It may have really put the Mets in a spot (though it might have merely turned a first-and-second situation into a first-and-third one), but there's something about athletes, when you're backing an unworldly effort like Syndergaard's, you start thinking you can do great things too. And sometimes you can!

10 walks, 39 strikeouts.

Mets have re-signed Omir Santos and hope to have him activated in time for Thursday's Nats opener.

Well, perhaps we've learned why the Mets went right up to game time without announcing their transactions. Mejia's folly keeps lex Torres' career alive and safe for the time being. Perhaps it's a blessing. Four experienced closers on the team doesn't always mean four closers, but rather four guys the manager is only willing to use for one inning or so. What to make of the team gobbling up minor league free agents the last few weeks, I could only offer baseless speculation. "bell-NO-may." Belnome is somewhere between Eric Campbell and Allan Dykstra a 1b/2b/3b who gravitates toward DH and gives you a lofty OBP over wallbanging power. The power is there but frequently sacrificed for the walks. Murphy, you Hoover, you.

Earning a second suspension a few weeks after the first one is up is unseemly, to say the least. Keith advocating for a lifetime ban is a little unseemly too.

This game is ... really something so far.

The big story, standings-wise, is San Francisco, who have rocketed past Chicago to take an unambiguous lead in the Wild Card and are right up the Dodgers' butts in the NL West. San Diego is also playing hot ball just at the time they are seemingly looking to be dealt out, so they may wait until later in this Mets series or even the last moment to consummate any deals they may have in place. Our last hot team in the division is quixotic Phillies, playing sweet ball seemingly as a glorious farewell to one another. Mets are suddenly looking at playoff likelihood of 49.2%. I'll take that. Not only am I not reading any news of who gets sent off in favor of Clippard, I haven't actually seen any notes indicating Clippard being activated, so maybe he won't be available for tonight's game.
