David Phelps. Man, it's not like this team has bad players (although they certainly are a little short of good ones), they just don't seem to have any character. A bunch of veteran extras from other teams who just ended up in South Florida by virtue of gravity. At the start of the season, they seemed to have a pitching staff (with their best guy coming back) to rival the Mets and Nats, and they had Stanton and three or four young and impressive hitters, and a lot of people were backing them as the division's dark horse. Right now, they look like an expansion team.

lex Torres was weird in that his bottom line (a 3.15 ERA in 34 innings) wasn't as disastrous as the process by which he got there. He'd walk two guys and not be near the plate, and then fan the next guy on a slider at his shins. I would imagine any inherited runner numbers weren't so good, but checking those, he allowed 5 of 25 (20% to score), which strikes me as not so bad. I guess the summary is that he was serviceable, but looked like he could blow at any minute. I imagine he could clear waivers and be back in September. As far as Blevins, maybe this trade indicates he's far off, but as likely indicates that they don't know what he'll have upon his return. Anyhow, this is an option until then an option (lefty specialist) the team hasn't really had in a long time. Not since they sent down Chipotle Rocket at the end of June, anyhow.

You know, it's like ten trades* in a row now that they've added salary. *Guessing. They'll also have untold fortunes in the form of post-season revenue. But it's probably a problem for another day.

You figure Gelbs would be all over him. Meanwhile, four-run lead and I'm all anxiety-ish.

Great catch by the bro in right field. Lenny Harris jersey?

We might, Rabbit. We might.

That'll serve. I mean, it looked like a beer league play at the plate, but that'll serve.

Let's score, man.

How did the Mets go from one of history's worst-hitting pitching staves to the pitchers getting a hit a day the next season?

Not the way I see it, but sure.

Seems strange to let him go less than a week after allowing him to move three of your best players.

Officials with the new B-Mets owners and the city's government continue to deny, but all the pieces keep moving into place for a shift to Wilmington, and the denials have been sliding down the scale from no to not to my knowledge to well, somebody will be playing in our rustic old crater of a stadium next year.

Terry's sure got some out-of-the-hat lineups. It's like the bench is Campbell and Campbell alone. Everybody else is part of an obscure starting rotation.

It's a very corporeal matchup. [fimg=250:2rgu9iep]http://assets-s3.mensjournal.com/img/essential/the-way-to-build-a-better-knee/618_348_the-way-to-build-a-better-knee.jpg[/fimg:2rgu9iep] [fimg=212:2rgu9iep]http://poliklinika-arcadia.hr/en/images/stories/plastic/hand-v.jpg[/fimg:2rgu9iep]

Matt Williams' performance in the weekend series has him in everybody's crosshairs. It's unforgivable to go into a series this big and lose two one run games where the Mets scored the winning run in their final at bat without your top two relievers getting on the field at some point!

Weakest schedule left in MLB. Which can be deceiving, because the makeup of teams has changed, and the Phils have been wicked of late.

Dillon Gee, by the way: Two straight nine-inning complete games. Two runs in each and a healthy amount of base runners, but 99 pitches in one and 108 in the other. He might yet get another shot at the number-six starter gig.

Rest our rotation, and start Gee, Verrett, and Montero the last weekend and STILL sweep. <> <>

All-Time Minor League home run king. His last big league clout was with the Mets in 2010.

What have the Mets done to the Expos, that Montreal has been reduced to half a lineup?

"Richard, you promise me you're gonna look after Tommy here 'til he gets his feet wet."

Harper is on fire. Keep that mic on him. "We saw all three of their horses twice in the matter of two weeks. ... They haven't seen (Max) Scherzer since day one." Yeah, and they beat him on day one. And contrary to what you claim, they also beat him again on May 1. The guy is a trip. I get the idea he does nutty mad warrior stuff like putting eyeblack in his jock strap or cutting a scar in his arm for each outfield assist. He's the kind of guy you think is great to have on your team, because he's putting up MVP numbers and setting a high standard, and then he gets hurt and goes to Florida for rehab, and it's the first time all year you aren't miserable, first time you don't dread coming to the park.

Not only do the Mets seize sole possession of first place, but the Giants score one in the 12th, and then give up two in the bottom of the inning (error by Brandon Crawford, two-run walk off homer by Andonis Garcia), thus losing a hold on that second wild card spot to the Cubs, who have been delayed forever in their game with Pittsburgh this evening.

This is that day in high school tryouts where the manager tells Cespedes he's made the team.
