  1. And as noted at the bottom of the previous page, the Dodgers ended up DFA-ing five different dudes (but not Carl Crawford) in the flurry. Heck, they just benched a guy (cf Joc Pederson) two weeks after he was in the All Star Game.
  2. The residue of the flurry of deals at the deadline is the flurry of DFAs that follows as teams make room for their shiny new things. Here's some of the guys that can be had at bargain-basement prices just in the last three days (exies in bold). 07/31/15 Baltimore Orioles designated RHP Bud Norris for assignment. New York Yankees designated RF Garrett Jones for assignment. Chicago Cubs designated RHP Ben Rowen for assignment. Pittsburgh Pirates designated RHP Deolis Guerra for assignment. Baltimore Orioles designated 1B Chris Parmelee for assignment. Minnesota Twins designated LHP Caleb Thielbar for assignment. St. Louis Cardinals designated RHP Marcus Hatley for assignment. 7/30/15 Houston Astros designated RHP Roberto Hernandez for assignment. St. Louis Cardinals designated 1B Dan Johnson for assignment. Pittsburgh Pirates designated RHP Vance Worley for assignment. Boston Red Sox designated RF Daniel Nava for assignment. Los Angeles Dodgers designated RHP Chin-hui Tsao for assignment. Los Angeles Dodgers designated LF Chris Heisey for assignment. Los Angeles Dodgers designated RHP Brandon Beachy for assignment. Los Angeles Dodgers designated 1B Michael Morse for assignment. 07/29/15 Atlanta Braves designated RHP David Carpenter for assignment. Chicago Cubs designated RF Mike Baxter for assignment. New York Yankees designated LHP Chris Capuano for assignment. Toronto Blue Jays designated LHP Felix Doubront for assignment. Texas Rangers designated LHP Wandy Rodriguez for assignment. Los Angeles Angels designated LF Efren Navarro for assignment. Boston Red Sox designated 2B Jemile Weeks for assignment.

I mean, ultimately Gomez will win that since he's a much better player (until the hip breaks), but I'd take the Mets route to the playoffs over the Astros right now. Tough division. I'm willing to bet 69 Cranebucks that Flores and Wheeler give their teams more fWAR/$ going forward through the end of their teams' current terms of control than Gomez gives his team.
  5. Cespedes brings some Josh Satin-like eyebrow drama with him.
  6. I think the other two options are Nobody and Unless Somebody Gets Hurt.
  7. So two players were rumored to be dealt. One openly wept in public at the thought of it, and the other personally called the GM to ask not to be included in any deals. Maybe it's not the worst organization to be a part of after all.
  8. Unfortunately for Gary, he pulled a Ralph and called him "Torres" as he hit the homer, ensuring that in perpetuity, that clip will be shown with Howie Rose's call substituted in.
  9. Terry Collins: "I'm looking at you guys, and you're all outstanding writers. But you can't write that."
  10. May he play for the Mets forever.
  11. If so, it deletes the Wilmer Game of two days ago. Andy Martino ?@MartinoNYDN 11m11 minutes ago Former Milwaukee Brewer Wilmer Flores with the walk off

But I get a mere eight months to find out? And I'm giving up Flores and Wheeler to find out? And take on all the financial risk? He's barely outplayed Flores on his own this season as it is. Could still heal? He's actually BEEN playing, and playing well, having posted a .258/.388/.470 line over the last month. And he appears to have outplayed Flores by quite a bit, Captain BigAssertion (1.8 fWAR vs. 1.0fWAR, 1.6 BWAR vs. 0.2 bWAR), even allowing for a lost first month-and-a-half and reduced baserunning adventuring. He's a VERY good player, even in an off-year. A rarer player than you seem to think, at a deal that's paying him less than Colon? He's likely worth Flores and Wheeler and then some. Suck on Wilmer's fWAR.

  14. Was in the bathroom, and completely missed that.
  15. Only one inning from Robles, and going to Torres before Parnell.
  16. Zimmerman in the outfield? Uggla at first? That's like two giant steps back defensively, isn't it?
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Fman99 wrote: That was some play by Robles! WOW. I thought we were about to see another inning set up by an incredibly cheapo single. A lot of junk offense by Washington tonight, to the extent that one run in 11 innings can be called offense.
  18. So, Harper isn't happy.
  19. Some quick innings on offense, Mets. Stop that!
  20. Baffled that Campbell has seen a single pitch after Gonzalez was chased. Baffled, Terry!
  21. The 2016 rotation lives another day..
  22. Man, the B-Mets have been gutted over and over this month.
  23. I just read a reliable source (@SomeGuyonTwitter) saying Cessa and Fulmer.
