the Mets, and there should be 25. Whose is missing?
  8. The Marlins called up Jordany Valdespin, and then let him sit around for a few days without activating him, before sending him back. This is life for Jordany.
  9. The thing is, if your job is to pitch baseballs for a living, you're already jinxed.
  10. Alvarez appeared for the Mets last year. He's been counted.
  11. Couldn't have been much more of a disaster for Granderson 04, with three strikeouts, and ended the only early threat they had by whiffing with the bags juiced.
  12. Verrett 4.08 Duda 3.53 ATorres 2.39
  13. Hollywood screenwriter in a professional and personal slump takes a job as writer-in-residence at SUNY-Binghamton. Can he put aside his smug Hollywood ways and find the meaning and virtue in teaching? I dunno, but if you say, "Binghamton," I say "raucous comedy"! Marissa Tomei, Chris Elliott, and both Juno's father and stepmother co-star. 14. That fan didn't seem to have it all together. Duda, you can stay.
  15. You're about to get an escort, Tiger fan.
  16. This seems like it's a game our batters are not familiar with. Dickey baffling professional hitters was a lot more entertaining when he ran to our dugout at the end of the inning.

  18. I'm certainly familiar with the story.
  19. The idea to get Mike Piazza occurred to anybody remotely aware of baseball simultaneously the moment he was dumped to the Marlins. As ideas go, it was hardly Newton's Three Laws of Motion.
  20. Come on. I don't like it (#dickmove and all), but it happens all the time with every team.
  21. I really thing a year's worth of Mets should be a set unto itself, with each player getting exclusive rights to his number whether he shed it by April 3 or October 3. Things tie up nicely that way. You don't want to try figuring out years later who wore a number first. Dillon Gee was the 35 of 2015. Logan Verrett wore 32 that year. That's how it should be. It keeps the filing clean, if nothing else. Looking forward to reading what Breitbart News has to say about this.
  22. Kevin Kierst and the Mets outfitting Logan Verrett in #35. #DickMove #SorryDillon
  23. R.A. Dickey. There's a guy with a body part for a last name.
